“The band's crunchy chords and sound that's deep rooted in blues rock can be heard on the song we're premiering in the form of 'Back It Up.' Channeling vintage Mississippi blues, the song may sound simple, but if you listen deep, you can hear a couple of musicians kicking back and having a great time.” - PURE VOLUME

"Left Lane Cruiser and Black Diamond Heavies men team up for King Mud. Result = dirty blues" - MAXIMUM VOLUME MUSIC

Alive Records artist: Swamp Dogg - The White Man Made Me Do It - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, The White Man Made Me Do It, by Swamp Dogg and it's a funky soul party. Opening with funky title track, The White Man Made Me Do It, with a nod to Prince, it's Dogg on vocal and piano leads a large troupe of musicians including Moogster (keys), Charles Hayes (tenor sax), Andy Najara (bari sax), Phil Ranelin (trombone), Roy Weigind (trumpet), Steve "Stoney" Dixon (bass), Billy Haynes (bass), Lucky Lloyd Wright (guitar), Bill Barrett (trumpet), Troy Lombard (trumpet), Larry Williams (tenor sax), Michael Murphy ( organ and keys), Guitar Shorty (Lead Guitar) and Dan Weinstein (string ensemble). Lying, Lying, Lying Woman has more of an R&B sound with a driving beat. Hey Renae has a funky reggae beat and features a nice keyboard solo. Up next is Sam Cooke's, You Send Me, with a different spin on the nicely slung R&B tune. A smooth sax solo dresses this track up nicely against real nice lead vocals. Let Me Be Wrong is a cool R&B track with hot guitar riffs under the melody and hot horns. This track brings an echo of Sly Stone with it's horn vamp but really has it's own story. On classic blues track, Your Cash Ain't Nothing But Trash, with cool vocal lead and harmony the band really gets the house swinging. I'm So Happy has a nice R&B strut and clean vocals. I don't see any reference to fiddle on this track but there sure is something that sounds like a fiddle solo to me. Cool. What Lonesome Is has strong soul ballad bones and Dogg fills the lead vocal spot nicely. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah has a bit of a Motown sound with a "Temptations" feel. Where Is Sly has a funky high step sound and nice bass riffs. Lieber and Stoller composition, Smokey Joe's Cafe, saunters down the street helped along with deep sax lines. A cool guitar solo backed by organ tips this one. Light A Candle - Ring A Bell, another soul ballad has fiddle and guitar riffs punctuation strong vocals from Dogg. Predjudice Is Alive And Well has strong R&B bones and Dogg again shows his vocal prowess. Wailing guitar lead and strong bass bottom accents this track. Wrapping disc one is If That Ain't The Blues Nothing Is and a driving R&B beat. Bluesy guitar riffs and hot brass takes this track to a higher level. Disc two is a collection of Soul and Blues tracks starting with Rescue Me by Sandra Phillips. A cool R&B track with nice vocals by Phillips. Lightning Slim is up next on Good Morning Heartaches. A solid blues number, this track also features a strong horn backing and slick guitar riffs. I particularly like the vocals by Slim. Irma Thomas brings her R&B sound on strong with In Between Tears. This is a really nice track and Thomas is on top of her game. Charlie Whitehead's funky Read Between The Lines, is up next and tip top brass and low down sax makes this track rip. ZZ Hill's It Ain't No Use is a nice mixture between blues and R&B and Hill really does have a great voice. Doris Duke's blues ballad, To That Other Woman, has an almost spiritual feel and Duke really grabs it tight and shakes the emotion out of it. Very nice! Woofmoon track, What Is Heaven For, is a classic R&B track with solid horn and string backing. Swamp Dogg takes the last three tracks, Fuck The Bomb, a fast paced R&B track, and it's ultra clean piano work; Synthetic World, a classic R&B style ballad, and wrapping the release with My Life Ain't Nothing But A Blues Song. A high stepper with an almost Johhny Guitar Watson spin is a great track to complete this eclectic release.

