I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

New Blues Revolution - Hellendale and Back - New release review

I just received the newest release, Hellendale and Back from New Blues Revolution and it's diverse and interesting. Opening with Souls On Fire, lead by Bill Grisolia on lead vocal, joined by Chap Cooper on guitars, Roger Beall on drums and Bob Burns on bass, creates a solitude but heavy track with traces of Jim Morrison, Zack Wilde and Alice Cooper. With the paired drone bass notes, Burns holds the bottom tight and Cooper creates a swirling guitar aura. Whiskey Town retains much of the easy attack darkness of BLS with cleverly woven guitar riffs and subdued rhythms. Black Widow opens up with a cool walking bass line and slick guitar riff. With a lighter attack and a more deliberate rock approach, this track has great dynamics and cool radio appeal. Surf slanted Baby Blue doesn't use any of the classic surf guitar riffs but the feel is there and cleanly stroked bass and guitar lines along with the simple drum lines and brighter vocals give this track more of a poppy feel. Wrapping the release and my favorite track on the release is Sunset Psycho Twang clocking in at over 5 minutes. This track has an airy Jeff Beck (or Pink Floyd if you prefer) feel that builds tension throughout with dynamic, well placed guitar lead over a very staid rhythm. This is a really cool track and a solid finisher for New Blues Revolutions newest effort.

Cutting-edge Long Beach band New Blues Revolution (pictured) are one of the headliners at the 2nd Annual Latin Jazz & Blues Fest at Houghton Park, next Saturday, July 27.

Headlining a strong live music bill that includes area favorites Jazz Angels, Dat EZ Band, Box Car 7, DW3 and the Susie Hansen Latin Band, are New Blues Revolution.
In a music world where seemingly every band tries to be trendy, New Blues Revolution are transcendent. Where other groups feel a huge sense of accomplishment for playing one show a week, NBR are the Ernie Banks of the Blues - they prefer to play two gigs (often in the same day!). Where most bands pick a sound and stick to it come hell or high water, NBR willingly criss-cross the boundaries of blues, rock, soul and jazz with their music. And don't even get me started on the colorful character who fronts New Blues Revolution, Bill Grisolia. When they made Bill, they truly broke the mold!
New Blues Revolution are leading the vanguard of the New Blues Movement in the U.S. (think: Black Keys, John Mayer, Mumford and Sons).  Similar to the explosion in the British Blues scene of the 1960's, NBR work to broaden, deepen and contemporize the Blues. New Blues Revolution have performed everywhere from the flagship Sunset Strip (L.A.) House of Blues to a myriad of high-profile concerts and festivals.  NBR have opened for a diverse range of music legends including Tab Benoit, Macy Gray, Leon Russell, Rick Derringer, David Lindley, and the late Michael Burks. Forging a unique, distinctive style, NBR brings exciting showmanship to a mix of high-energy New Blues songs - deep, modern, rock-y but also soulful. The New Blues Revolution has received rave reviews from national magazines including Music Connection, American Blues News, and Cashbox to name a few. Their song "Blue Revolution" was previously nominated for a Los Angeles Music Award, with the band receiving a "Best Musical Group" LAMA nod as well.

"Guitarist Chap Cooper is  the last great  blues guitarist"
                                           (L.A. Music Examiner)

@New Blues Revolution @At House Of Blues @CD Release Party: Tweet That!

PUT THIS IN YOUR PIPE AND TWEET IT: NEW BLUES REVOLUTION CD RELEASE PARTY AT HOUSE OF BLUES/HOLLYWOOD  -- SATURDAY, APRIL 6

(Hollywood) - In a music world where seemingly every band tries to be trendy, New Blues Revolution are transcendent.

Don't take my word for it: Come see (and hear) for yourself when New Blues Revolution celebrate their new record, Revolution #9, with a CD Release Party on Saturday, April 6 at the House of Blues (Crossroads Room), 8430 W. Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood. 7-10 p.m. No cover. Special food and drink deals (ask your waiter/waitress for details). Info: (323) 848-5316 or https://www.facebook.com/TheNewBluesRevolution. This band is sheer aural fun! Did we mention they were nominated for "Musical Group of the Year" for 2012 by the Los Angeles Music Awards?

