Zac Harmon & The Drive - Live - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Live , from Zac Harmon & The Drive and it's super! Opening with soulful, NTRO , Nate Robinson on bass and Gino Iglehart on drums set a solid foundation, with Corey Lacy building on keys and lush guitar work by Zac Harmon and Kingston Livingston really setting the bar. Terrific opener. Blue Pill Thrill has super movement and soulful vocals by Harmon. Lacy on keys works the rhythm with Robinson and Iglehart and Livingston and and Harmon play stinging riffs on guitar really giving this track some kick. Deep blues track, Feet Back On The Ground features Albert King like stinging riffs and super soulful vocals by Harmon. Keeping the music floor low allows Harmon plenty of space to go dynamically from soft to wow quickly adding real emotion to the track. Excellent! Boogie Down is a strong jam with a firm piano base by Lacy giving Harmon plenty of headroom for vocal corralling. Lacy lays in some real tasty keyboar...

I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Kurt Allen - Live From The Red Shed - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Live From The Red Shed , by Kurt Allen and it's a solid blues rocker. Opening with Graveyard Blues , Kurt Allen on lead vocal and guitar, Gregory Schaberg on drums and Bill Morlan on bass have plenty of swagger and sting. Strong opener. Slow blues, How Long , really has the perfect crowd  components with tension, soulful vocals, a solid melody and solo guitar. Shuffle, Watch Yo Step has a real nice feel with a classic blues vamp and British blues feel. Allen rips it loose on slide for a rowdy conclusion. Wrapping the release is Better Think Twice , a cool blues jam with a great bass line giving Allen plenty of space to solo over the melody. This may be my favorite track on the release... a solid closer for a solid release.   If you support live Blues acts, up and coming Blues talents and want to learn more about Blues news and Fathers of the Blues, Like ---Bman’s Blues Report--- Facebook Page! Kurt Allen - Whiskey, Women & Trouble - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Whiskey, Women & Trouble , from Kurt Allen and it's a solid rocker. Opening with Graveyard Blues , Allen wastes no time showing the grit in his voice and his guitar rumble. Backed by Lester Estelle Jr. on drums, Craig Kew on bass and Beaux Lux on keys, a super opener. Slick shuffle, Watch Your Step , has a a cool pace and tight horn unit made up of Pete Carrroll on trumpet and Trevor Turla on trombone giving Allen a broad stage to lead both vocally and on slide guitar and with solid work by Estelle and Kew. Slow blues, How Long has a nice melodic guitar lead, working nicely with Allen's vocal and horn compliment. With it's potent lead bass line and electrifying soloing, this is likely a crowd favorite for the release. Tom tom driven title track, Whiskey, Women and Trouble has an up tempo shuffle beat and plenty of blues riffs to go around. My favorite track on the release is bass driven, Funkalicious , wi...