SPINNER PREMIERES NEW ALIVE RECORDS LIVE ALBUM "ALIVE AT THE DEEP BLUES FEST" ALL THIS WEEK!

ALIVE NATURALSOUND RECORDS TO RELEASE LIVE ALBUM "ALIVE AT THE DEEP BLUES FEST" TOMORROW ON CD, DIGITAL & BBQ SAUCE RED COLORED VINYL!

ALBUM INCLUDES LIVE PERFORMANCES FROM ALIVE RECORDING ARTISTS BUFFALO KILLERS, LEE BAINS III & THE GLORY FIRES, RADIO MOSCOW, LEFT LANE CRUISER & MORE!

Earlier this summer Chris Johnson (owner of Bayport BBQ in the Twin Cities' suburb of Bayport, MN) resurrected his popular Deep Blues Festival for three glorious (sold-out) days of great music, Southern-style BBQ and camaraderie between musicians, fans and friends alike. Far from the corporate sterility of many larger modern music fests, Johnson's Deep Blues Fest instead successfully revived the communal spirit of late '60s and early '70s music gatherings, evoking the vibe of a large summer picnic with family, friends, good food and great music.

The 2012 Deep Blues Fest featured 26 bands from four countries & 16 states. Out of these acts there were seven phenomenal performances from the current Alive roster. Alive At The Deep Blues Fest is the document of these incendiary and unforgettable performances. All 13 tracks were mixed by famed Detroit producer/musician Jim Diamond, who managed to capture the loose and spontaneous feel of live albums produced in the Golden Age of rock'n'roll. Buffalo Killers and Radio Moscow turned in super heavy sets soaked in psychedelia and reverb, while Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires fiercely ripped through their show with a blistering set of songs steeped in Southern rock, R&B, soul, gospel and punk from their critically acclaimed debut LP There Is A Bomb In Gilead - an album that has been helping to define the sounds of The New South. Brian Olive and his backing band melded soulful R&B with technicolor garage-pop for their early daytime set, while the Welsh duo Henry's Funeral Shoe, Left Lane Cruiser and newcomers John The Conqueror perhaps kept closest to the Deep Blues curriculum with their respectively raunchy and heavily amplified modern interpretations of rural gutbucket Delta Blues.

To get a sense of this intimate yet electrifying festival, grab a copy of Alive At The Deep Blues Fest, invite a bunch of good friends over for some food & drink, and PLAY IT LOUD.

Alive at the Deep Blues Fest will be released November 27th through Alive Naturalsound Records in the following formats: CD, Digital and Black Vinyl with mp3 download card & poster, as well as Limited Edition "BBQ SAUCE RED" Colored Vinyl exclusive to the Bomp mail-order.

Chris Johnson and Alive Naturalsound Records will be throwing a special Alive At The Deep Blues Fest Record Release Show featuring Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires on Sat. Dec. 1st at 8:00pm at Bayport BBQ, 328 5th Ave. N., Bayport, MN

Total Destruction To Your Mind

new digital single Total Destruction To Your Mind out Nov. 30th
DEBUT ALBUM OUT NOW on CD Digipak, Vinyl & Download

(Cover photo taken at Imagination Station in Detroit by Jerry Paffendorf)
Following the critical success of their debut album, There Is A Bomb In Gilead, and lighting up music venues across the nation for the better part of the year with their incendiary live shows, Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires will be releasing their brand new digital single Total Destruction To Your Mind later this month.
Total Destruction To Your Mind is a cover of '70s psych-soul legend Swamp Dogg, and as a bonus, the Birmingham, AL foursome revisites the title track from There Is A Bomb In Gilead for a new studio version with even more impassioned fervor than the original. Both songs were produced by The Glory Fires and producer/musician Jim Diamond at Ghetto Recorders in Detroit.

