The Jimmys - Gotta Have It - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Gotta Have It , from The Jimmys and it's a cool blues and boogie collection. Opening with Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet , Jimmy Voegeli leads the way on piano and lead vocal with a great feel with Melodye Perry in harmony and with Perry Weber on guitar, Peterson Ross on sax, John Wartenweiler on bass, Kevan Feyzi on trombone, Mike Boman on trumpet, Kyle Samuelson on trombone, Al Falaschi on bari sax, Kurt Shipe on trumpet and Tony Braunagel on drums. Solid opener. Title track, She Gotta Have It, has super swing with lead vocals by Voegeli and backing by Perry and Marcia Ball. With a firm walking bass line and Weber's no frills guitar lead, Voegeli's piano work shines through. Cool boogie woogie track, Hotel Stebbins , is thick with a big horn section. Real nice. Drinkin' has a real nice slow feel with Voegeli singing over terrific piano lead. The horn section is full and tight and Webber's guitar pu...

Brown Cow Productions artist: The Jimmys - Live From Transylvania - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Live from Transylvania , from T he Jimmys and I really like it. Opening with Jacqui Juice , the Jimmys are smoking from the start. With this hot shuffle instrumental, the band members get a chance to blow out the pipes right up front starting with Perry Weber on guitar, followed by Charley Wagner on trumpet, Pete Ross on sax and Jimmy Voegeli on Hammond riding high on the backs of Mauro Magellan on drums and John Wartenweiler on bass. Excellent! Boogie track, I Wonder features Voegeli on lead vocal and the excellent work of Darren Sterud on trombone over an ultra tight band who play together like an oiled machine. Nice! Rocker, You Can't Hurt Me Anymore , has more of a driving beat with strong vocals and solid solos by Weber on guitar and Voegeli on piano. Hell Or Heaven has a much easier sound with stronger radio appeal like a Chicago balance and nicely blended vocals. Another shuffle track with a pop twist, Love...

Brown Cow Productions artists: The Jimmys - Hot Dish - New Release Review

Image
I just received the newest release, Hot Dish from The Jimmys and hot it is! Opening with Lose That Woman , is a Latin influenced number with a swing. Featuring Jimmy Voegeli on keys and lead vocal, this track is hot out of the gate. With John Wartenweiler on bass, Perry Weber on guitar and Mauro Magellan on drums this unit is tight. Mike Bowman on trumpet, Darren Sterud on trumpet, trombone and backing vocal and Pete Ross on sax each add slick riffs of their own even venturing into surf territory with backing vocals from Al Falaschi, Alison Margaret and Faith Ulwelling making this a great opener! I really like You Say You Will which has attitude. With Roy Head style guitar riffs from Weber and Voegeli's rolling piano riffs, pushed over the top by the horn section (The Amateur Horn Stars) this track rocks. R&B style Freight Train has a blend of Wilson Pickett, Al Green and Booket T. You're kidding me ...right? No. This track is super. Solid horn lead and Weber throwing ...
