Bman's Blues Report

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Right On Time , from John Christopher Morgan and it's a solid blend of rock, blues, county and pop. Opening with rocker, Vidalia , John Christopher Morgan leads the way with solid vocals and drums, and Albert Lee sits in with he country flavored guitar lead and full backing vocals by Jamie Wood , Viva Vinson and Marcella Detroit. With a strong " Bo Diddley " beat by Morgan, Trouble Is My Business is a cool track adding flavor to the set. San Buenaventura has a cool, surf/spaghetti western feel. Zach Zunis is featured on guitar dripping with reverb, with the tasty drumming of Morgan. Very cool. Shuffle, Black Bag Blues , features RJ  Mischo on harp and some real nice guitar lead by Franck Goldwasser with Morgan holding it tight on drums. Excellent guitar phrasing is the ticket on The Jeweler's Daughter with soulful vocals and featuring Martin Nutty Brown Gagnon on piano. Very nice. Goldwasser leads ...

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Take My Rider, by Douglas Avery and it's jam packed with raw blues tracks. Opening with Kokomo Arnold's Bad Luck Blues , Avery on vocal and harmonica slips into a fine shuffle. Backed by Carl Sonny Leyland on piano, Franck Goldwasser spinning some real nice guitar riffs, Ralph Carter on bass and organ and Johnny Morgan on drums this is a solid opener. Original track, Malibu Burnin' opens with some really tasty slide work, a droning drum beat and thumping bass, providing a great backdrop for Avery on lead vocal. I like it raw and this is it. Little Walter's Just Keep Lovin' Her is a real nice showcase for Avery on harp. With a nice walking bass line, one of  my favorites on the release. Delta style Jelly Jelly is strong with slide resonator and Avery on harmonica. This is blues, man. Blind Owl Boogie has great tempo reinforced by Morgan and Carter. I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Love At The All Night Café , from Jon Gindick and it's easy, breezy and bluesy. Opening with I Was Born To Wail, harmonica player, guitar player and lead vocalist, Jon Gindick sets the pace with train riffs and a up tempo beat. Backed by Ralph Carter on bass, Frack Goldwasser on guitar and Pete Gallagher on drums, the band hits the ground running. Title track, The All Night Café has a cool, Latin sway, clean guitar riffs, excellent percussion, harmonica and vocal making it one of my favorites on the release. Another of my favorites is blues number, Load Me Up Baby with it's rocking intro and it's swinging refrain with really nice guitar soloing. Very cool. Swing track, Happy Wife, Happy Life, Happy Home is another really cool track with some of Gindick's best vocals and overall great track. I just received the newest release, Stranger's Blues from Hot Roux and it's got real style. Opening with 2 stepper, Broken Again , drummer and lead vocalist, Jerry McWorter sets the pace and Ed Berghoff supplies the country styled guitar riffs, backed by Brent Harding on bass. Title track, Stranger's Blues , has an interesting mix of Latin rhythm and swampy guitar sounds. Franck Goldwasser really dices it out with chipper guitar riffs that really give this track a unique feel. Very nice! Shuffle track, Woman Where You Been , opens with tight blues guitar riffs by Tommy Harkenrider who continues with rock a billy riffs throughout. Jacob Huffman shows really nice phrasing on harp nicely complimenting McWorter's vocals. Seven Lonely Nights is a country blues with some real cool slide work from Goldwasser, over a solid bass riff by Harding and nice vocal harmonies between McWorter and Harding.
