Alligator Records artist: Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials - Slideways - New Release Review

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Slideways , from Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials and it's terrific! Opening with Bad All By Myself , Lil' Ed on lead guitar and vocal, gets things rocking right off the bat. With Michael Garrett playing a strong rhythm line reinforced by James "Pookie" Young and Kelly Littleton on drums, this is a great opener. The Flirt In The Car Wash Skirt is a great blues rocker with raucous slide work by Lil' Ed and Ben Levin on piano really gets this track boogieing. Vital rhythm guitar work by Garrett and a rock solid bottom makes this one of my favorites on the release. Elmore James flavored, 13th Street And Trouble , is a strong track with a pounding bottom and super piano work by Levin. Lil' Ed has this track by the short hairs and is really shaking it. Cooking! Laid back Chicago blues , More Time , has solid pacing and features Lil' Ed upfront on lead vocal. Garrett showcases his lead gui...

Memphis International Records artist: Ann Peebles & the Hi Rhythm Section - Live In Memphis - New Release Review

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Live In Memphis , from Ann Peebles & the Hi Rhythm Section and it's a cool, live, soul packed R&B release. Opening with If I Can't See You , Peebles on lead vocal sets the pace with her smooth delivery and backed by  David J Hudson and Tina Crawford on vocal, John Sangster on sax, Anthony Royal on trumpet, Dennis Bates on trombone, Leroy Hodges on bass, Charles Hodges on keys, Howard Grimes on drums and Thomas Bingham on guitar. Rolling into high stepper, Part Time Love , Peebles really has the groove moving. With a super bass line by Hodges and punchy trumpet by Royal, this is one of my favorite tracks on the release. An excellent cover of I Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody's Home plays right into Peeble's wheelhouse. The horn work by Sangster, Royal and Bates really add balance to Peebles' lead. Memphis International Records artists: The Dinallos - The Dinallos - New Release Review

  I just had the opportunity to review the most recent self titled release by The Dinallos and it's interesting and diverse. Opening with a cool instrumental, All The Ponies Go 'Round (Danny's Lullaby) , Michael Dinallo on guitar, Jim Gambino on keys, Dave Jacques on bass, Justin Armaral on drums, and Mike McAdam on guitars create a very inviting opener. The track has a beautiful lushness to it, with a simple yet creamy guitar harmony. Very nice. Folk rocker, Lemonade, features Annabel Dinello on lead vocal in harmony with Juliet Simmons Dinello creating a Breeders like vocal sound with some cool Nashville style guitar picking. Very cool. Country flavored, Purgatory Road features a solid duet between Juliet and Will Kimbrough. With a contemporary turn around and inclusive of Aaron Till on fiddle and Gambino on accordion, this is a promising radio track.
