Gregg Allman, one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers Band, has died. He was 69. The southern rocker's passing was announced on his official website , adding that Allman "passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah, Georgia" on Saturday. Allman's death comes after rumors circulated last month that he had entered hospice care. A rep for the rocker told ABC News that the rumors were not true. Raymond Berry Oakley III (April 4, 1948 – November 11, 1972), was an American bassist and one of the founding members of The Allman Brothers Band. Oakley was born in Chicago, Illinois, raised in the suburb of Park Forest, Illinois, then moved to Florida where he met and joined Dickey Betts's band, The Second Coming. He was a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band in 1969, along with guitarist Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, who was the band's vocalist and keyboardist, Dickey Betts on second guitar, and drummers Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson, both on drums, congas, and the band's percussionist. The Allman Brothers Band is an American rock/blues band once based in Macon, Georgia. I could write a book on my appreciation of the Allman Brothers as a kid but I'll spare you the gory details. Here's the synopsis. I tried to learn to play slide when I was a kid with absolutely no instruction as all (and no idea what I was doing) because of Duane, I bought and read everything that I could find on Duane, I saw Duane at the Syria Mosque with Taj Mahal in around 71. I got my first dog when I first moved to Arizona ...he was the red headedest golden retriever you ever saw...his name was Skydog. I formed a company called Skyman inc. I tried to buy a piece of Duane (eric's) peacock shirt a few years back. Do you get the picture... I think a lot of Duane and the work he contributed in his few short years.
