Overton Music artist: Russ Green - Stone Cold - New Release Review

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Stone Cold , from Russ Green , and it's a driving blues rocker. Opening with Lint Redux , you are immediately in the middle of a swampy blues with modern effects. With a firm foot stomp by Felix Pollard on drums and Vic Jackson on bass Russ Green on harmonica and vocals really has the earthy feel. Giles Corey on slide gives the track great grease and Green's harp work is strong. Excellent opener. 12 Feet of Water opens with a terrific harmonica aria before grinding into a super drum driven romp. With the feel that I can only describe as Hill Country , Green delivers such soulful vocals, comforted by Joe Monroe on keys, this track just grabs you. Green's harmonica is like a shuddering wind blowing through you with the thumping bass of Vic Jackson and Vince Agwada on guitar. Excellent! MoMojo Records artist: Allison August - August Moon - New Release Review

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, August Moon , by Allison August and it's funky and sassy. Opening with Afraid of Love , Allison August shows what a great lead vocalist does and with excellent backing vocals by Maxayn Lewis and Jen Caston on, tight drum rhythm by Bryan Head, David J. Carpenter on bass, Sam Meek on guitar, Lenny Castro on percussion, Joe Sublett on sax, Les Lovitt on trumpet and Sam Meek on guitars, this track is tight! Sugaray Rayford joins August on lead vocals on I Won't Say No with a charging drum/percussion line by Tony Braunagel and Castro and a slashing guitar lead by Meek accented by Mike Finnegan on organ. Top radio track selection is Desiree with it's warm, memorable melody and vocal/keyboard interplay between August, Teresa James and Gregg Sutton and  Finnegan. Very nice. Funky Joint / 335 Records artist: Brothers Brown - Dusty Road - New Release Review

I just received the newest release (March 28, 2016), Dusty Road , from Brothers Brown and it's quite good. Opening with Cup Of Tea , Paul Brown (LA) on guitar and Paul Brown (Nashville) on keys and both on vocals show a polished jazzy pop opener with a country rock twist. Joined by David Santos on bass and Pete Young, this is is a great start including a solid melody and JJ Cale/Clapton like guitar riffs. On bluesy ballad, Love Sake has more of a laid back Steeley Dan feel featuring nice key work from Nashville Brown and cool guitar riffs from LA Brown with nice vocal blending. Sweet Cadillac has a bit of funk stirred in with hip bongo work from Brown. This track has a real nice groove reinforced by a funky guitar rhythm and lead and warm organ ride. Very cool! When All Is Said And Done has a bit of country sewed in again but with a jazzy bottom. Lead guitar riffs by LA Brown are real fine and Nashville brown's key strokes are nicely woven under the lead vocals. Can'...

Paul Barrere (born July 3, 1948, Burbank, California, United States) is a current member of the band Little Feat, founded in 1969 by Lowell George and Bill Payne, having joined the band in 1972.[1] Barrere has also recorded and performed with many notable musicians including Chicken Legs, Blues Busters, (featuring Catfish Hodge), Valerie Carter, Helen Watson, Chico Hamilton, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Palmer, Eikichi Yazawa, and Carly Simon. Paul can clearly be seen in the 1979 Nicolette Larson Warner Brothers promotional video of "Lotta Love", sporting his infamous squared-off tailed shirts! Some of Barrere's best known contributions to Little Feat as a songwriter include "Skin It Back", and "Feats Don't Fail Me Now" from the album Feats Don't Fail Me Now, "All That You Dream" from The Last Record Album, "Time Loves a Hero" from Time Loves a Hero, and "Down on the Farm" from Down on the Farm.
