Zac Harmon & The Drive - Live - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Live , from Zac Harmon & The Drive and it's super! Opening with soulful, NTRO , Nate Robinson on bass and Gino Iglehart on drums set a solid foundation, with Corey Lacy building on keys and lush guitar work by Zac Harmon and Kingston Livingston really setting the bar. Terrific opener. Blue Pill Thrill has super movement and soulful vocals by Harmon. Lacy on keys works the rhythm with Robinson and Iglehart and Livingston and and Harmon play stinging riffs on guitar really giving this track some kick. Deep blues track, Feet Back On The Ground features Albert King like stinging riffs and super soulful vocals by Harmon. Keeping the music floor low allows Harmon plenty of space to go dynamically from soft to wow quickly adding real emotion to the track. Excellent! Boogie Down is a strong jam with a firm piano base by Lacy giving Harmon plenty of headroom for vocal corralling. Lacy lays in some real tasty keyboar...

John D'Amato - Blood On The Strings - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Blood On The Strings , by John D'Amato and it's a cool mix of blues and rock. Opening with slick rocker, Working Girl , John D'Amato really shows a good had on guitar and lead vocal, backed by Carl Brenner on drums, Hottube Willie Scruggs on bass, and Dan Nadassi on keys. Cool opener. Swinging shuffle, Break Your Heart features Lauren D'Amato on lead vocal, and a cool lead guitar demo by John. With John Green on bass and Brenner on drums, a cool track. Title track, Blood On The Strings is a driving boogie with a a solid bass line by Scruggs and John on lead vocal and guitar. Slow R&B style ballad , What Happened , features John and Lauren on lead vocal duet, balanced by John's stinging guitar riffs. Using a classic blues vamp and ripping blues riffs on Walk on Water , D'Amato on lead vocal and guitar sets up a real nice blues track with a strong rhythm guitar line and bottom. Very cool. That’s right! John was born blue due to a congenital heart defect that reduced the amount of oxygen in his blood stream. He returned to his natural color and was released to from the hospital several days later. At that point in time there was no way to correct the defect and the doctors advised his parents that his life span would be limited. This led John down a different path than most children. A path of endless doctor visits, medical tests, lonely hospital stays and painful medical procedures. All of them necessary to determine if they could save John’s life. Fortunately through the Grace of God and a doctor at Yale University a surgical procedure was developed that saved John’s life. Building His Blues Style An excerpt from...

You might say that John D’Amato was born with the blues. John was born blue due to a lack of oxygen caused by a congenital heart defect (which was corrected at the age of nine). This led John down a different path than most children, one of seemingly endless doctor visits and medical tests, lonely hospital stays and painful medical procedures all of which were to determine if they could correct John’s problem before it killed him. Fortunately through the grace of God and a doctor at Yale University a surgical procedure was developed that saved John’s life. This experience had a profound effect on John At an early age John learned the lessons of fear, pain and loneliness, but he also learned the lessons of faith, hope, the grace and power of god and the healing power of music. Ask John about the blues and his reply will be “God gave us a way to help ease our pain. Help us forget our problems, our fears, our mistakes and to cry to God for help and healing. That’s what the ...
