Zac Harmon & The Drive - Live - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Live , from Zac Harmon & The Drive and it's super! Opening with soulful, NTRO , Nate Robinson on bass and Gino Iglehart on drums set a solid foundation, with Corey Lacy building on keys and lush guitar work by Zac Harmon and Kingston Livingston really setting the bar. Terrific opener. Blue Pill Thrill has super movement and soulful vocals by Harmon. Lacy on keys works the rhythm with Robinson and Iglehart and Livingston and and Harmon play stinging riffs on guitar really giving this track some kick. Deep blues track, Feet Back On The Ground features Albert King like stinging riffs and super soulful vocals by Harmon. Keeping the music floor low allows Harmon plenty of space to go dynamically from soft to wow quickly adding real emotion to the track. Excellent! Boogie Down is a strong jam with a firm piano base by Lacy giving Harmon plenty of headroom for vocal corralling. Lacy lays in some real tasty keyboar...

Lucky Bag Records artist: Terry Quiett Band - Taking Sides - New Release Review

Image
I just received the newest release (March 25, 2014), Taking Sides , from the Terry Quiett Band and it's a blast! Opening with Come The Morning , a rockin' blues stomper featuring Missippi Hal Reed on harp, the band gets the blood flowing and Quiett wastes no time whipping out the resophonic for some cool sliding. Boogie track Nothing At All has a lot of bottom from Rodney Baker (drums) and Nathan Johnson (bass). This track is a hot ride and one of the rockinest tracks on the release. Cut The Rope has some of that southern blues rock swagger with smokin guitar riffs and hammering drums. What's not to like! Wheelhouse Blues has a standard 12 bar format allowing the band to get into full blues swing. Quiett has a slide signature all his own which in my listening is a compliment in itself. His vocal work on this track, well complimented by the smoothness of his sliding is very appealing. Voodoo Queen opens with an intro by Johnson and electric piano work by Scott Williams...

LISTEN TO TRACKS FROM A NIGHT AT THE ORPHEUM   00a7e9 Everybody’s talking… "The ultimate test for an electric guitarist is cutting it in a trio context and the 'Kansas Tornado' Terry Quiett leaves absolutely no doubt as to his bonafides. Following two acclaimed studio CDs, he, bassist Aaron Underwood and drummer Rodney Baker have created a lasting "record" of what they do best - rock an audience until t...

Terry Quiett Band - A Night At The Orpheum - New Release Review

I remember a while back on one of my late night new blues band searches and coming across this cool band - Terry Quiett and thinking, wow... these guys are hot. I just received a copy of A Night At The Orpheum , a new release from the Terry Quiett Band . The release opens with Getting Through To Me , an Otis Rush like track. This is a great opening track and Quiett on vocals and guitar set a high bar for the rest of the show. He's a strong singer and wrings the neck of the guitar till it cry's out for Mama. Judgement Day is up next with Quiett demonstrating his ability on slide. Now I don't know what kind of axe he pulls out for this (typically a strat player) but it has a resonator fat sound and has a swampy sound. Quiett has an interesting vocal style that is very natural along the lines of Warren Haynes or Ronnie Van Zandt. He doesn't sound like he's trying to copy anyone...it's a special quality some people are just born with. next the band kicks out Big Ma...

Disappear Again - Terry Quiett Band

Image
Here's another track by Terry Quiett Band in case you missed the last one. These guys have a great sound. I particularly like the glistening chords. The winner of the 2010 Memphis Bound Competiton was the Terry Quiett Band. Terry and his band have Terry put on two smokin' hot performances for both the semi-finals and the finals. Here's the bio the band sent in for the competition: Over the last three years the Terry Quiett Band has played over three-hundred shows across the heartland of this country. They've mesmerized audiences with their original, blues-soaked, groove-inducing, soul-filled sound from 6th Street in "the live music capital" Austin to Beale Street in "the birthplace of rock and blues" Memphis. They've paid their share of dues and tolls from the Rocky Mountains of Denver all the way to the blue grass of Kentucky, winning fans and growing their core grassroots audience with each performance. Terry Quiett Band has had the pleasur...
