Cecile Doo-Kingue - Anybody Listening Pt. 1: Monologues - New release review
I just received the newest release, Anybody Listening Pt. 1: Monologues from Cecile Doo-Kingue and it's different and entertaining. Opening with Make Me , a modern jazz styled folk tune with a strong clever message. CDK alone on vocal, guitar and tambourine. Possibly radio restricted for language or subject, this is a great radio (strong memorable melody) track. Third World Child has warm guitar melodies and overall sounds like a tune that would have been penned by James Taylor or other well known solo acoustic vocalists. Very nice. Six Letters has a strong blues root including rudimentary acoustic slide work. A solid delta style boot stomper, this track is spot on. Little Bit is another really well constructed track with a catchy pop style melody. CDK, always with the solid guitar rhythm and distinctive vocal style takes this track off on a little loose jazz riff. Nice! Home has a really nice acoustic folk jazz feel and snappy guitar riffs.
