I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Hat fitz & Cara Robinson

Image
Hat Fitz is a "veteran" wild man of the blues scene in Australia. He has a record 18 straight appearances at Byron's East Coast Blues and Roots Festival, a record that is not likely to ever be broken, and one which bears testimony to his amazing live performances and popularity with festival goers. Hat Fitz has, over the last few years, increased his European touring dates from what was originally a two week "look about" in Ireland to a yearly full-tilt 4 month multi-country extravaganza. His "take-no-prisoners" reputation of years gone by may have mellowed ever so slightly, but audience reaction worldwide is always the same, no matter if it's an intimate room or a major festival, they drift off into the early mornings, covered in smiles and drenched with sweat. A few years back, Hat Fitz was performing at Ireland’s Castlebar Blues Festival and it was suggested that he might like to check out a wonderful singer by the name of Cara Robinson, w...

Goldrush - Rosco Levee & The Southern Slide

Image
Rosco Levee is a singer songwriter and guitarist from Kent, who has been playing the guitar for the last 23 years...and he’s only 28 now! Music and writing songs is in his blood; every day he composes a new song, a set of lyrics or a new melody to work with. Spurred on by his good friend, the notable singer songwriter Pete Molinari, Rosco has gone back to his roots where he was brought up on a diet of blues, country and rock ‘n’ roll. Artists such as Robert Johnson, Delaney Bramlett and Elvis, and bands such as The Allman Brothers, Rolling Stones and The Band are all major influences.   If you support live Blues acts, up and coming Blues talents and want to learn more about Blues news and Fathers of the Blues, -  ”LIKE” ---Bman’s Blues Report--- Facebook Page! Big Road Blues - Delta Swamp Rats

Image
Steve Arvey started playing Music seriously when he was 18 years old. While in college in Gainesville, Florida he met John Vilardo who was the first person that he ever jammed with. Soon after he was meet to Ben Andrews. Ben was a country blues ragtime guitarist from Washington, DC. Bent turned me on to the great country bluesmen like Charley Patton, Robert Johnson, Bukka White and Leadbelly just to name a few. When I first heard Leadbelly it seemed my whole life changed. Ben really was my first big influence into the blues. He showed me how to fingerpick and got me into playing bass. Another person from Gainesville and an early influence was Barrelhouse Chuck. Chuck had a large record collection and was playing in the Robert Hunter Blues Band. Robert Hunter was a blind saxophone player who had worked with Bobby “Blue” Bland in the sixties. Eventually Chuck moved out to Seattle and Ben and I formed another band to back up Robert Hunter. The same year Bo Diddley moved to Gainesville. ...

Henrietta Records artist: Charlie Musselwhite - Juke Joint Chapel - New Release Review

Image
I just received the newest release, Juke Joint Chapel , from Charlie Musselwhite and it's a monster. I've been listening to Musselwhite for years and I can honestly say that this is my favorite release in some time. Opening with Eddie Taylor's Bad Boy , a super shuffle track, Musselwhite sets a firm groove. Musselwhite has a distinctive style and tone and it's strong here with Charlie on vocals and swinging guitar work from Matt Stubbs. On Shakey Jake track Roll Your Money Maker , Musselwhite and bassist Mike Phillips have a lot of fun with the vocals and Stubbs rips out some smoking hot riffs. On Tony Joe White's As The Crow Flies , Musselwhite really gets the Chicago groove going on harp. With some hot work by June Core on drums, Stubbs steps up with cool great riffs. On Billy Boy Arnold's Gone Too Long , Musselwhite takes a more melodic take on his solo with sounds of his work from the 70's. Very cool. Stubbs steps up again with some really nice riffs...

We are MISSISSIPPI ALLIGATORS a dirty Punk Blues band from Spain. We have been preachin' the Punk Blues in Spain since 1995. Ten years playing in taverns, clubs and auditoriums all over Spain. We think there is some kind of revolution with internet and culture. Billy J - New Release Review

Image
I just received the newest release (November 19, 2013), a self titled EP by Billy J and it's pretty cool. Billy is joined on the release by Yonrico Scott (Derek Trucks Band) on drums, Charlie Wooton (Royal Southern Brotherhood) on bass Jeremy Baum (Shemeka Copeland) on keys and Stephen "Buzzy" Krist on percussion. Opening with She's Mine , a country funk with a strong lean to Deep Purple's and Golden Earring, Billy J wastes no time in showing his guitar chops and arrangements by Dave Fields guarantee a tight package. On My Baby's Blue , a straight forward blues rocker, Billy styles a track that should easily fit into many playlists with a solid melody and contagious hook. She , a quiet ballad, sounds like it could have been written by Stevie Nicks and the articulated acoustic guitar work by Buckingham. This is another clever pop like track and again shows strong commercial potential. New Car takes a different street altogether showing flashes of Big Brothe...

Little Red Rooster - LUCY ZIRINS

Image
“As a 12-year-old it was so hard to comprehend the death of my lovely uncle Chris, aged just 41. An accordion player like my granddad, he was learning to play acoustic guitar. When his stuff was cleared out, the guitar and his books and CD tutorials were about to be skipped and I asked if I could have them. I guess I learnt to play guitar to keep his memory alive.”Roll the clock forward to 2008 and the confused young girl who first picked up a guitar just four years ago is now an apprehensive 16-year-old, stepping out onto King Rollo’s Acoustic Stage at the Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival in Colne. By the time she steps down from that stage half an hour later, Lucy’s life will have been transformed. As Alan White of earlyblues.com wrote after the event: “I saw Lucy for the first time at the Colne R&B Festival 2008 and all I can say is… ‘Wow!’ This young lady will go far – such a natural talent for the blues in one so young”. Lucy Zirins At The 2011 Great British Blues ...
