ALBUM REVIEW
Kat Riggins and Her Blues Revival - Everyday is Saturday
Kat Riggins is a Miami-born singer-songwriter who brings a gritty, high-energy approach to contemporary blues. Raised on a steady diet of gospel, soul, and rock records, she found her primary vocal inspiration in the raspy, emotional styles of artists like Koko Taylor and Tina Turner. Through what she calls her "Blues Revival Movement," Riggins focuses on keeping the genre current by blending traditional blues roots with a tougher, modern edge. Over the course of her career, she has built up a steady discography with albums like Cry Out and Progeny, earning several Blues Music Award nominations along the way. Working closely with multi-instrumentalist and producer Tim Mulberry, Riggins writes straightforward, personal songs that are heavily built around her live performances. Whether in the studio or touring, her focus remains on delivering an unvarnished, authentic live music experience.

Opening with slinky, Heads Are Gonna Roll with Erik Guess really rocking on lead guitar, Tim Mulberry on rhythm guitar and drums. Kat Riggins really drives this train with super backing vocals by Shaelyn Mulberry and Tim Mulberry.
Up tempo boogie, I Say So, is one of my favorite tracks on the release with it's distinctive Willie Dixon framework and super drum beat on the bottom framing Riggins' vocals and Guess on guitar. Ain't Goin' Down is one of my strong tracks on the release with stinging guitar riffs and a real swagger by Riggins on vocals and rich backing vocals by Shaelyn.
Blues rocker, Holy Water, has a darkness to it with intense vocals by Riggins, a thumping bass rhythm line, a solid kick drum and winding, grinding slide guitar soloing by Guess. Very cool. Laid back, Til the Lights Come On has an easy, funky feel with Riggins bopping along on lead vocals and Guess laying down funky, country flavored guitar riffs in contrast. The looseness of this track is it's strength with just the right amount of structure to make it swing.
Wrapping the release is Live In Peace, a powerful smoldering ballad. Riggins really digs in deep on this one, enveloped in deep organ work by Tim Mulberry with really potent backing vocals by Timya and Tamla Mulberry making this an extremely powerful closer.

My take
This album is a gritty, high-energy ride that goes from rowdy, foot-stomping grooves to deep, soulful late-night vibes before wrapping things up with a powerful, slow-burning closer.
