Mitch Woods has spent over forty years keeping the absolute best styles of American roots music alive and kicking. Originally from Brooklyn, he eventually headed out west and carved out a legendary reputation for blasting high-energy jump blues, stride piano, and infectious boogie-woogie. Whether he is ripping up the keys backed by his full band or holding down the stage entirely on his own, his style is all about raw groove and good times. Deeply influenced by icons like Fats Domino and Professor Longhair, Mitch infuses that authentic, piano-pounding rhythm and blues spirit into everything he touches, turning every single performance into an absolute celebration.

The Deep Dive
Mitch Woods plays live in rolling boogie style piano blues, with a driving energy from the very first note. Opening with Woods' original track, Rock That Boogie, with Woods on vocals and his steady eight-to-the-bar structure immediately sets a definitive pace. Woods seamlessly transitions into regional syncopation with Mojo Mambo, blending crisp, right-hand accents with a deep New Orleans bass groove. Rolling it off his vocal style this is thick. On  Choo Choo Chboogie made popular by Louis Jordan, Woods whoops it up and his clean articulation on piano clean timing gives the track spunk. Blue Monday has that dark, early blues rock feel with supple vocals and piano accompaniment. Amber Lee is another original and has super New Orleans style piano articulation under Woods pure vocals. Jackie Brenston's Rocket 88 is a strong boogie with a great rolling piano bottom. Woods really knows how to dig in and this track is a perfect illustration.  Woods' original, Cryin for My Baby is my favorite track on the release with soulful vocals and highlighted piano work.  Huey Smith's  Rockin Pneumonia and The Boogie Woogie Flu, was a strong track by the Clowns and made popular by Johnny Rivers in the 70's. Woods rolls the piano and engages the crowd with chants and noted spacing.  Wrapping the release is driving boogie, Shake Rattle and Roll. This is a real rocker and a super closer for a hot boogie piano release.

Even if you aren't normally into this genre, you can still easily appreciate how great the musicianship is. The performer effortlessly locks down those heavy New Orleans grooves, delivers some really solid vocals, and gets the crowd hyped up with plenty of fun energy before bringing the whole show to a rocking finish.

This high-energy live album delivers such incredibly solid, old-school keyboard pounding and undeniable groove that anyone can appreciate the sheer talent and musical craftsmanship on display.
