Bman's Blues Report

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Winter's Coming , by Bridget Kelly Band and it's a solid blues rocker. Opening with title track, Winter's Coming Blues V.1 , a romping shuffle with a droning bass line and hot guitar lead by Tim Fik, Kelly on vocal and Roland "Boss" Jones on drums. Funk rocker, Whirlwind has a great driving beat and solid melody. I like Fik's energetic guitar lead and Jones' drum beat keeps it tight. My favorite track on the release. Southern flavored rocker, Travelin' Bone has a great Lynyrd Skynyrd swagger. Contrasted with Kelly's bluesy vocals, Fik and Jones drive this truck hard. Wrapping the release is instrumental track, Ride The Wind with it's more progressive jazz rock sound. I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Dark Spaces , from the Bridget Kelly Band and it's a strong blues rocker. Opening with Free Me , a sturdy blues rocker with Kelly on lead vocal and Tim on Fik on guitar, the band gets off to a good start with a good melody, and constant solid lead guitar work. Low slung title track, Dark Spaces gives Kelly a nice forum to showcase her vocals and Fik, who lays down constant and fluid lead lines to show his stuff. Very nice. I really like Fik's electric slide tones on Find My Way Back Home, with it's rural, flowing natural sound. Another track that i really liked was Things About To Change with sweet vocals by Kelly and well honed guitar lead by Fik. Ballad, Moments is sure to be to crowd favorite with strong vocal lead by Kelly and plenty of space for Fik to play ultra soulful lead guitar. Very nice. I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Blues Warrior , by the Bridget Kelly Band and it's cool. Opening with Lil' Honey Bee , an up tempo shuffle, lead guitar player Tim Fik wastes no time in showing his guitar prowess. Kelly has the lead on vocal backed by Mark Armbrecht on bass and Alex Klausner on drums. Good opener. I like Fik's finesse and dynamics on Stolen , a bluesy ballad featuring Kelly's lead vocals, Mike Hamm on bass and Michael Barady on drums. With it's droning bass line by Armbrecht, No Good Man Blues is one of my favorite tracks on the release with a solid melody and rich guitar lead. Another of my favorites is Alone with its twist on Robert Johnson's Crossroads. Fik powers up in this track showing is pyrotechnical capabilities but it's the basic groove on this track that hits home. I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Bone Rattler , from the Bridget Kelly Band and it is a rocking blues party. Opening disc one with Ain't Missin' You , Kelly on lead vocal and Tim Fik on guitar gets this release rocking with Mark Armbrecht on bass and Alex Klausner on drums. What You Need is a blues rocker with attitude and influences of Johnny Winter are obvious in Fik's playing. Nice slow cooker, No Good For Me has the skeleton of T-Bone Walker with rich vocals by Kelly and real nice guitar soloing by Fik. Very nice.   Leavin' On Sunday has a cool, funky rhythm and guitar with phazer giving it a Trower flavor. Bluesy ballad, Deeper Than Blue gives Fik lots of space to wail and he makes good use of it with a creative blues intro. Introspective vocals by Kelly make this one of the standout tracks. I just received the newest release, Outta The Blues , from the Bridget Kelly Ban d and it's a cool rocking blues party. Opening with Gonna Stay Here , a blues rock shuffle based loosely on Statesboro Blues. Featuring Bridget Kelly on lead vocal, Alex Klausner on drums, Mark Armbrecht on bass and Tim Fik on guitar, this is a solid opener. Digging into deeper blues, Spellbound , features Fik showing some of his prize riffs, making you sweat and with Kelly's warm vocals this is one of my favorite tracks on the release. With nice rhythm guitar work under a clean guitar opener, If You See My Baby , has a Doobies feel making is quite a danceable rocker. Fik shows his SRV side with some hot fanning guitar riffs. Shuffle track, Sweet River Blues , may be one of Kelly's best vocal outings on the release with pure blues feel. Very nice! I just received the newest release, Forever in Blues , from Bridget Kelly Band . Opening with cool blues number, I'll Be Missin' You , bassist Mike Hamm sets up a cool bass line for Kelly's supple vocals. Tim Fik plays clean and unrelenting guitar riffs throughout. Blues In the Kitchen has a Dire Straits kind of feel with stinging blues guitar riffs. Texas Toast is a perfect set up for guitarist Fik to show his hand displaying Johnny Winter like dexterity at times. A slow loping boogie, this track is one of the cooler tracks on the release. Jazzy feeling I'll Take The Blues lets Kelly sit back in the vocals and sing with ease. Fik throws down some really cool blues riffs keeping it tight with Michael Barady on drums. I Live Alone is a easy paced 12 bar number and Kelly puts out a Bonnie Raitt kind of phrasing. On Take Me Home Blues , written over the basic "Help Me" riff, Kelly and Fik trade the spotlight.
