Zac Harmon & The Drive - Live - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Live , from Zac Harmon & The Drive and it's super! Opening with soulful, NTRO , Nate Robinson on bass and Gino Iglehart on drums set a solid foundation, with Corey Lacy building on keys and lush guitar work by Zac Harmon and Kingston Livingston really setting the bar. Terrific opener. Blue Pill Thrill has super movement and soulful vocals by Harmon. Lacy on keys works the rhythm with Robinson and Iglehart and Livingston and and Harmon play stinging riffs on guitar really giving this track some kick. Deep blues track, Feet Back On The Ground features Albert King like stinging riffs and super soulful vocals by Harmon. Keeping the music floor low allows Harmon plenty of space to go dynamically from soft to wow quickly adding real emotion to the track. Excellent! Boogie Down is a strong jam with a firm piano base by Lacy giving Harmon plenty of headroom for vocal corralling. Lacy lays in some real tasty keyboar...

Gonzalo Bergara - Zalo's Blues - New Release review

Image
I just received the newest release, Zalo's Blues from Gonzalo Bergara and it's terrific! Opening with instrumental, Drawback , a quick paced shuffle, you'd swear you were listening to Gatemouth Brown featuring Gonzalo on Guitar, Mariano D'Andrea on bass and Maximiliano on drums. These guys are hot and flaming! On rock and roller, Drinking , Chuck berry Style, Gonzalo steps up to the mic and shows his appreciation of fine rock. This stuff is pure and fun ... dig the riffs! This release doesn't have any weak spots and this is one of my favorites on the release. Singing My Song puts me in mind of a song, Made Into A Movie, from one of the best (sleeper) ZZ Top albums, XXX. If you don't have it....get it! This is a dramatic ballad with smoking hot emotional blues guitar soloing. Excellent! Opening with Jimmy Reed himself, You Don't Have To Go is augmented by the band and Gonzalo's vocals are sticky and the pace is amazing. This is the blues...yes! Exce...

Daniel DeVita - Southside Blues - New release Review

Image
I just received the newest release, Southside Blues from Daniel DeVita and it's great! The feeling starts on the front of the cover with a blues player sitting in a dark wood trimmed room, surrounded by vintage guitars and amp equipment, holding a vintage mic and wearing blue and orange shoes. This screams old style Chicago! On yeah, and there is a mono stereo compatible note on the CD. Nice touch! This is the attention that DeVita has put into this really cool release. Opening with John Brim's, You Got Me Where You Want Me , DeVita leads on vocal and guitar, backed by Mariano D'Andrea on bass, Gabriel Cabiaglia on drums and featuring Nicolas Smoljan on harp. This track smells like Chicago! Excellent! On Little Walter's, One Of These Mornings , DeVita really lays out some tasty guitar riffs and this release is rolling. Muddy Waters' Standing Around Crying is up next and DeVita really nails it. The soulful vocals, the slinky slide and howlin' harp... excell...

Playin' The Blues (By The Rules) - The Jackpot$

Image
I have recently received a copy of a debut release from a new blues band from Argentina. The band is called The Jackpot$ and the recording is called Playin' The Blues (By The Rules) . Eleven tracks (plus a bonus) in all this is a cd to hear! I have been listening to this recording for a few days and I have to say...It's great!! Sure, there are some things on here that seem unusual to my ear but I really like this cd. The cd has a familiar sound but I won't try to box it in because it is alive. Black Train Boogie is a strong harp driven track with solid vocals and solid rhythm. Treat Me Right is an upbeat boogie blues with that heavy bass and drum rhythm. The harp is always present and strong. This song also has a really cool almost Butterfield Blues Band sounding guitar solo. I don't know if you're getting me but this is good. I'm Going To Pawn My Guitar is a cool blues over the Latin beat which has a very cool guitar solo and some unconventional riffs to ge...

Bluesiana - DEMIAN BAND

Image
Demian Dominguez is the most promising Blues/Rock artist ever to emerge from the Latin American, and Spanish cultures. His musicianship and virtuosity sounds so authentically Blues that you would think him a native of the Southern United States, rather than his native Argentina and current home in Barcelona, Spain. Not since the British invasion of the late sixties have we seen a guitarist/vocalist outside the U.S. so adroit at interpreting this indigenous American music and this is amply demonstrated on Demian Band's newest CD release, "Tattoo'd Fish". The Blues may have originated in the U.S., but clearly it now belongs to the world! A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Demian has been devoted to his music and his musical career since the age of 12. At the young age of 15 he achieved a unique opportunity, and received excellent reviews, when he was chosen as the opening artist for Jimmie Vaughan, Los Lobos and Roy Rogers at Huracan Stadium in Buenos Aires, in a trib...
