I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Pugnacious Records artist: Sean Riley & The Water - Stone Cold Hands - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Stone Cold Hands, from Sean Riley & The Water and it's an interesting blend of blues, rock, country and folk. Opening with Dance Me One More Time, a track with real New Orleans and Mississippi roots traces Sean Riley on vocal and guitar stirring the gumbo. With Dean Zucchero on bass, Mike Barras on drums, Phil Bream on organ, Sunpie Barnes on accordion, and real nice backing vocals by Tiffany Pollack, Megan Harris Brunious and Whitney Alouiscious Sanders, this is a solid opener. Cool, foot stomper, Truck Route Blues, features some real nice blues harmonica by Barnes, playing company with Riley on lead vocals. With a basic 2 step rhythm, this track is contagious. Jimmy Reeds easy shuffle, High and Lonesome is one of my favorite tracks on the release with solid vocal lead and tight guitar lead by Riley over stripped down Zucchero on bass and Barras on drums. Bluegrass jam, Rosie's Rag, is a really cool track featuring Riley on dobro, Zucchero on bass, Barras on drums, Breen on organ and Waylon Thibodeaux on fiddle. Excellent! Wrapping the release is up beat boogie, Shine A Little Stronger. With Riley upfront on guitar and vocal, backed by Pollack, Brunious, and Sanders, and pumped up organ by Breen the gospel overtones over Riley's slide work give this track the juice. Strong closer.
