I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Luca Burgalassi - On The Other Side Of The Water - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, On The Other Side Of The Water, from Luca Burgalassi and it's a cool, laid back fusion of blues, country, folk and jazz. Opening with title track On The Other Side Of The Water, Luca Burgalassi presents a soft, rich melodies and harmonies accompanying himself on guitar and harmonica, with Dave Hufstedler on bass, Gianni Apicella on drums and Valentina Sorberra on backing vocals. Soothing. One of my favorite tracks on the release is Blues In My Mind with a James Taylor like style. Trading electric guitar riffs with Franco Ceccanti gives the track an extra kick. Very nice. On Broken Heart Blues, a solid shuffle track, Burgalassi shares the mic with Resa Gibbs who adds real spice. Backing by Jackie Merritt on harmonica and Dave Hufstedler on bass gives the track texture. Easy flowing electric jazz number, Minor and Major Change has a real nice sway and understated but charged electric guitar soloing by Burgalassi and Ceccanti.Very nice. Wrapping the release is I've Got The Blues For Christmas, a clever pop track with a memorable melody, smooth instrumentation and featuring Fabrizio Poggi on harmonica. This is a smooth release with a lot of warm tracks.

M.C. Records artists: Guy Davis & Fabrizio Poggi - Sonny & Brownie's Last Train - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Sonny & Brownie's Last Train, by Guy Davis &  Fabrizio Poggi. This is a full helping of traditional style acoustic blues featuring Guy Davis on vocal and guitar and Fabrizio Poggi on harmonica. Opening with the Davis penned title track, Sonny & Brownie's Last Train, Davis sets a snappy guitar rhythm, singing and accompanying himself on guitar. On Robert Pete Williams' Louise Louise, Guy slips into Williams' shoes and sings one of my favorite tracks on the release, with underlying harp and guitar. Very nice. On Sonny Terry classic, Hooray Hooray These Women Is Killing Me, Davis really captures the spirit of Sonny with his enthusiasm and Poggi's soulful harp.  On Big Joe Williams' Baby Please Don't Go Back To New Orleans, Davis really digs in for a super guitar intro and Davis and Poggi's work are tops.  On Elizabeth Cotten's Freight Train, Davis and Poggi stay with the theme of this release performing a tight rendition of Cotten's trademark tune. On Brownie McGee original, Evil Hearted Me, Davis delivers on vocal and Poggi harp  for another of my favorites on the release.  Written by Sonny, Brownie and Brownies wife Ruth, Walk On is Brownie and Ruth's tune and a perfect track to cement the cohesion of the pair. Wrapping the release  is Midnight Special, well known track performed by many performers. Davis's vocals and guitar is tight and Poggi's harp work is vibrant giving this track the perfect feel as a closer.

Northport NY - Media and radio have taken quite a shine to Sonny & Brownie's Last Train by the Ambassador of the Blues, Guy Davis and international harmonica sensation Fabrizio Poggi. The homage to Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, released on March 24, is becoming one of the most celebrated acoustic releases of 2017.

Sonny & Brownie's Last Train is currently no. 1 for the second week in a row on The Roots Music Reports Top 50 Acoustic Blues Albums.  Click the logo to see the entire chart.

Also, very proud that Sonny & Brownie's Last Train was the no. 23 album for the month of March on the 900 station Folk DJ list, even though most stations had not received it until the second week of March. You can see the entire list here,  http://folkradio.org/

For the past week, stations that broadcast the syndicated radio program Music City Roots have been playing a performance that Guy & Fabrizio recorded in late March. If you missed it, you can click the photo of Guy & show host, Jim Lauderdale and listen to it now.

Guy Davis explains the concept of the recording, Brownie McGhee and Sonny Terry were two musicians whose work will not be surpassed, let alone improved on. This musical opus, was produced by Fabrizio Poggi. It features our combined musical talents, and is not meant to compete with the originals. It’s meant to be a love letter to Brownie and Sonny signed by the both of us. They were two of my favorites.
This is highly recommended! - Making A Scene
