Overton Music artist: Russ Green - Stone Cold - New Release Review

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Stone Cold , from Russ Green , and it's a driving blues rocker. Opening with Lint Redux , you are immediately in the middle of a swampy blues with modern effects. With a firm foot stomp by Felix Pollard on drums and Vic Jackson on bass Russ Green on harmonica and vocals really has the earthy feel. Giles Corey on slide gives the track great grease and Green's harp work is strong. Excellent opener. 12 Feet of Water opens with a terrific harmonica aria before grinding into a super drum driven romp. With the feel that I can only describe as Hill Country , Green delivers such soulful vocals, comforted by Joe Monroe on keys, this track just grabs you. Green's harmonica is like a shuddering wind blowing through you with the thumping bass of Vic Jackson and Vince Agwada on guitar. Excellent! Electric Chair Blues - Robert "Guitar" Welch

Robert Welch, called "Guitar" and "King of the Blues" by the other convicts was born in Memphis in 1896. He learned from the records of Lonnie Johnson and Blind Lemon Jefferson and played in bands starting in the late 30's . Times Getting Tougher Than Tough - Will Tucker and Charlie Musselwhite

Will Tucker was raised on blues and southern rock in Memphis, Tennessee. He was playing drums at age five, piano at eight, and guitar at the age of twelve. His love of music led him to BB King's Blues Club where he was discovered by owner, Tommy Peters, who calls Will "the axe man." At age 14, Will was performing with the house band, and soon had a regular slot with his own band playing to enthusiastic crowds. During 2008 and 2009, Will performed on stage with Charlie Musselwhite, G. Love and Special Sauce, and the Beach Boys with John Stamos. Living in the home of the blues has advantages. Will and his band have opened for BB King five times, and met legends such as Bobby Blue Bland, Billy Gibbons, David Porter and Walter Trout. Charlie Wood is a talented and versatile singer, songwriter and keyboardist whose eclectic musical style incorporates elements of popular music, jazz, blues and traditional r&b. Born in Memphis, TN in 1967, Charlie studied classical piano from an early age and jazz piano in high school and college. He spent 1990 on the road as keyboardist for legendary blues guitarist Albert King, with whom he toured the U.S. and Europe. For over fifteen years the Charlie Wood Trio performed nightly at the King's Palace Café on Beale Street. During their tenure at the Palace such musical luminaries as Rufus Thomas, B.B. King, George Coleman, Joey DeFrancesco, Alvin Batiste, Tony Reedus, Georgie Fame and many others stopped by to sit in and play with the band.