Our friends in the media have said things like "at the House of Blues (front person) Bill channeled Jim Morrison" (All Access Magazine); "(guitarist Chap Cooper is) the last great  blues guitarist" (L.A. Music Examiner); and "one of the very best bands in L.A." (The Whiskey). Believe me, NBR (and their publicist) are very grateful for these laudits; but what really makes this band tick is when those in attendance at one of their unpredictable/ crazy/sexy/cool shows leaves not only hot and sweaty, but with a HUGE grin on their face!

Here's NBR putting their unique spin on Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put A Spell On You."

Revolution Number 9 - New Blues Revolution - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Revolution Number 9, from New Blues Revolution. NBR is Bill Grisolia (vocal and piano), Chap Cooper (guitars), Phil Hardy (drums) with Steve Harris (bass) Stefan Swensson (addl drums) and lee Godden (addl drums). The release opens with Let Me Go, a driving rock track with a touch of Rainbow. Blue Revolution has a bit more funk in the step and a pinch of Prince but retaining the vocals edge as on the first track. Cooper plays a cool airy guitar solo on this track giving it a bit of a jazz feel. The Big House has a more laid back feel with slide guitar, casual story telling vocals and rim shot rhythm. Sway has a real casual blues swing giving Grisolia a chance to relax and sing. Pink 7 has a prog rock fusion kind of sound and I like it pretty well. Cooper plays guitar harmony over Grisolia on keys and light percussion. It has a experimental feel but doesn't travel too far from the path with tandem guitar soloing and solid bottom. This is the strongest track on the release. Whiskytown has the sound of a northwest grunge rock ballad. With only guitar and vocals layered it creates an interesting ambiance. Next Up is Al Green's Take Me To The River. This of course is a great track ... this version of the song more closely resembling the Talking Heads than Al Green but cool just the same. The release is completed with Blueline, a driving boogie track. This is the most conventional blues rock track on the release with a full compliment of vocal, guitar, drums, bass and keys. Cooper plays the riffs with a lot of sting. One of the primarily riffs on this track is similar to one used by one of favorite bands a number of years ago on the song A Ring In His Nose. Overall an enjoyable release with a variety of sounds.

New Blues Revolution - Bio

Nominated for "Best Musical Group" by the L.A. Music Awards, New Blues Revolution (NBR) continues a winning streak in 2012. The band previously hosted the Red Carpet at the 2010 L.A. Music Awards, held on the famed Paramount Studios lot in Hollywood, Calif. . NBR is at the forefront of the new Blues movement in the U.S., akin to the boom in the British Blues in the 1960's. They work to broaden, deepen and contemporize the blues.

The band have opened for a diverse range of music legends including Tab Benoit, Macy Gray, Leon Russell, Rick Derringer, Burt Bacharach, Blood Sweat & Tears, Three Dog Night, David Lindley, Michael Burks and Katey Sagal.

Forging a unique, distinctive style featuring Bill Grisolia's vocals and piano and Chap Cooper's guitar, the band brings exciting showmanship to a mix of high-energy New Blues numbers and ballads - deep, modern, rocky but soulful. The New Blues Revolution has received rave reviews from national trade magazines such as Cashbox and Music Connection. Critics have recognized NBR's exciting talent and their extraordinary songwriting.

Before he was 12, Chap played rhythm guitar for members of the Yardbirds and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. It was old hat to the guitarist who scored his first paying gig at age 8. Growing up among Rock's most famous legends has led to his working with many top musicians and recording artists. Early on, Chap led the house band at Gazzari's, a top Sunset Strip music venue from yesteryear. While Bill's first memories of life are of the Spanish coast of the Mediterranean, the bilingual singer grew up in the blues rock jazz stew of Kansas City, MO. His international career began at age eighteen playing the top clubs of Valencia, Spain (Tres Triste Tigres and Pub Gent in the rough Barrio Del Carmen district). In grade school, he loved a single from the Spanish Beatle-esque band, Los Bravos. Self-taught, he earned himself an endorsement contract with Yamaha acoustic pianos.
