💿 ALBUM REVIEW: Sergio Pereira - Colors Of Time

Image
Sergio Pereira is a Rio -born guitarist and composer whose music seamlessly bridges traditional Brazilian groove with American jazz sophistication. Growing up in Rio during the vibrant 1960s and 70s, he picked up the acoustic guitar (violão) at age eight, heavily inspired by bossa nova legends like João Gilberto and Tom Jobim .  His journey took a major turn in the 1980s when he relocated to New York City to study under jazz icons like Chuck Wayne and Sal Salvador . By the 1990s, Pereira was taking his global sound on the road, performing across Europe, Africa, and beyond. That lifetime of travel and training shines through in his latest album, Colors of Time, released on May 18, 2026.  The record is a beautifully relaxed masterclass in contemporary Latin jazz , layering warm South American moods with smooth, atmospheric bossa textures. Pereira captures a rich sense of memory and quiet sophistication across the tracks, effortlessly blending his signature acoustic strings ...

Tiger Turn artist: Sergio Pereira - Bossa+ - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Bossa+ , from Sergio Pereira , and it's warm, clean and inviting. Opening with title track, Bossa , Luis Guerra on keys lays down the melody, complimented by Sergio Pereira on guitar, Ariel Ramirez on bass, Chipi Chacon on trumpet and Mauricio Zottarelli on drums. Chacon, Pereira and Guerra expand on the melody alternatively with lead soloing keeping the track close. Solid opener. Laid back, One For Pat, finds Pereira on lead vocal and excellent Spanish guitar styling, joined by Ivan Melon Lewis on piano, Ivan Ruiz Machado on bass, Jose San Martin on drums and Romero Lubambo on violao. Very nice. Desamor (Verao Boreal) is a very nice track and my recommendation for radio track. With it's great melody, vocal by Pereira, and interwoven Latin rhythms, this track really hits. Chacon on trumpet lays in a real nice solo giving the track just the right amount of special sauce. Wrapping the release is and jazzed up cover ...

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Finesse, from Sergio Pereir a and it's really quite nice. Opening with White Lion , Sergio Pereira on guitar and vocal is joined by Reza Khan on rhythm guitar, Rodrigo Ursaia on flute, Helio Alves on piano, Mark Egan on bass, Mauricio Zottarelli on drums and Emelio Martins on percussion. A relatively smooth track a cool radio opener.  Morning Mist is an uptempo Brazillian Samba with melodic acoustic guitar and vocal by Pereira and marcus Teixeira on electric guitar, Paulo Paulelli on bass and Zottarelli on drums. Very nice. Ralph Moore on alto sax adds in on the intro on Quase 9 and really nice vocal by Pereira makes this a really strong tune. Helio Alves on piano lays in the first line of solo, followed by Moore, joined by Andre Vasconcellos on bass, and Emilio Martins on percussion. A nice breeze of cool air.  Desfilandoa Vitoria is very lively with a punctuated rhythm with the addition of Rodrigo Ursaia...
