Bman's Blues Report

Devil Blues are a blues outfit from Białystok, Poland. The band was co-founded by Sebastian Kozlowski, a very talented guitarist. He plays in Devil Blues with Krzysiek Gorczak (vocal), Kamil Lickiewicz (drums) and Jacek Kaczynski (bass guitar). The band’s music corresponds closely to the modern sound of blues rock. Apart from playing the standards by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmi Hendrix, or BB King they perform many of their own pieces. Year 2006 was extremely successful for the band as it won most competitions they participated in and attained wide recognition of the critics and fans. Their debut album “Democratic session) was also released in 2006. “Twój Blues” magazine’s readers chose the band a “discovery of the year”. On the 30th of 2008 the band played a live gig in studio Rembrandt of Bialystok Polish Radio and the registered material was released on the album entitled: “Alive”. 1. Mississippi Blues" was founded in 1991 by Marek Kędzia (harp) and Mirosław "Miras" Stanisławowicz (guit, voc). Shortly afterwards, violinist Mikołaj Kraszewski joined the band. It became an anecdote that "Mississippi Blues" played their first concert in a whorehouse, thus maintaining infamous traditions of American musicians who used to play in saloons. "Mississippi Blues" have since concentrated on Chicago and Delta Mississippi Blues. During the past several years the band cooperated with a row of acclaimed Polish blues musicians, to name just Zbigniew "Oliver" Łaski (Mietek Blues Band) or Igor Łojko (Good Morning Blues). Michał “Cie­lak” Kie­lak (ur. 6 listo­pada 1977 w Pozna­niu) — pol­ski muzyk blu­esowy, gra­ją­cych na har­mo­nijce ust­nej. Instru­men­tem tym zain­te­re­so­wał się w wieku 15 lat, rok póź­niej 1993 dosko­na­lił umie­jęt­no­ści na warsz­ta­tach blu­eso­wych w Zakrze­wie. Łukasz Wiśniewski is regarded as one of the best harmonica players in Poland, numerously awarded for his playing skills on festivals and contests. He is also a charismatic singer with a strong, deep voice. Leader of a blues-rock band Blue Machine and soloist in subtle, quiet Limbo. Playing in Hard Times he shows himself as a musician perfectly fitting the acoustic, laid back style. As a renowned harmonica teacher he collaborates with the greatest players in Poland and organizes regular harmonica workshops. Piotr Grząślewicz is very talented and versatile young guitarist, at the age of only 20 he joined Cracow-based top jazz outfit - Funk de Nite. Currently he is also a member of Blue Machine and collaborates with plenty of other bands. "Kasa Chorych” (meaning HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANY) is the real legend of Polish blues-rock. The band was started in 1975 by Ryszard “Skiba” Skibinski (who played harmonica) and the guitarist Jaroslaw Tioskow. At the beginning they played in small clubs round Bialystok. The crucial moment of their career was the year 1978. They participated in the most important Polish rock festivals, they also gained many first prizes and were welcomed enthusiastically by the public as well. All these factors made them extremely popular all around the country. In 1978 they recorded their first songs for the local radio station. In 1980 their debut single track appeared. It was delivered by the private sources to the U.S.A and soon it was on the third position in the annual questionnaire of the WRJC-FM radio station in Baltimore. W 1975 roku dwójka nawiedzonych bluesem muzyków z Białegostoku - Ryszard "Skiba" Skibiński i Jarosław Tioskow - postanowiła założyć zespół zgodny z ich muzycznymi fascynacjami. Po kilku tygodniach dołączył do nich perkusista Mirosław Kozioł. Wkrótce zaprosili do współpracy kolegów i pod nazwą Kasa Chorych-Blues wystartowali w 1976 r. pod patronatem białostockiego Akademickiego Centrum Kultury. W skład grupy wchodzili wówczas: R. Skibiński (ur. 20.01.1951 r., zm. 4.06.1983 r.; hca, kazoo), J. Tioskow (ur. 30.07.1955 r.;g); Andrzej Kotarski (g); Zbigniew Richter (bg); Andrzej Pala (p); M. Kozioł (ur. 5.04.1954 r.; dr). Niebawem, dzięki współpracy z Miejskim Domem Kultury, zespół otrzymał nowy sprzęt oraz dogodne warunki do pracy.
