Zac Harmon & The Drive - Live - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Live , from Zac Harmon & The Drive and it's super! Opening with soulful, NTRO , Nate Robinson on bass and Gino Iglehart on drums set a solid foundation, with Corey Lacy building on keys and lush guitar work by Zac Harmon and Kingston Livingston really setting the bar. Terrific opener. Blue Pill Thrill has super movement and soulful vocals by Harmon. Lacy on keys works the rhythm with Robinson and Iglehart and Livingston and and Harmon play stinging riffs on guitar really giving this track some kick. Deep blues track, Feet Back On The Ground features Albert King like stinging riffs and super soulful vocals by Harmon. Keeping the music floor low allows Harmon plenty of space to go dynamically from soft to wow quickly adding real emotion to the track. Excellent! Boogie Down is a strong jam with a firm piano base by Lacy giving Harmon plenty of headroom for vocal corralling. Lacy lays in some real tasty keyboar...

I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Seth Rosenbloom - Keep On Turning - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Keep On Turning , from Seth Rosenbloom and it's really quite good. Opening with blues ballad, Keep On Turning , lead guitarist and vocalist, Seth Rosenbloom shows really strong vocal skills as well as a great sense of blues guitar playing with strong phrasing and feel. Excellent opener backed by Travis Carlton on bass, Gary Novak on drums and Scott Kinsey on keys. Shuffle track, I Can't Take It has a Texas blues feel with traces of Albert King and SRV. Very nice. BB King's Heartbreaker has a cool, up beat pace with great guitar style, punched up by the trumpet playing of Jamelle Adisa and sax work by Dan Boissy. One of my favorite tracks on the release is slow blues ballad, Right About Now , with strong vocals, excellent drum accents by Novak and clocking in at over 5 minutes has just the right amount of guitar to satisfy. Elmore James' Look Over Yonder Wall has a really nice funky beat giving Rosenblo...

Boston Blues Guitarist Seth Rosenbloom to Release New CD ‘Keep on Turning’ out January 18th “For me, playing the blues is all about expressing emotions,” guitarist and vocalist Seth Rosenbloom insists. “What’s always drawn me to the genre is the fact that it allows for an extraordinarily wide range of emotion. That, I think, is the key to making great music overall, and great blues in particular.” Rosenbloom knows of what he speaks. Hailed by The Boston Globe as “a searing blues-rock guitarist,” and The Noise Boston as a musician who “makes his guitar growl and has a voice to match,” he’s been compared to “a slightly younger and rawer version of Matt Schofield ,” by the Blues PowR blog, which also praised him for “his gravelly, forceful vocals and stinging guitar work.” Those assessments were affirmed this past year, when Rosenbloom made his bow with his debut self-titled EP. Now, with the release of his first full length effort, Keep On Turning (January 2019), that...
