Zac Harmon & The Drive - Live - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Live , from Zac Harmon & The Drive and it's super! Opening with soulful, NTRO , Nate Robinson on bass and Gino Iglehart on drums set a solid foundation, with Corey Lacy building on keys and lush guitar work by Zac Harmon and Kingston Livingston really setting the bar. Terrific opener. Blue Pill Thrill has super movement and soulful vocals by Harmon. Lacy on keys works the rhythm with Robinson and Iglehart and Livingston and and Harmon play stinging riffs on guitar really giving this track some kick. Deep blues track, Feet Back On The Ground features Albert King like stinging riffs and super soulful vocals by Harmon. Keeping the music floor low allows Harmon plenty of space to go dynamically from soft to wow quickly adding real emotion to the track. Excellent! Boogie Down is a strong jam with a firm piano base by Lacy giving Harmon plenty of headroom for vocal corralling. Lacy lays in some real tasty keyboar...

I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Grounded Soul Records artist: Greg Sover - His-Story - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, His-Story , from Greg Sover and it's a cool blues rocker. Opening with Dark House , Greg Sover on lead vocal, bass, harmonica and guitar is joined by Jim Salamone on drums and guitar, Kyle Perrelli and Brad Hinton on understated wailing lap steel guitar. Cool opener. Slow blues, Temptation , has a real nice feel with some of Sover's best vocals on the release. Backed up by David Uosikkinen on drums and Kenny Aaronson on bass this track sets a nice bluesy pace for the release. Jimi's Manic Depression retains it's original driving rock feel. Sover does a real nice job on lead guitar holding down Jimi's riffs with Billy Cox cooking the bass and Tom Walling pounding the drums. Strong. Song 28 has a clear root in Hendrix and it's overdriven rock feel. Sover's guitar riffs are screaming and Najashi Rasheed on on drums really tows the line backed by Aaronson on bass. Wrapping the release is Remember ...

Johnny I. All Star Blues Revival - EP Review

Image
I just received the newest release by Johnny I. All Star Blues Revival . This release is star packed featuring the works of Jaimoe , Billy Cox , Bruce Katz and Reese Wynans . Opening with Life Is Better , a funky groove and Billy Cox on bass, Ingrassia leads the way on vocals. Wynans carries a lot of the load on B3 and Layton cements the bottom on drums. After a nice B3 solo from Wynans, Johnny I. steps up with a fat, high gain guitar solo making for a cool jam. Late Night has more of a jazzy ballad featuring Jaimoe on drums and Katz on B3. Katz steps up on this track and plays a mean solo opening the door for Johnny I. to step up again with a burst of fat guitar riff. An easy going track reminding me quite a bit of an early Isley Brothers track. Interesting listing and a decent start to a concept release. RED HOUSE - BILLY COX, JOHN D'AMATO, ERIC GALES, NIC LAURITANO

Image
You might say that John D’Amato was born with the blues. John was born blue due to a lack of oxygen caused by a congenital heart defect (which was corrected at the age of nine). This led John down a different path than most children, one of seemingly endless doctor visits and medical tests, lonely hospital stays and painful medical procedures all of which were to determine if they could correct John’s problem before it killed him. Fortunately through the grace of God and a doctor at Yale University a surgical procedure was developed that saved John’s life. This experience had a profound effect on John At an early age John learned the lessons of fear, pain and loneliness, but he also learned the lessons of faith, hope, the grace and power of god and the healing power of music. Ask John about the blues and his reply will be “God gave us a way to help ease our pain. Help us forget our problems, our fears, our mistakes and to cry to God for help and healing. That’s what the ...
