I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

New Release: Warm Up My Bones - Liam Tarpey - Review

I just received a copy of Liam Tarpey's new recording "Warm Up My Bones". This recording is really strong. It is a 10 track all original (self penned) recording. The first track, "On My Neck" is a Texas style blues instrumental. It's a great opening track and really get's you moving along the lines of "Jeff's Boogie". The second track, "Krypto Blues" is a great example of British Blues Rock. This third and title track, "Warm Up My Bones" is a more traditional style slow blues presented with all of the modern overtones. (This guy is a very proficient guitar player and he's not afraid to demonstrate it!)The fourth track, "On Her Own", is another slower blues tune and Liam has a good blues voice and again demonstrates his guitar prowess. The 5th song, "Lorraine", is a more contemporary sounding song, like an offspring of the blues, still strongly blues influenced. Again a nice dose of guitar. The 6th song, "Oyster Card Blues", is an acoustic slide song. Each song further demonstrating Liam's versatility. " Let Me Know","Pennies" and "Never Again" are songs that are likely to get airplay universally and remind me of some of the contemporary players who crossover into the blues arena occasionally. They are strongly written but more in the ballad or pop vein. The last song, "Peter Panda", is a very cool guitar instrumental with a lot of trem that puts me in the mind of something that Peter Green would write.I really like it.

So now the final verdict. I really like this body of work. The strong tracks are really quite strong and I know that I'm one of the few people who really doesn't appreciate a little pop with my blues so I have to look past the three songs that although strongly written were "not my bag". Most of the songs on this recording would be strong contenders on just about any new blues release and I think that "Warm My Bones" and "Peter Panda" are outstanding!

This is a terrific release!

Liam Tarpey Band: DOWNLOAD FREE CD!: Recording Review

I have just had the opportunity to download the free...yes that's FREE "download cd" on Liam Tarpey Bands Facebook Page (Tap the title of the blog entry above) to go to Liam's download page. Liam and the band have put together an interesting set of tunes, including original and cover tunes. The opening tune, "On My Neck" is a real jammer in the realm of Beck's Boogie. My only complaint is it ends too soon! The recording continues with a mixture of covers of Eobert Johnson, Wilbert Harrison, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix and Larry Davis as well as a number of originals. I found the recording very enjoyable especially Tarpey's relentless attack on his guitar. Every note isn't in place but the feeling is all there and it's real! The standout tracks are "On My Neck" and Warm Up My Bones". Get your copy today... I mean...hey...it's free...and I think you'll like it!
The Liam Tarpey Band are an energetic young Blues trio from London UK, comprising of Liam Tarpey (guitar and vocals), Rob Millard (bass and vocals) and James Taylor (drums). They formed in 2011, have been gigging extensively since and released their acclaimed debut album in October of the same year. With constant airplay on UK and international Blues radios, and album reviews in big publications such as Classic Rock Magazine, they are rapidly gaining a solid fan base.
