Grounded Soul Records artist: Greg Sover - His-Story - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, His-Story , from Greg Sover and it's a cool blues rocker. Opening with Dark House , Greg Sover on lead vocal, bass, harmonica and guitar is joined by Jim Salamone on drums and guitar, Kyle Perrelli and Brad Hinton on understated wailing lap steel guitar. Cool opener. Slow blues, Temptation , has a real nice feel with some of Sover's best vocals on the release. Backed up by David Uosikkinen on drums and Kenny Aaronson on bass this track sets a nice bluesy pace for the release. Jimi's Manic Depression retains it's original driving rock feel. Sover does a real nice job on lead guitar holding down Jimi's riffs with Billy Cox cooking the bass and Tom Walling pounding the drums. Strong. Song 28 has a clear root in Hendrix and it's overdriven rock feel. Sover's guitar riffs are screaming and Najashi Rasheed on on drums really tows the line backed by Aaronson on bass. Wrapping the release is Remember ...

Greg Sover - Jubilee - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Jubilee , from Greg Sover and it's solid. Opening with driving rocker, Emotional , lead vocalist and guitarist, Sover leads the tour and a heavy bass line by Garry Lee sets the pace. Backed by Allen James on electric guitar, Tom Walling on drums and Wally Smith on keys, this track feels a bit retro. Title track, Jubilee , has a strong blues feel with Mikey Junior on harp. Slide resonator work by Sover gives the track a real cool feel. Hand On My Heart is a soulful yet jazzy track along the lines of Sting. Nicely placed guitar riffs and elegant piano placement makes this one of my favorites on the release. Don Robey's As The Years Go Passing By has a smooth blues feel with solid vocals and stinging guitar riffs. With an aggressive attack, Temptation has classic 12 bar structure but with explosive, overdriven guitar riffs. Sover slices and dices on this track making it the outstanding guitar track on the relea...

Greg Sover - Songs Of A Renegade - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Songs of a Renegade from Greg Sover and it's classic arena rock. Opening with Moment , a bluesy ballad, Greg Sover on lead vocals shows real polish, backed by Garry Lee on vocal and bass, Allen James on guitar, Tom Walling on drums and Wally Smith on keys. His guitar solo phrasing is solid and dynamic. With a edgier sound on Heroes , Lee drives the bass and Sover's lead vocal and guitar work is spot on. On Quicksand Sover's Philadelphia roots show blending his rock nature with Philly soul. With blues bones, After Me explores a more pure form of the blues with basic blues riffs and a modified walking bass line. Cool. One of my favorite tracks on the release is Bill Withers' Ain't No Sunshine performed with a slight reggae twist, driving rock drums and flaming guitars. Very nice. Wrapping the release is Cherie , a cool track with Caribbean rhythms. With it's catchy melody and contagious rhythm,...
