The soulful Burning James and groove timekeeping machine ChazMatisse met playing behind Reverend Kevin Williams on an original music project in 2007, the Believers. A year and a half later, when Kevin had to leave they looked at each other and said, "Now what?" and then the answer came, "James Brown!". They went looking for a drummer who could play on the 'one'. Not an easy task by any stretch, especially around this part of the central coast. One Wednesday night in October, 2009 at the Clubhouse blues jam, James met Rick Pittman who was the house drummer at the Jam. James was immediately impressed by Rick's lock down blues playing.
