Zac Harmon & The Drive - Live - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Live , from Zac Harmon & The Drive and it's super! Opening with soulful, NTRO , Nate Robinson on bass and Gino Iglehart on drums set a solid foundation, with Corey Lacy building on keys and lush guitar work by Zac Harmon and Kingston Livingston really setting the bar. Terrific opener. Blue Pill Thrill has super movement and soulful vocals by Harmon. Lacy on keys works the rhythm with Robinson and Iglehart and Livingston and and Harmon play stinging riffs on guitar really giving this track some kick. Deep blues track, Feet Back On The Ground features Albert King like stinging riffs and super soulful vocals by Harmon. Keeping the music floor low allows Harmon plenty of space to go dynamically from soft to wow quickly adding real emotion to the track. Excellent! Boogie Down is a strong jam with a firm piano base by Lacy giving Harmon plenty of headroom for vocal corralling. Lacy lays in some real tasty keyboar...

I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Little Wing - Los Lobos

Los Lobos ("The Wolves") are a multiple Grammy Award–winning American Chicano rock band from East Los Angeles, California. Their music is influenced by rock and roll, Tex-Mex, country, folk, R&B, blues, brown-eyed soul, and traditional Spanish and Mexican music such as cumbia, boleros and norteños. The Mexican-American roots-rock group Los Lobos has been performing and releasing records since the second half of 1970s. Los Lobos released an independent LP in 1978 and an EP in 1983. More than three decades have passed since Los Lobos released their debut album titled Just Another Band from East L.A. Their first major-label, critically acclaimed release was 1984's T-Bone Burnett-produced How Will the Wolf Survive? The film Colors includes "One Time, One Night" in the opening credits although the song was not included on the soundtrack album. Elam McKnight & Bob Bogdal

Image
They’ve made quite a name for themselves as individual musicians, but now Elam McKnight and Bob Bogdal have teamed up to release Zombie Nation, a debut album that melds the rural Mississippi blues of the Delta with the hard-charging electric style of the Hill Country. “They say the first step in a journey is the most important, and that’s the approach we’re taking with this album,” says McKnight. “As a songwriter, you are constantly creating material. I have all kinds of songs that, before, I might not have felt they fit the direction I was going. But now, their time has come to be heard.” Both McKnight and Bogdal bring impressive credentials to their partnership. McKnight’s solo debut, 2003’s Braid My Hair, was hailed by critics as a breath of fresh air in the sometimes-stale climate that is predictable “bar band” blues, while his second album, 2005’s The Last Country Store, found a spot on many blues charts internationally and in America. McKnight’s most recent release, 2007’s Supa G...

How Blue Can You Get - Summer & the Sinners

Image
From Texas to New Orleans, to Chicago, with a stop in Memphis, Summer and the Sinners take you on a musical tour of Blues, R&B, and Funk. Sliding easily between, “Stax” and “Straight Texas Boogie.” With a great choice of songs, Line-up of musicians, and Summers Voice…you know you’ve got something special! The new album "Boogie With The Devil" is certain to raise the stature of both Summer and her Sinners. Hot on the heels of "Stranger's Blues", Summer and the Sinner's have produced another great one! Big-voiced Summer and her band, the Sinners, are a definite "cool breeze" from the Great White North! Based in British Columbia, Summer and the Sinners pound out a brand of blues that took us back to our beginnings of listening to the blues, back in the early Seventies. Summer can really get one's attention with that sly, sexy, sultry growl in her delivery. Backed by some of the west coast's finest... these guys will give you that "ol...
