I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Stone Cold , from Russ Green , and it's a driving blues rocker. Opening with Lint Redux , you are immediately in the middle of a swampy blues with modern effects. With a firm foot stomp by Felix Pollard on drums and Vic Jackson on bass Russ Green on harmonica and vocals really has the earthy feel. Giles Corey on slide gives the track great grease and Green's harp work is strong. Excellent opener. 12 Feet of Water opens with a terrific harmonica aria before grinding into a super drum driven romp. With the feel that I can only describe as Hill Country , Green delivers such soulful vocals, comforted by Joe Monroe on keys, this track just grabs you. Green's harmonica is like a shuddering wind blowing through you with the thumping bass of Vic Jackson and Vince Agwada on guitar. Excellent! I just received the newest release, I Mean Business from Lara Price and it's got spunk. Opening with R&B track, Get It When I Want It, Price leads the way on vocal backed by Derrick Martin on drums, Steve Evans on bass, Kid Andersen on guitar, Micheal Peloquin on sax, Micheal Rinta on trombone, Mike Rose on trumpet, Sue McCracklin and Maureen Smith on backing vocals. With it's Motown overtones, this track is cool! With a bit more of a Memphis sound, Cryin' Over You has a smooth, soul sound. With warm horn backing, Smith and McCracklin on backing vocal and with Mighty Mike Schermer on lead guitar, this track has strong commercial potential. With a Latin rhythm, traces of Procol Harem and a thick thread to Bond themes, Undone dances along nicely. Schermer rips a clean guitar solo punched up by the horn section and the driving bass work of Evans. Moon In The Mirror has super balance and may be my favorite track on the release. Price's vocals are creamy smooth with an almost Smokey Robinson feel. Excellent! Crazy Lucy is a sassy 2 stepper with tight instrumental backing and warm backing vocals. With a catchy melody, another solid radio track. Happy Blue Year slows things way down setting up a track with real sway. Price's lead vocals on this track are clear and seem to float on the bed of keys and backing vocals. Schermer's funky guitar work on this track has real sting and authority. Very smooth! High steppin', Slipped Tripped Fell In Love, struts in with attitude and punch. Funky, Pack It Up is a heavy footed, stomper with cocky horn work. On top of Price's solid vocals, lead guitar work on this track by Laura Chavez is mighty fine with some explosive riffs. Very nice! Smooth and slinky, Time, has the musical sensitivity of I'd Rather Go Blind, but with a more contemporary rhythm and drum riffs. I really like Chavez's guitar soloing on this track and really it rips. On title track, I Mean Business, the band gets a revival kind of tent raising feel with clean guitar riffs. Very cool! One Tear At A Time has a solid strut reinforced by stinging guitar riffs by Mr.Chris Cain and tight horn work. Super! Wrapping the release is Love Lost, a soulful ballad with a nice melody and nicely placed guitar riffs by Kid Andersen. A nice conclusion to a solid release.

Lucille Bogan (April 1, 1897 – August 10, 1948) was an American blues singer, among the first to be recorded. She also recorded under the pseudonym Bessie Jackson . The sexologist and music critic, Ernest Borneman , stated that Bogan along with Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith , was in "the big three of the blues". She was born Lucille Anderson in Amory, Mississippi , United States, and raised in Birmingham, Alabama . In 1916, she married Nazareth Lee Bogan , a railwayman, and gave birth to a son. She first recorded vaudeville songs for Okeh Records in New York in 1923, with pianist Henry Callens . Later that year she recorded " Pawn Shop Blues " in Atlanta, Georgia , which was the first time a black blues singer had been recorded outside New York or Chicago. In 1927 she began recording for Paramount Records in Grafton, Wisconsin , where she recorded her first big success, " Sweet Petunia ", which was covered by Blind Blake . Charles LoBue was one of the fathers of the custom electric guitar business. Charles came to the industry after taking classes from Michael Gurian, first working in and around the guitar repair business in NYC in the mid 60's. Charles' interest in the business began by doing basic repairs on factory made guitars. These were primarily made by Gibson and Fender, the "Gold Standard" for electric guitars, as well as any guitar including acoustics which came through the door. As a professional player in the U.S. in the 60's, Gibson and Fender were the most likely choices if you wanted an electric guitar. It is well known that the Brits used European made guitars as well, primarily due to their accessibility.
