I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Fontana North artist: Jordan Patterson - The Back On Track Recording Project - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, The Back On Track Recording Project, from Jordan Patterson and it has super polish and presence. Opening with Favourite Boy, a foot stompin rocker, Patterson picks up where he left off on his EP of 2014. With the thumping bass of Mark McIntyre, and the rowdy guitar work of Darryl Romphf and Bobby Thompson Patterson on lead vocal and harp lays down a solid track. With the easy feel of Eric Clapton on 461, ballad, Can We Fall In Love Again, sets itself up as a major radio player. Skyler Jordan adds really nice backing vocals on the track nicely balancing Patterson's soulful lead. Tasty guitar riffs over tight drum work by Benjamin Rollo and Scott Galloway on keys. Very nice. Shuffle track, She's Cool, opens with a cool harp intro and with a driving monotone bass rhythm... this track could be from Texas. Patterson is a seasoned lead vocalist and his call/response with Romphf gives the track nice edge. Patterson takes a nice modern blues harp solo as the rhythm section drives the boogie and Romphf grinds the riffs. Very cool! You're My Girl is a high energy pop rocker with powerful vocal contributions from Jordan. Funky, Living Without Your Love, has a super beat bringing to mind Use Me by Bill Withers. This track should perk ears just based upon that factor. A track that is pretty much impossible not to like, this track has a real nice groove with smooth keys and flowing guitar solos. Very nice! Play My Song has a light R&B feel with a rock edge. There is a real nice harp bridge with strong guitar support and crisp drumming giving this track a hot boot. If You'd Help Me Please has the smell of Chicago and Muddy Waters. With it's trademark lumbering feel, Chicago style harp riffs and excellent guitar phrasing, this track is super! Do You Believe has a cool back beat and cool hook. The track has the guts of a solid rocker and with Patterson's vocals, hot guitar riffs and a particularly hot drum line, this may be my favorite track on the release. Heartbreaker has a real solid bass line and snare slap anchoring the track and multiple guitar lines giving it real sting. With Patterson's delivery and the especially solid bass, I really like this track. Wrapping the release is blues rocker, Don't Take Me Down, another solid shuffle track with a tight bottom. With Patterson baiting the band with his vocals and the guitars answering every opening, and Patterson's own harp work, this is a real nice closer for this solid release.

The solid offering featured guest performances from blues legends Bobby Rush and Bobby Parker which led to the  opportunity to record sessions for the BBC Musical Archives, which were broadcast all throughout the European continents; amassing him many more fans in the process.

The 2014 release of the The Back On Track Recording Project EP instantly raised Patterson’s profile within the Canadian and international blues community with extensive airplay on Canadian radio and in the USA, including rotation on Sirius XM radio and the track “Don’t Take Me Down” was featured on Elwood’s BluesMobile and selected as one of Elwood’s Blues Breakers. Now, Patterson is set to release the full-length Back On Track Recording Project with The Jordan Patterson Band, featuring drummer Benjamin Rollo, bass player Mark McIntyre, guitarist Darryl Romphf, Washington DC-based, guitarist Bobby Thompson alongside Patterson on vocals and harmonica. Renowned vocalist Skyler Jordan (aka Barbara Wilson) makes a guest appearance on two tracks,“You’re My Girl” and “Can We Fall In Love Again”. This tight, heavy line-up of stellar musicians add depth and groove to perfectly compliment Patterson’s smoky vocals. The album consists of 10 original songs all written by Patterson, showcasing his many musical influences including funk, rock, blues and soul. The CD is produced by the band’s guitarist Darryl Romphf.  With six new tracks (Favourite Boy, Can We Fall In Love Again, She’s Cool, You’re My Girl, Living Without Your Love and Do You Believe) as well as remixed and mastered versions of the original four tracks from the EP (Play My Song, If You’d Help Me Please, Heartbreaker and Don’t Take Me Down), Patterson’s exceptional harmonica playing, sophisticated song writing and refreshing blend of rock n’ roll and blues are all highlighted throughout this highly anticipated release.

Flaming Cheese Records artist: The Jordan Patterson Band - The Back On Track Recording Project - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, The Back On Track Recording Project, from The Jordan Patterson Band and it's quite enjoyable. Opening with hard driving blues rocker, Play My Song, features solid vocals from Patterson and a tight rocking unit behind him. Darryl Romphf (guitar), Shawn Kellerman (guitar), Darius McKinley (bass) and Benjamin Rollo (drums) provide a really powerful backing for Patterson's vocal and harmonica work. Don't Take Me Down is a rolling rocker and the more I listen to this band the more I appreciate the tight drumming of Rollo. He is not only on top of it, he's all over it. Excellent! With a driving ZZ Top kind of feel but with more polish (and might I say a lot more interesting than their pop stuff) this band hits the road running hard. If You'd Help Me Please gets down in the mud with a solid blues number showing hot guitar riffs and slide. With traces of Foghat and a bit of grit, this is one of my favorite tracks on the release. Patterson shows muich more clearly on this track that he has strong roots in the blues and his harp work is really nice. Wrapping the release is Heartbreaker, another grinding blues rock track with a cool bass riff by McKinley. Guitar attack on this track really gives it a lot of grunt and Pattersons vocals are spotless. With a taste of ZZ Top, a dose of Paul Rogers, strong writing and 5 excellent musicians, this really is a great start. An excellent conclusion to a very solid release.
