Mike Garner is a musician living and working in Aotearoa - New Zealand. He grew up listening to and playing blues in England and moved to New Zealand in 1988. Mike has played in New Zealand, England, Australia, Italy and Germany. His latest CD was released in June 2011. He toured New Caledonia in August 2007, The Cook Islands in 2008 and at the Himalayan Blues Festival, Kathmandu in 2009. He also opened for the Motown stars Four Tops, The Miracles, The Temptations, Martha and the Vandellas, and Jimmy Barnes in front of a 50,000 crowd at Mission Estate in Feb 2010! This is a first for me....to be reviewing a contemporary mix of traditional blues artists by a contemporary artist. Here's how the artist describes their work..."The blues used to be party music; now it can be played again at the hippest modern parties, festival and clubs ..…. and still feel down home". It's hard to get you head around as you read it...but just listen to it. It is really solid sounding with the "real blues" deeply embedded and with an overmix of rhythms to make the music sound "new". miX&dorp edits/remixes tracks that were originally released on Black and Tan Records in the past 14 years.