("Alive at the Deep Blues Fest" Record Release Show)
It won’t be easy finding a recent set transmitting more passion or generating more soul-burnin’ BTU’s than the debut disc of this Birmingham-based four-piece. Bains’ so aptly-named band serves up a combustible blend of Southern rock and soul, the bandleader’s writing tapping deep roots as he throws down vocally with an authority well beyond his years. There’s not one slouch among the tracks on Gilead but the ballads “Reba” and “Righteous, Ragged Songs” and the raver “The Red, Red Dirt Of Home” jump out. This one ought to make more than a few “Best Of” lists this year. – Duane Verh / Roots Music Report
Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires, from Birmingham, Alabama, are technical masters of their art. Their art: out and out barnstorming Southern rock ‘n’ roll. Sharing qualities and characteristics of every critic’s favourite new band, Alabama Shakes, whom they have also toured with, The Glory Fires are more powerful, more faithful to the southern sound of the USA and carry an unrivalled authenticity. – Redbrick
This is rock ‘n’ roll from the South, dirty and distinguished, polished (but not too much) to a Motor City shine. Fresh, soulful, assured, There is a Bomb in Gilead is damn fine debut from Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires. – Steve Wilson / Reverberations

Waves Of Fury debut album available now from our mail-order

debut album "Thirst" available now from the mailorder

Sounds like a forgotten gem from the Ace Records catalogue, but it's brand new.
– Artrocker
An unholy alliance of scowling, snarling vocals, sleazy guitar licks, Motown horns, and
high octane percussion. – The Mad Mackerel
They have found a way to reconcile their twin passions: Stooges and Stax, garage and soul, rock'n'roll's trash aesthetic and the exuberance and jubilation of old-style R&B.
– The Guardian
A damn fine piece of contemporary rock & soul with a burning flame of Spiritualized and The Mary Chain at its core. – Female First
Waves Of Fury's 'Thirst' delivers a unique and fresh sonic experience. – Rustzine
Never before would I have thought that The Sex Pistols should have collaborated with Marvin Gaye! – Altsounds
Soul music often seemed to reach for the divine, but paradoxically, Thirst through its
raw execution, seems to sink its arms deep down down into the Earth. – Punknews
Kind of The Fall meets The Commitments. – Q The Music

John The Conqueror available now from our mail-order

S/T debut album available now from the mailorder

John The Conqueror’s self-titled debut album is an amalgamation of the many sounds and styles (old and new) mined from both the North and the South. Cousins Pierre Moore (vocals & guitar) and Michael Gardner (drums) are natives of Jackson, MS, while bassist Ryan Lynn hails from Philly – where the trio now call home. Together they mix a bedrock of raw deep blues with funk, soul, punk and scuzzed-up rock-n-roll into one helluva potent musical Molotov cocktail. Moore and Gardner have been playing together in bands since their college days in Oxford, MS, and Moore learned to play guitar in his early teens from a homeless man called John Doe who slept in the back room of an auto repair shop.
"The trio from Mississippi, now based in Philly, have the smoothness of classic 50’s soul mixed with a southern twang." – Knuckle Rumbler
"It’s all smokestacks, greasy ball bearings, mudslides, and corn liquor swilled from mason jars; raggedly scorching guitar riffs, a thunderous rhythm section, and howled vocals. ‘Say What You Want’ rockets me off my rear every time." – Brian Greene / Happening Magazine
"Leader Pierre Moore has a matter-of-fact singing voice, tasteful six-string skills and a tuneful writing style that balances licks and melody and avoids classic rock overload."
– Michael Toland / The Big Takeover.
"They will bring you from the church to the juke joint in four quick minutes." – Mad Chicago
"John The Conqueror's new LP is downright street smart funky."
– Jeffrey Morgan's Media Blackout.
"Pierre Moore is a charismatic frontman, strutting the stage, ripping away at guitar licks and belting out dynamic vocals. Joining Moore are his cousin Michael Gardner, a force of nature on drums, and local guy Ryan Lynn, who brings a rumbling low end to the mix." – The Key WXPN
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson If you support live Blues acts, up and coming Blues talents and want to learn more about Blues news and Fathers of the Blues, Like ---Bman’s Blues Report--- Facebook Page! Andre Williams new album 'Life' out today

