I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Cleopatra Records artist: Eric Gales - A Night On The Sunset Street - New Release Review - CD/DVD

Image
I just received the newest release (July 8, 2016), A Night On The Sunset Strip , from Eric Gales , and it's really strong. Opening with Make It There , Gales and crew are FUNKY! Backed by Cesar Oviedo on bass who's emphasis is additive and percussive and Nicholas Hayes, who's drumming is crisp and direct this band is tight and spontaneous. Gales, of course, has the mic, playing a green/gold metallic Strat and his soloing is absolutely fluid. This man can throw down 50 note runs barely moving is gingers. Great opener. On modified boogie track, The Change In Me , Oviedo sets a solid boogie bass line but this track has some changes in mind. With effective use of rim shots and snappy jazz turns by Hayes and classy chords by Gales, this track is adventurous. Gales slowly builds dynamics using light bursts of fire but ultimately exploding into full out speed riffs, but not without returning to the jazzy chords and light touch to close. An interview with Gales is interjected be...

CD/Video Review - Instructions and expectations

Image
6/1/2016 Please submit your CD and information to: Bman's Blues Report PO Box 3786 Carefree, AZ 85377 Notice: I routinely get 15-30 professionally produced CD's each week. These come from record companies , professional promoters and independent artists. I try to review each and every CD that I receive on a first in first out basis and try to review them in a timely manner. Occasionally I am unable to keep up with the expectations of some artists in turning their CD's quickly. Yesterday I was confronted by an independent artist regarding my "blatant disregard" of their CD which had not been reviewed after weeks of waiting. The said CD is in the queue with 40 other CD's. If you want "your" CD to go to the front of the line, please include US currency in the envelope with your CD. I will gladly "expedite" a review more quickly dependent upon the amount of currency included. The amount of US currency included in th...

Ruf Records artist: Thorbjorn Risager & The Black Tornado - Songs From The Road - New Release Review

Image
I just received the newest release, Songs From The Road by Thorbjorn Risager & Black The Tornado and it's terrific! I gotta say I am really looking forward to getting home and reviewing the DVD concert but I am currently on the road so the CD will have to do for now.  Opening with If You Wanna Leave , a solid blues rocker, Risager's vocals are incredible from the first note! Supported by Peter W. Kehl on trumpet, Hans Nybo on Tenor sax, Kasper Wagner on alto sax and Emil Balsgaard on keys this train moves! Risager shares guitar duty with Peter Skjerning and is backed by Lisa Lystam and Ida Bang on vocal giving the track a real fullness. Excellent opener! Paradise has a real nice strut and hot jazz interweave, punctuated by the horn section, Soren Bajgaard on bass and Martin Seidelin on drums. Very nice! Drowning has the flare of a cabaret but Risager's thick, rugged vocals nicely with the trumpet carrier, sax solo and sweet melody. A real nice cover of Big Joe T...
