Bman's Blues Report

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Apartment 14 , from Jeff Chaz , and it's got a cool groove. Opening with instrumental title track, Apartment 14, laying down a simple rock beat rhythm guitar, bass, and drums with an infectious guitar melody and solo by Chaz. Solid opener. Serial Killer has a light taste of Latin rhythm under a rocking horn overtone featuring Chaz on lead vocal and guitar and AJ Pittman on horns. Wrapping the release is The Brownsville Crawl with a super guitar vamp and and creative use of reverb. I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, This Silence Is Killing Me , from Jeff Chaz and it's an adventure. Opening with shuffle, Saving Everything For You , Chaz leads the way on lead vocal and guitar. With Tom Worrell on keys, Doug Belote on drums, Doug Therrien on bass and huge horn backing from AJ Pittman (trumpet), Michael Genevay (trumpets), and Ward Smith on sax, this track swings. Chaz brings the fever down for soft ballad and title track, This Silence Is Killing Me , featuring nicely phrased guitar riffs and added violin work by Harry Hardin. R&B track, I Ain't Nothin' Nice , has a really cool bass line by Therrien and tops out with bluesy guitar riffs over a cool horn drive. On Latin flavored, I'm Not All There , Chaz sets up one of my favorite tracks on the release with excellent percussion work by Michael Skinkus. Flaming, The Blues Is My Drug , shows fiery guitar riffs and almost falsetto vocals, over cool piano riffs by Worrell...

I just received the newest release, Sounds Like The Blues To Me , from Jeff Chaz and it's got an interesting sound. Opening with title track, Sounds Like The Blues To Me , Chaz creates an bluesy, boogaloo feel with his free wheelin guitar style, Doug Therrien on bass, Doug Belote on drums and John Autin on keys. Wild! Make Love To You In The Sand has a bikini beach sound with rhythmic muffled guitar strums, BB King riffs, and dramatic singing style. A cool track with horn backing by AJ Pittman on trumpet and Ward Smith on sax. Hitchhiking In The Rain , shows a smooth blend of BB King and T-Bone Walker styling with very nice piano work by Autin. Chaz really hits it vocally on this one and his guitar work is tasty as well. R&B track, I Am The Blues has a Mustang Sally chug a lug and BB King flavored blues riffs with cool horn backing. Nice! You Look So Good To Me sounds like it's right out of the Louis Jordan songbook. A rockin' blues with smokin' riffs. Nice! ...