LIFE out today on CD Digipack, Vinyl & Download

Andre Williams’ new album, Life is absolutely stunning. – Brett Calwood / Detroit Metro Times
Life is packed with funky, old school blues. – Mary Leary / MOKB
Life is a triumph from start to finish, and one of the year’s best records. – The Record Changer
If Williams is sounding a little more grounded than he did on Silky or The Black Godfather, he’s still a tough, funky, jive talker who can draw some potent, guitar-based funk from the band of Detroit indie stalwarts who back him up. Matthew Smith produced Life, co-wrote most of the songs with Williams, and anchors the backing band (along with Jim Diamond on bass and David Shettler on drums), and the results are lean, greasy, early-’70s-style tunes with a subtle but potent psychedelic undercurrent, and they give Williams an effective backdrop as he declaims on his troubles with women, cash, and animal-haters, as well as singing the praises of high heels. – Mark Deming / All Music Guide

BUFFALO KILLERS new album
"DIG. SOW. LOVE. GROW." out on CD, VINYL & Download

Oct. 4 @ Grog Shop – Cleveland, OH w/The Sheepdogs
Oct. 5 @ The Shelter – Detroit, M w/The Sheepdogs
Oct. 6 @ Double Door – Chicago, IL w/The Sheepdogs
Oct. 7 @ 7th Street Entry – Minneapolis, MN w/The Sheepdogs

Nov 3 @ Metro Kitchen – Annapolis MD w/Hollis Brown
Nov 4 @ Milkboy – Philadelphia, PA w/Hollis Brown
Nov 15 @ Radio Radio – Indianapolis, IN w/Hollis Brown

Buffalo Killers sound just as American as their name. Brothers Zachary and Andrew Gabbard, plus Joseph Sebaali, bring the full-force blues rock. “Get It,” off "Dig. Sow. Love. Grow"., is gritty, loud and will no doubt beg the comparison to a handful of contemporary blues-rock bands like former tourmates the Black Keys and the North Mississippi Allstars. – Magnet
"Dig. Sow. Love. Grow." isn’t just another retro-sounding album that mimics bands of yesteryear. It’s a raw, real and commanding sound forged from grit that is as wide and expansive as the western plains, and is as mighty as it’s namesake. – Marquee Magazine
An organic summer stoner sound that's at once familiar and fresh.– Shindig!
They may not hail from the depths of Dixie, but Ohio-based beardy trio Buffalo Killers' roots stretch down to Kentucky, and they embody the sun-soaked south – not only in the hazy twangs of their 70s-style grooves, but also in their laid-back livin' and organic approach to music.– Classic Rock

Andre Williams new album and video

ANDRE WILLIAMS new album 'Life' out October 2nd
on CD Digipak, Vinyl & Download

Single "Blame It On Obama" available now for download
"A tongue-in-cheek commentary on the tendency of voters (particularly those of a right-wing persuasion) to blame pretty much anything and everything on the president. It’s really rather great." – Flavorwire

"The legendary Andre Williams has put out a video for the song 'Blame it on Obama', which apparently caused a heap of controversy due to people getting all het up before actually
listening to the song, which happens to be pro the President. It’s a slinky little number too. Williams’ tongue is firmly in his cheek when he blames his wife’s aging appearance on Obama.
His wit is still as sharp as ever." – Detroit Metro Times

"A fascinating new Andre Williams tune. It's called 'Blame It on Obama,' and it's a peach.
A rotten, sticky peach, perhaps—but peachy nonetheless." – Portland Mercury

Bman's Exclusive with Alive Naturalsound Founder, Patrick Boissel

Bman: Hi Patrick. Thanks for taking time out from your busy schedule to talk with me. It's great to have the opportunity to talk with someone who has your reputation in the Indie music scene!

