Bman's Blues Report

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release by Debbie Bond , Live At The Song Theater and it's live. Opening with That Thing Called Love , Debbie Bond on lead vocal and guitar. With an easy rock beat and soulful sax by Sam Williams , This is a solid opener. Slow blues, Watch Out For Your Heart , features Bond with some of her best vocals on the release and clean guitar accompaniment highlighted by a bluesy sax solo by Williams. Grand Funk 's hit, Some Kind Of Wonderful gets a country rockin' 2 step feel with Bond on vocal and Rick Asherson on backing vocals and keys and Williams taking the lead on sax for a real nice solo. Ann Peebles track, I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down , really ventures deep into pop music with Bond adding soulful enthusiasm and Williams again taking the lead solo on sax.  I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release (July 9, 2021), Blues Without Borders , from Debbie Bond and considering our times and the proximities of remote players, quite remarkable. Thanks to cyber space, this album was completed in five separate studios and in the US and UK. Opening with High Rider Blues , Debbie Bond on vocal and guitar works with Rick Asherson on harmonica and  Micky Barker on drums for a cool opener. Let Me Be is my choice for radio track on the release with a straightforward melody, Bond on vocal and and some bluesy lead guitar, Asherson on keys and Barker on drums. The best vocal showcase on the release is Blue Rain with it's solid blues bottom and traditional blues riffs. Radiator , a soulful rocker features a cool sax solo by Brad Guin. Another strong soulful rocker is Let Freedom Ring with it's heartfelt lyrics and firm melody and tight keyboard backing by Asherton. Wrapping the release is country flavored rocker, Road Song wi...

I just had the opportunity to review the newest release, Enjoy The Ride , from Debbie Bond , and it is a soulful grouping of radio styled tracks. Opening with title track, Enjoy The Ride , Bonds leads the way on vocal backed by serious heat by Rachel and Carla Edwards. Will McFarlane lays in some real nice slide guitar and Dave Crenshaw really plays some super percussion. Easy jazz rocker, Rainbow , has a pleasant melody and solid rhythm. R&B track, Love Vibration , with Rachel and Carla backing Bonds shows some of the best vocals on the release and featuring Spooner Oldham on B3. Left Me In The Dark has a cool Latin influenced rhythm and features a sassy guitar solo by Bonds. R&B track, Find A Way , has great bones with hot horn work from Brad Guin and sassy vocals from Bond. Possibly my favorite track on the release. I Am The Blues has super backing vocals by Rachel and Carla and cool harp backing to the lead vocals by Bond. I just received the newest release (January 21, 2014), That Thing Called Love, by Debbie Bond and the Trudats . Opening with You're The Kind Of Trouble , Bond immediately captures your attention with a tight blues based pop track with a nice groove. Steady Rolling Man has an early blues/New Orleans sound with nice piano work by Rick Asherson and nice sax work from tom Pallardy. Feed My Soul is a solid ballad with a catchy melody and radio hook. I Like It Like That has a boogie feel and Bonds vocals are spot on. Asherson exercises a bit of John Mayall like harp work on this track. Very nice! Still Missing You falls square into the ballad arena. Bond plays a sweet guitar solo on this track leading to a nice sax solo from Pallardy. Tarragona Blues has a Latin rhythm provided by Dave Crenshaw, Jonathan Blakney and Ray Robinson on drums. Again Bond steps out with a clever guitar solo and Asherton lays down some nice key work.
