I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

(Los Angeles) - A star-filled event billed as "The Halloween Party of the Season" taking place at NOLA's in downtown L.A. on Friday, October 28 features performances by hit recording artist Eloise Laws; renowned singer-songwriter Harold Payne; internationally-acclaimed Stuart Elster Jazz Trio; and starring blues-jazz vocalist/singer-songwriter, Shelley Fisher. Hosted by Cabrini Presents, NOLA's is at 734 E. 3rd St., L.A. 8:00 p.m.-12 midnite; $10. (includes party favors and masks, costume contest, dancing, and after-party). A 'Taste of New Orleans' menu and a Special "Forkplay" menu from Shelley's TV show, i.e. Horny Cornbread StudMuffins; Shrimp Spanky; Shish Ka-Boobs; and her signature dessert Nookie Cookies will be available. Reservations strongly suggested; info: (213) 680-3003 or www.nolasla.com. Fisher's new Cd "Cookin' With Attitude" will be available that evening.
Fisher, the "Memphis Belle of L.A." has also been referred to as the "Dolly Parton of the Blues." The multi-talented entertainer and creator of the romantic comedy cooking TV show "ForkPlay" has appeared on national television with Dick Clark and Danny Bonaduce, among others. Fisher calls her music 'Bluesion' - combining blues, r&b, and rock 'n' roll into one - and uses the 'King' monicker in her name because she hails from the place that made Elvis Presely famous, Memphis, TN.
The transplanted blonde bombshell has a fiercely independent streak and quips - "my mama told me I turned out to be the man she always hoped I'd marry." Her music consists of "story-songs which give the listener a slice of life." These include "You Gave Me Back My Innocence" - "about that euphoric experience of the first crush and the yearning to regain that feeling as the years go by;" "Bluff City Baby" - "a journey through my girlhood in Memphis, known as the Bluff City, 'cause it's built high atop a natural bluff overlooking the mighty Mississippi. No matter where you come from or where you're going, most folks discover that much of life is a bluff - 'he made me mellow, he made me ruff, he called my Bluff...City Baby." Then there's the title track to "Cookin' With Attitude" - "one of my ForkPlay theme songs which describes the importance of keeping the flame alive in the kitchen and you-know-where else."