Patrick:Thanks for the opportunity, I'm sure you're busy yourself.

Bman: I am but no one seems to think so! I just had the opportunity to review Alive's new release, "Where's Parker Griggs?". I really appreciate what you're doing. How do you typically find the artists for your label?

Patrick:We usually get a fair amount of demos every week and I try to listen to everything. That's how I signed The Black Keys, Buffalo Killers, Henry's Funeral Shoe, and Black Diamond Heavies. Other times the bands are directed to us by friends or artists that are, or used to be, on the label.

Bman: I have been a long time vinyl collector and really have an appreciation for the difference in sound quality from vinyl to digital. What percentage of your sales is on vinyl?

Patrick:Vinyl sales seem to be proportional to the success of the release. I say "seem" because there's no rule that you can follow. Vinyl can represent up to half the sales of a new artist, but the figure often changes, depending on the release. The vinyl sales decrease drastically if the release does well, as a larger, younger audience tends to get the CD or the download instead of the vinyl.

Bman: That's a shame because they don't know what they're missing. It's really cool that you still put so much thought into the covers and go with the colored vinyl and everything. I mean I think that the industry loses a lot of the tactile association with the listener without the LP. I remember looking for years for just the right covers and colored vinyl years back. I mean it had to be the right cover and the right vinyl. It looks cool...interesting and also sounds much better than digital!

Patrick:I grew up listening to LPs, it's a format I am fond of. I do believe it sounds better, and warmer. Nothing much has changed for us, really, we have done vinyl for a long time, we're not planning on stopping anytime soon.

Bman: I notice a substantial difference in my listening habits when listening to an lp versus a cd versus digital download. With an lp I have a tendency to sit back and study the details of the cover and look at all the artists etc. With a cd I occasionally look at the cover to reference a particular thing that I notice. With a digital download I rarely ever look at the product! I bet you already new that! I suspect that the basic listener has never even heard an analog recording and has no idea what they are missing. I really appreciate what you're doing.

Patrick: I agree, there's an emotional connection with analog that doesn't exist with the digital. In fact most rock albums are recorded partially analog these days. It seems that vinyl has become a hip format, vinyl-only stores are now popping up, even big boxes such as Urban Outfitters and Best Buy carry LPs these days.

Bman: I know that i pods are remarkably convenient. You've been associate with some pretty big artists but always with an edge. I noted that you did some Sun Ra releases. I am scheduled to interview a famous 60's record cover/poster artist in about a week. This guys did some really outrageous stuff including a couple of the old Sun Ra records as well as the Godz and the Fugs. I can't wait personally! I think that the record cover is a big part of the puzzle.

Patrick: Not too long ago album covers were more than a clever pun or a mere marketing tool, they were artistic statements in their own right, it's not the case anymore. The Sun Ra releases that you're talking about were out on John Sinclair's label. Working with John was a great experience, I can honestly say that he turned me on to avant-jazz, a world beyond pop and swing that I knew nothing about.

Bman: I'm anxious for this artist interview. The covers that he did are outrageous and his artwork has grown.
I remember when you came out with the Black Keys release. I was floored. That record was /is great! What an ear to pick up on that! I remember telling a number of people about it and they said ,... ah yeah. Now they are on every tv commercial and everything!

Patrick: They have achieved success on their own terms. They deserve every bit of it. Plus someone needs to save rock'n'roll from time to time!

Bman: I like that! Save Rock and Roll!!! I keep hearing keeping the blues alive and I think how ridiculous...but you actually have a valid point there. In listening to the "Where's Parker Griggs?" compilation and I particularly noticed Radio Moscow and White Noise Sound. Do you have anything planned for these bands soon?

