I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Chains and Bones - David Liberty - New release Review

I just received the newest release (January 13, 2014) from David Liberty and it is certainly different from anything else that I have ever reviewed. Opening with Settling, a folk style track electrified, David sings in a euro ballad style while Gary Boardman adds guitar texture. On The Apple, I sense a strong influence by Donovan but again really strongly Liberty. Protest Song has a certain showtune quality, possibly like a rock opera. Damn Butterfiles again has a bit of classical blended with rock along the lines of a euroband and predominant vocal like you may expect from Queen. Romantic Declaration has a strong sub melody and Liberty sings the lead melody reminding me of an old Mountain track performed by another band and with a folk attack. Head Games is a bit rockier with more guitar and drums. Drums are handled by Tom Luke and bass by Brian Fagan. X and Y, another track with strong contemporary show tune format is again strongly pop with radio play inclinations. Come By Chance has a bit more teeth with distorted guitars and driving bass... possibly the strongest track on the release. Fifteen Minutes From Now is much more straightforward in pop rock fashion with horn backing. Closing track, End Of Story is a very simple ballad with a simple hook. Nice conclusion for a very different release.

I use it only to draw attention to some of the key posts on my blog each day.  This track is not from this new release but an example of Liberty's work.
