💿 ALBUM REVIEW: Leigh Pilzer - Keep Holding On

Image
Get ready to groove with Dr. Leigh Pilzer , the Washington, D.C. baritone sax powerhouse who proves that jazz is meant to be a living, breathing party, not a dusty museum piece. Described as a pure force of nature with a gruff, punchy, and assertive sound, Leigh brings a heavy dose of soulful grit to the stage. She has traded licks with the legendary Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra and even arranged horns for local legends like Chuck Brown and Eva Cassidy , and now she is bringing that deep, soulful swagger front and center with her vibrant new album, Keep Holding On. This record is a masterclass in pure, undeniable groove, packed with plenty of attitude, low-end bark, and raw energy that blues fans will instantly appreciate. Keep Holding On strikes the perfect balance between paying respect to the jazz heritage and absolutely cutting loose, making it an essential, high-energy addition to your playlist.   🎵 LISTEN & SUPPORT THE ALBUM   Keep Holding On by Leigh ...

Floating Records artist: The Country Well - Drink More - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Drink More , from The Country Well and it's an interesting change of pace.    Opening with light country influenced, Gifted Spirit , featuring Graham Guest on vocal and guitar, and Bob Hemenger on sax. Cool opener. Another country pop track (think JJ Cale) with an interesting weave is Wigwam . Guest again leads the way on guitar and lead vocal, backed by Lyle Evans on bass, and Josh Kelly on drums. With a Bootsy Collins like bass bottom by Evans, and a firm cowbell by Kelly, Big Country Love is a cool groove. Michael Batdorf has the lead on vocal and Adam Rossi on keyboards really dig in. one of my favorite tracks on the release is ballad, Drinkin' and Smokin' featuring michela French on lead vocal and a nice sax solo by Hemenger. Wrapping the release is title track, Drink More , a cool, bluegrass track featuring Michela French on lead vocal. With Guest on guitar, Mark Karan on guitar, Don Zimmer on guitar, ...

Floating Records artist: Jeffrey Halford and the Healers - Lo-Fi Dreams - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Lo-Fi Dreams from Jeffrey Halford and the Healers featuring country, soul and rock laden music. Opening is Two Jacksons , a simple rock radio track with flavors of John Cougar and the Eagles. Halford on lead vocal and guitar is joined by Adam Rossi on drums and keys and Bill MacBeath on bass. Elvis Shot The Television is a cool track with a memorable lyric, cool slide by Halford and cool keys and drums by Rossi. One of my favorite tracks, Door #3 has a great melody, cool backing vocals by Rossi and iridescent guitar lines by Tom Heyman. Bird Of Youth is a hot country rocker with a hint of British style, a driving beat, a cool bass line and a healthy dose of slide guitar. Very cool. Sweet Annette is a curious track with a hint of Lou Reed, cool lead guitar and euphoric steel guitar swirling in the air. Cool blues rocker, Looking For A Home , has a simple melody and country blues style with a snappy drum beat, raw sl...