Patrick:
White Noise Sound are a Welch psychedelic band, the song on the comp comes from their debut album which we released last year. It was done with the collaboration of Cian from Super Furry Animals. I'd love to do another album with them, but there's nothing planned for now. I have already released three Radio Moscow albums. We're soon releasing Parker's first album, recorded back when he was 17 and previously unheard by most people. It's called "3 & 3 Quarters" and it's way more sixties garage than his current releases.

Bman: That sounds very cool. I'll be checking into that...and I am definitely looking for a copy of the WNS cd. So what's next for Alive Records and Patrick Boissel?

Partick: I'm excited about the Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires debut album that we're releasing this Spring.

Bman: I'll look forward to getting an advance copy for review. I really appreciate your time. Is there anything else that you'd like to share with your listeners?

Patrick: Have you seen Parker Griggs lately? Thank you!

Bman: Thanks again Patrick for your time and I'll look forward to talking with you soon.

Radio Moscow frontman Parker Griggs after receiving 14 stitches to the forehead last Saturday night.

Hostile screaming. Projectile guitars. Open head-wounds. And plenty of blood. Radio Moscow's live shows have long been known to be explosive, but last Saturday night at the start of their North American tour the band, unintentionally, took it to new heights as they had a physical meltdown onstage during their hometown record release show in Ames, IA.

With internal friction between the threesome at a fever-pitch, the band made it to the final song of their setlist before things came to a head. Literally. The drummer grabbed frontman Parker Griggs guitar and, according to Griggs, hurled it as hard as he could at the guitarist, leaving a gaping wound in his forehead and blood everywhere. Griggs was then rushed to the local emergency room, where he received 14 stitches.

Needless to say that was the end of this particular incarnation of Radio Moscow (but then Parker always has toured with an ever-changing set of guitarists and drummers in the past, not to mention that he plays all of the instruments on Radio Moscow's albums). With only one day before their Chicago show, Griggs enlisted two new musicians into the band - bassist Billy Ellsworth from San Diego and drummer Lonnie Blanton from Salt Lake City, who flew into Chicago yesterday and arrived at the venue just hours before their gig. Radio Moscow is reborn and once again ready to rock the nation... hopefully now with a lot less bloodshed.

Radio Moscow are on tour (with Swedish rockers Graveyard) in support of their new full-length The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz on Alive Naturalsound Records.

And in other related Radio Moscow-related news, today marks the release of Alive Records' new label compilation entitled Where Is Parker Griggs? featuring exclusive material from HACIENDA, RADIO MOSCOW, BUFFALO KILLERS, BLACK DIAMOND HEAVIES and more. This compilation showcases the many facets of this respected L.A.-based indie imprint, founded by Patrick Boissel 17 years ago. From garage rock, psych, punk, deep blues and Tejas garage-soul, Where Is Parker Griggs? is an impressive overview of some of the new blood currently pumping through Alive - the first label to have the taste and insight to sign not only The Black Keys and Two Gallants, but all of the remarkable acts on this collection, along with many others. This album also features an early preview from Alive's latest signing, the rootsy psyouthern soul of Birmingham, AL rock quartet LEE BAINS III & THE GLORY FIRES, whose full-length debut lands April 2012.

Where Is Parker Griggs? is out today as a 180 GRAM VINYL Ltd. Edition and Digital download, the latter which also features two additional bonus tracks from LEFT LANE CRUISER and THE BLOODY HOLLIES.

HERE'S WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT RADIO MOSCOW'S RECENT ALBUM THE GREAT ESCAPE OF LESLIE MAGNAFUZZ:

“Fifty minutes of psyche-rock fireworks…. like spending an evening with Jimi Hendrix, Cream, ZZ Top, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy and The Black Keys.” - ROLLING STONE

