Alligator Records artist: Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials - Slideways - New Release Review

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Slideways , from Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials and it's terrific! Opening with Bad All By Myself , Lil' Ed on lead guitar and vocal, gets things rocking right off the bat. With Michael Garrett playing a strong rhythm line reinforced by James "Pookie" Young and Kelly Littleton on drums, this is a great opener. The Flirt In The Car Wash Skirt is a great blues rocker with raucous slide work by Lil' Ed and Ben Levin on piano really gets this track boogieing. Vital rhythm guitar work by Garrett and a rock solid bottom makes this one of my favorites on the release. Elmore James flavored, 13th Street And Trouble , is a strong track with a pounding bottom and super piano work by Levin. Lil' Ed has this track by the short hairs and is really shaking it. Cooking! Laid back Chicago blues , More Time , has solid pacing and features Lil' Ed upfront on lead vocal. Garrett showcases his lead gui...

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Blues Collar , by Chris O'Leary and it's a huge bite of Chicago style blues . Opening with shuffle, Bad Decisions , Chris O'Leary on vocal and harmonica sets a  romping pace with crisp piano work by Bronson Hoover , Chuck Cotton on drums, Rodgigo Mantovani on bass and Pat O'Shea on guitar. Solid opener. Funky, Am I the Only Fool? , features super horn backing by Shane Kirsch, Andy Stahl and Ron Knittle on sax giving it a cool Memphis sound and O'Shea's guitar is stinging under O'Leary's vocals with Hoover on keys, Cotton on drums and Shiela Klinefelter on bass. Slower paced track, Nothing But A Memory not only features O'Leary's strong vocals but smoky harmonica and Morganfield like slide guitar work by Rollin Bob Margolin really adds great flavor and further guitar work by Chris Vitarello, piano by Jesse O'Brien, Mike Law on bass and Mike Bram on drums makes for a tight trac...

American Showplace Music artist: Chris O'Leary - 7 Minutes Late - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, 7 Minutes Late , from Chris O'Leary and I really like it. Opening with R&B track, What The Devil Made Me Do , O'Leary on lead vocal creates a lot of steam backed by Andrei Koribanics on drums, Matt Raymond on bass, Jeremy Baum on organ Chris Difrancesco on sax and some cool guitar soloing by Chris Vitarello with Peter Hopkinson and Greg Gumpel on guitars. One of my favorite tracks on the release is funky, One More Chance At Love , with a great bass, drum and rhythm guitar bottom giving O'Leary an excellent stage to show his excellent vocal and harmonica styling as well as slick guitar soloing by Hopkinson and Gumpel. Another favorite, Second Time Around is a straight, solid boogie. Grinding guitar soloing highlights the track over rimshots, harp boogie and super vocals. Excellent!
