One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

The Stumble - Gary Moore

Image
Robert William Gary Moore (4 April 1952 – 6 February 2011), better known simply as Gary Moore, was a Northern Irish musician from Belfast, best recognized as a blues rock guitarist and singer. In a career dating back to the 1960s, Moore played with artists including Phil Lynott and Brian Downey during his teens, leading him to membership with the Irish rock band Thin Lizzy on three separate occasions. Moore shared the stage with such blues and rock luminaries as B.B. King, Albert King, Colosseum II, Greg Lake and Skid Row (not to be confused with the heavy metal band of the same name), as well as having a successful solo career. He guested on a number of albums recorded by high profile musicians, including a cameo appearance playing the lead guitar solo on "She's My Baby" from Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3. Moore died of a heart attack in his hotel room while on holiday in Estepona, Spain, in February 2011

Roundhouse Blues - BIG SHOT REUB & THE RELOADERS - New cd Review

Image
This is a new band to me and I gotta tell you there is some really great things happening here. The song that is shown in the promo video attached demonstrates the best and worst of the cd. The guitar playing is really tasty and I have listened to the cd multiple times. On the other hand, like on this particular song, I don't care for the vocals. Overall the recording is first class and the music is really interesting. Some really cool guitar work going on. The few spots where I notice the vocal intrusion doesn't tarnish my overall feeling about the cd. I really think you should give it a listen. Enjoy!

Did Robert Johnson really sell his soul?

Image
Robert Leroy Johnson (May 8, 1911 – August 16, 1938) was an American blues singer and musician. His landmark recordings from 1936–1937 display a combination of singing, guitar skills, and songwriting talent that have influenced later generations of musicians. Johnson's shadowy, poorly documented life and death at age 27 have given rise to much legend, including a Faustian myth. As an itinerant performer who played mostly on street corners, in juke joints, and at Saturday night dances, Johnson enjoyed little commercial success or public recognition in his lifetime. His records sold poorly during his lifetime, and it was only after the first reissue of his recordings on LP in 1961 that his work reached a wider audience. Johnson is now recognized as a master of the blues, particularly of the Delta blues style. He is credited by many rock musicians as an important influence; Eric Clapton has called Johnson "the most important blues singer that ever lived". Johnson was inducte...

Lonesome Traveller - Kim Simmonds with Tommy Fyfe and The Whiskey River Blues Band

Image
Kim Simmonds is absolutely one of the most underrated blues guitarists of our time. He continues to tour with different bands (players) and for a while was fronting the band as vocalist as well. He's an ok singer, but he can smoke the hair off of your neck with his guitar when he gets cranked up. I've probably seen him more than 20 times. Here with Tommy Fyfe and the Whiskey River Band.

All I can Do Is Cry - Savoy Brown

Image
By 1971, Youlden had departed on a solo career and band members Dave Peverett, Roger Earle, and Tony Stevens had left to form their own group Foghat. Kim Simmonds rebuilt the band using former members of the blues band Chicken Shack and vocalist Dave Walker. That year, “Street Corner Talking” brought the band its best chart success up to that date. “Tell Mama”, “Street Corner Talking”, “All I Can Do Is Cry” and the band’s funky re-make of the Motown classic, “I Can’t Get Next To You”, took the band to platinum status and placed them in front of wildly enthusiastic rock audiences in arenas all over the world. It's pitiful that this may be what remains of history of such a great band. I know the band had maybe 30 different lineups like a revolving door but this old stuff is great. This is better than looking at the album cover...but not much! Hope you have the patience to listen to it. Possibly more video will surface Get Facebook support for your favorite band or venue - click HERE

Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell - Buddy Whittington

Image
Buddy Whittington (born 28 December 1956, in Fort Worth, Texas) is an American guitarist. He began playing the guitar inspired by his sister's records of The Beatles, Rolling Stones and, in particular, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton. At the age of 14 he was already a part of the Dallas/Fort Worth music scene and playing regularly in the clubs along Jacksboro Highway. While attending high school, Buddy played in a band called "Short Change" which opened for Point Blank, a band that he would later join, replacing rhythm guitar player Kim Davis. During the early 1980s, he formed and sang with his own band "The Sidemen". In 1991 they opened for John Mayall and when Coco Montoya left the Bluesbreakers in 1993, Mayall called him to take his place in the band. In Mayall's band Whittington also sings occasionally and contributes to songwriting. 2008 saw the release of his first solo album and touring in Europe with his UK based band which include...

Rollin and Tumblin/Medley Instrumental - Bernard Allison

Image
Bernard Allison (born November 26, 1965, Chicago, Illinois) is a blues guitarist based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. His father, Luther Allison was a Chicago blues musician. Bernard Allison is the youngest of nine children, and had many different musical influences while growing up, including Albert King, Muddy Waters and Freddie King, and later, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Johnny Winter. Allison accompanied his father to blues festivals in the early 1970s. There he was introduced to Muddy Waters, Hound Dog Taylor and Albert King, amongst others. The Nighthawks currently are Mark Wenner (vocals and harmonica), Paul Bell (lead guitar), Johnny Castle (bass guitar), and Mark Stutso (drums). Their 1979 album, Full House, issued on Adelphi Records, had guest appearances from Muddy Waters' sidemen, Pinetop Perkins and Bob Margolin. Keyboard player Greg Wetzel joined the band in 1983, was a full-time member until 1986, and has continued to play at special performances as an "alumni" of the band. The membership of the band remained stable until 1986. At that time, tired of the band's ex...

Shake Your Hips - The Rolling Stones

Image
This is great old footage of the Stones doing a Slim Harpo song. Everyone knows the Stones and everyone knows that the Stones loved the blues...since I got no film of Slim Harpo... Slim Harpo (January 11, 1924 – January 31, 1970) was an American blues musician. He was known as a master of the blues harmonica; the name "Slim Harpo" was derived from "harp," the popular nickname for the harmonica in blues circles. Named Slim Harpo by producer J.D. "Jay" Miller, he started his own recording career in 1957. His solo debut was the Grammy Hall of Fame single "I'm a King Bee" backed with "I Got Love If You Want It." Harpo recorded under A&R man J.D. "Jay" Miller, in Crowley, Louisiana for Excello Records based in Nashville, Tennessee, and enjoyed a string of popular R&B singles, including Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee "Rainin' In My Heart" (1961) and the number one Billboard R&B hit "Baby Scr...

Hipshake - Slim Harpo

Yeah...PJ Harvey got the blues!! Polly Jean Harvey (born 9 October 1969) is an English musician and singer-songwriter. She was raised in Corscombe, Dorset and Yeovil, Somerset. Her parents were both fans of American blues music. Their record collection exposed Harvey not only to the blues but also to Captain Beefheart, which would both become major influences on Harvey’s own musical style. Harvey is primarily a vocalist and guitarist, but is also proficient with a wide range of instruments including piano, organ, bass, saxophone, and autoharp. She began her professional career in the early 1990s by forming a band she named PJ Harvey. She recorded her first two albums with this trio, and when they broke up she continued as a solo artist. Since 1995 she has recorded her albums with various musicians including John Parish, Rob Ellis, Mick Harvey, and Eric Drew Feldman. She has also worked extensively with the producer Flood. Musically, Harvey dislikes repeating herself, resulting in album...