“Over the course of two records (their self-titled debut and their superb stoner rock knockout Brain Cycles), Parker Griggs and Zach Anderson have forged a tripped-out landscape that has taken them to mainstream, if not hipster, appeal. The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz firmly feeds from the teat of late sixties and seventies Nuggets comp forefathers, vocal effects and hallucinogens dripping from the speakers and the psychedelic, heavy, effects-driven guitar of Griggs will either win new converts to the Radio Moscow love-in or make some super stoned fans very happy. Either way, the platter's a winner.” – BLURT MAGAZINE
"Californian-based band lovingly concoct a Cream/Hendrix inspired album of cosmic blues. Mainman Parker Griggs is a great guitarist and he’s clearly having a ball.... exhilarating stuff." - THE DAILY TELEGRAPH / UK

“Rock music as the gods intended.” – AMES TRIBUNE

“With the release of the third LP, The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz, Radio Moscow bring their original brand of hard blues rock with a psychedelic tinge and take it to new heights.” - GHETTOBLASTER MAGAZINE

“Few bands can compete with the fury of Parker Grigg’s agile, furious funk guitar, and with each Radio Moscow release, it seems he becomes an even more charismatic performer. The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz ditches the high-fidelity sound of Brain Cycles and instead focuses on Grigg’s impressive improvisational skills. The compositions on this album are wild and ambitious, breaking out into hysterical jamming that never sounds forced, because everything the man plays sounds so damn smooth. Keep an eye out for these guys… they put on a killer show.” – SLUG MAGAZINE

“Superb third album from Akron, Ohio-based blues rock band Radio Moscow, who take the sounds of Jimi Hendrix and Cream and completely refresh them.” – PENNY BLACK MUSIC / UK

“Psychedelic, acid-laced guitar-based rock that will shake you to your soul.” - MUSIC SAVAGE

“Radio Moscow is as close as you can get to the dirty, growling and honest heart of power trio rock without a DeLorean. The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz is a victory for Radio Moscow in general and Parker Griggs in particular. The Story City, IA front man is possibly the most singularly gifted guitarist working today. This is your father’s rock, in all the best ways.” – CITYVIEW / DES MOINES

“A bona fide blues-meets-psych-rock staple.”- SALT LAKE CITY WEEKLY

“Radio Moscow has released three albums blending blues and hard stoner rock on Alive Natural Sound Records, but in contrast with label-mates The Black Keys and Left Lane Cruiser, they add a potent psychedelic sound to the mix, bringing to mind late ‘60s/early ‘70s bands such as Blue Cheer, Hawkwind, Flower Travellin’ Band and Cream.” – SSG MUSIC

The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz is a piping hot batch of overdriven, wah-wah and THC-soaked jams and is Paker Grigg’s homage to the heavier sounds of the Age of Aquarius. Radio Moscow's music is a bottom-heavy blues-bomb, with grooves that recall MC 5 and the contemporary Black Mountain, and shredding like a more structurally minded Jack White, with each note bleeding into the next under a sea of overdrive.” - GOOD TIMES WEEKLY

“Parker Griggs and his band take it to the next level of power-trio psychedelic blues-rock with their third album, The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz. The album opens in full hypersonic stride, with the bass and drums threatening to run away from the ear-clearing wails of Parker’s fuzzed guitar, and the bombast doesn’t let up until disc’s end. There are a few production touches – stereo pans, phase effects and feedback – but the bulk of the album is straightforward, take-no-prisoners hard rock.” - HYPERBOLIUM

“A solid collection of blues-metal-psych-boogie for your buck. Not much for pondering their navels or gazing at their shoelaces, Parker Griggs and company pound out rock and roll with chops, foot firmly on the fuzz/wah pedal and stop-on-a-dime dynamics… the results are gratifying.” - LOS GRILLOS

“Radio Moscow bleeds Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience. They are not a normal blues group. They are not a normal psychedelic stoner-rock group. They are Radio Moscow, and this album cements their sound and place as an eclectic group in today's music scene.” - ALL CAMPUS RADIO NETWORK

“If you’re into blues, classic rock, Led Zeppelin or Jimi Hendrix then this record is about to send you to heaven. The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz is just another gem to add to the amazing collection of this band.” - DR. DOOM’S LAIR

