I just received the new release, Feels Like Home from Barrelhouse . The release opens with the title track, Feels Like Going Home , a finger picked blues style number with vocal harmonies. You Never Listen , played on Dobro in C Minor6 tuning has a quick pace and finger picking and slide work accompanying Burke on vocal. The Cadillac tells a cool little story in the style of the Appalachians but with a delta twist again using vocal harmonies. Day At The Beach has a very rudimentary style and one of the best tracks on the release. Bridge To Cross has some intricate picking in the style of Kottke. Eventually You'll Jump is a faster paced number with Burke's fingers pushing the pace. Nowhere In Sight keeps a solid middle ground in rural acoustic music. The instrumental Maine In October , has a very light and breezy feel to it played much in the upper octave of the guitar. Business As Usual is an acoustic boogie with vocal harmonies. Barrelhouse – the band with two lives Beginnings In 1973, when Barrelhouse first came together as “Barrelhouse Bailey’s Blues & Boogie Band,” the musicians already had years of experience under their belts. Barrelhouse Bailey himself was none other than Han van Dam. It was his stage name in the Oscar Benton Blues Band, where Jan Willem Sligting was known as Jay Walker. The LaPorte surname also stems from this period and isn’t the real last name of brothers Guus and John. The Oscar Benton Blues Band, along with Cuby & the Blizzards, was the premier blues group in the Netherlands in the late 60s and early 70s. “Like” Bman’s Facebook page (available in over 50 languages).
