Alligator Records artist: Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials - Slideways - New Release Review

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Slideways , from Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials and it's terrific! Opening with Bad All By Myself , Lil' Ed on lead guitar and vocal, gets things rocking right off the bat. With Michael Garrett playing a strong rhythm line reinforced by James "Pookie" Young and Kelly Littleton on drums, this is a great opener. The Flirt In The Car Wash Skirt is a great blues rocker with raucous slide work by Lil' Ed and Ben Levin on piano really gets this track boogieing. Vital rhythm guitar work by Garrett and a rock solid bottom makes this one of my favorites on the release. Elmore James flavored, 13th Street And Trouble , is a strong track with a pounding bottom and super piano work by Levin. Lil' Ed has this track by the short hairs and is really shaking it. Cooking! Laid back Chicago blues , More Time , has solid pacing and features Lil' Ed upfront on lead vocal. Garrett showcases his lead gui...

Hwy 11 Records artists: Sunday Wilde & Reno Jack - Two - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Two , from Sunday Wilde and Reno Jack and it's colorful. Vocalist/ piano player, Sunday Wilde leads the way on opener, Howlin' Wolf's Howling For My Darling with guitars by Steve Koch and Johnny MacLeod, bass by Reno Jack and drums by Cleave Anderson. I really like Jack's interpretation on Moonlight Rising which is like a cross between Lou Reed and Roger Waters. Very cool. Shuffle track, 5-10-15 Hours has a super blues feel pairing Jack and Sunday on a cool duet. MacLeod's bass work and light brush strokes of Anderson are a nice backdrop for a cool jazzy guitar lead. Bluesy ballad, No Matter How Far features Sunday on lead vocal and piano in her best vocal track on the release. Wrapping the release is duet, L eaving On Your Mind which really sets off Jack and Sunday against Jack's bass playing. Hwy11 Records artist: Sunday Wilde - Blueberries and Grits - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Blueberries and Grits , from Sunday Wilde and it's sassy. Opening with New Orleans flavored, Show Me A Man , Wilde's trademark vocal style and piano finesse blends nicely with the trumpet work of Roger Reupert and backed by Sturgis Nikides on dobro, Reno Jack on bass, Rickey "Quicksand" Martin on drums. Latin spiced, Early In The Morning , a Louis Jordan track, is one of my favorite tracks with April Mae on washboard and Dave Fecca on acoustic guitar. Momma's Drinkin's Done has traditional boogie lines featuring strong vocals blanketed in Reupert's trumpet and Wilde's own piano work. Simple rocker, That Man Drives Me Mad , has primitive roots with Mandy Lemons on backing vocals. Billy Earheart's Cottage Pump Organ teamed with Wilde's piano work gives it an interesting sound blended with pop punk phrasing.