“Radio Moscow are aficionados of the golden age of dusty rock, and clearly proud to admit it. There’s no hint of any of that sad-sack ‘ironic’ nostalgia at work here; this is the real deal, delivered with due reverence and plenty of enthusiasm. The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz starts off with a hiss and a roar and never really lets up. It reverberates with stacks of thunderous fundamental riffs that have been twisted into some hard-rockin’, good-times, prehistoric metal. Do yourself a big favour and seek this one out immediately. I’m off to invest in their first few albums; you best do the same, brother.” – MANUAL MAGAZINE / NEW ZEALAND

“A muscular combination of effects, feedback, and sound-towers that makes for a bracing listen next to Hendrix, Blue Cheer, and Robin Trower.” – DAGGERZINE

“The band has a style and rhythm reminiscent of Blue Cheer and MC5, but with—believe it or not—more impressive guitar work. For those desiring music with layers, Radio Moscow is every bit as bluesy as it is early garage.” – SANTA FE REPORTER

“If you’re fond of classic grooves from acts like 10 Years After, Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, these guys are definitely worth checking out.” – IDAHO STATESMAN

[4/5 stars] “A rocker's fantasy… Radio Moscow's new album The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz encloses music of unabashed retro-rock that evokes the late ‘60s era of JimI Hendrix and psychedelic blues-rock, and provides a musical renaissance in today's rock music dominated by indie and alternative bands." - THE HIGHLANDER

“Ames, Iowa's Radio Moscow possess big, fuzzy riffs, a drummer who makes the full use of his toms, and a vocalist who may or may not have time traveled here from the Summer of Love. This is some sprawling stuff and all expertly executed. A rock blowout.” - THE STRANGER WEEKLY / SEATTLE

“This album comes on like an unholy mix of Blue Cheer and The Black Keys.” – ELECTRIC GHOST MONTHLY / UK

“Filled with delicious, heavy and spacy guitar solos. It rocks, hard, but is plenty psychedelic. These guys are completely and unapologetically committed to a heavy rock sound. I could throw enticing influences (Blue Cheer, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath) at you all day, and continue to play the Black Keys card, if that would induce you to give a listen. If you're not familiar with their previous records, and you like this sound at all, you’re in for a treat.” - WHEN YOU MOTOR AWAY

“Cream would be proud. And if Hendrix were alive, he’d be honored. This power-trio created by two children of the corn, and a Colorado add-on create some of the most energetic music I’ve heard in a while. With a mix of traditional blues rhythms, upbeat boogie, psychedelic pedal effects, and cataclysmic solos that can peel the paint off the walls, the music that Radio Moscow produces is truly a jaw-dropping experience.” - TYMPANOGRAM

“Perfect for dirty, caveman garage-rock thrashing… Radio Moscow will rock your face off.” - LISTEN, DAMNIT

“Craving something raucous and loud? These psychedelic blues rockers continually put out underrated records that are awe-inspiring and thunderous, including their third studio album The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz (what a ridiculously fantastic title).” - PAX AMERICANA

“Now a full-fledged power trio, Radio Moscow prove conclusively that they’ve attained the honour of being lauded as the spawn of Cream and Blue Cheer. Retrogressive? Possibly, but there’s plenty of honest frustration in these riffs.” - HEARTBREAK TRAIL

“This heavy trio breathes the essence of drugged-out hard thumping rock and roll music. If the initial screech of Parker Griggs’ guitar doesn’t tell you that in the first 10 seconds, you aren’t listening. Radio Moscow is prepping their third release titled The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz, a title so befitting of their soundscape. Its fuzzy, screeching, ‘60s hard rock and roll. Griggs’ musicianship should be heralded in this fashion, he puts together some of the most ridiculous acid-laced guitar soloing. He’s remarkable. These guys set the bar for retro psych hard rock; and its really exciting to get to hear more from them.” - MUSIC SAVAGE

“Explosive live performances.” - DESERET NEWS / SALT LAKE CITY
