Zac Harmon & The Drive - Live - New Release Review

Image
I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Live , from Zac Harmon & The Drive and it's super! Opening with soulful, NTRO , Nate Robinson on bass and Gino Iglehart on drums set a solid foundation, with Corey Lacy building on keys and lush guitar work by Zac Harmon and Kingston Livingston really setting the bar. Terrific opener. Blue Pill Thrill has super movement and soulful vocals by Harmon. Lacy on keys works the rhythm with Robinson and Iglehart and Livingston and and Harmon play stinging riffs on guitar really giving this track some kick. Deep blues track, Feet Back On The Ground features Albert King like stinging riffs and super soulful vocals by Harmon. Keeping the music floor low allows Harmon plenty of space to go dynamically from soft to wow quickly adding real emotion to the track. Excellent! Boogie Down is a strong jam with a firm piano base by Lacy giving Harmon plenty of headroom for vocal corralling. Lacy lays in some real tasty keyboar...

The King Hat Review

Image
The King Hat Review (KHR) is a multi-media stage musical extravaganza that tells the amazing story of American popular music and traces it's origins and history from where and when it all started: in the blues and folk-blues that emanated from porches, bayou docks and juke joints in the Deep South. With the help of a hand full of crazy pioneer DJs it spread all over the U.S. and the world, and has become the music we know and love today. Original American music, Blues, Rhythm & Blues, jazz, Rock & Roll & Hip Hop. The huge production consists of an amazing band, singers, dancers and video artists; as well as a multi-media production with giant projection screens, stunning sets, special stage effects and hot choreography, that all come together to take the audience on the historical journey of American popular music, the artists, their songs and the personal stories of how the DJs of each era discovered them and introduced them to the world. ...

Death Cab Blues - Bhakta Paul - New release review

Image
I just received and have had the opportunity to listen to the new Bhakta Paul release, Death Cab Blues. The recordings are a combination of traditional and original blues tunes played solo with acoustic accompaniment. Paul does a nice job to adapt the songs to his personal style and deliver traditional songs without changing them beyond recognition. If you like the acoustic blues, you may like to check this out. Enjoy

The Trail of Time - The Twilite Broadcasters - New Release Review

Image
I just got a copy of the new Twilite Broadcasters recording. It is a nice blend of tunes that I would associate more with bluegrass than blues. Most people don't realize how closely bluegrass (and real country) are to the blues... but relatives...not the same. I found the recording very well done and worth a listen if you can get your head around two part harmonies, acoustic mandolin and dreadnaught instead of stratocaster. Enjoy!

PEARLLEATHA JACKSON- Correspondent Mike Packer

Image
Gospel singer Pearl Jackson hails from Poughkeepsie New York. She began singing as a child and she was a third generation member of The Church Of God In Christ. Her mother the late Evangelist Bessie Mae Brown encouraged Pearl to sing with the choir. Pearl Jackson went on to perform with many in the gospel arena. She worked with The Mid-Hudson Chapter of Gospel Music of America under the leadership of the late great the Rev. James Cleveland. Her first group was the Pearson singers and performed on stage with gospel legend Pastor Shirley Caesar in North Carolina. She also sang with the Supreme Tones of Quality for four years. Recently Pearl Jackson has decided to go on her own singing the music she loves. Her first CD " Sweet Is His Love" is testimony to this. She not only sings about God's love through song and praise but practices it any her everyday day life. She is truly a remarkable lady with a lot of talent. She just doesn't talk the talk. She walks the walk. ...

A born music lover from Albany, New York, Christine Santelli began singing, playing, writing and performing at a very young age. Her talents lead her to form her first professional band, the now defunct Christine & the Dickens, while still in her teens; then came the touring. Today, Christine has a growing legion of devoted fans who can't get enough of her seemingly endless on-stage energy, and her powerful vocal delivery. It is Christine Santelli's golden voice that has kept the twenty-years-worth of fans she has garnered coming back for more. The soulful, gritty, honest and emotive sounds that come out of this petite powerhouse when she sings are unique, moving and instantly familiar and appealing. From a career rooted in the blues, to a never ending artistic journey that explores roots music at its finest, such is the tale of Christine Santelli.

My Left Eye Jumps - Scott Holt Band

Image
Holt caught rock ‘n’ roll fever when he was boy and his parents took him to his first concert: Elvis Presley. Today Presley’s trademark “TCB” with lightning bolt logo is tattooed on his right arm – a symbol of Holt’s fandom and work ethic. He also wears a tattoo of Jimi Hendrix. “When I was a teenager and discovered Hendrix, I’d never heard anybody play like that and I instantly knew what I wanted to do,” he recalls. “I begged my parents for a white Stratocaster and guitar lessons.” His first instrument was a cheaper electric, but with the help of a Hendrix savvy instructor Holt was on his way, developing the rudiments of his style. With Kudzu, you can hear echoes of Hendrix’s stinging vibrato and wah-soaked stringing booming through “Wicked Grip,” a dark-edged unadulterated rocker, and within the shimming chordal architecture of the album’s “The Fool.” Holt made his first step toward musical apprenticeship when his father took him to Chicago to hear bluesman Buddy Guy. “I had never...
