I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Rare Danny Gatton Interview
Danny Gatton (September 4, 1945 – October 4, 1994) was an American guitarist who fused rockabilly, jazz, and country styles to create his own distinctive style of playing. A biography, Unfinished Business: The Life and Times of Danny Gatton by Ralph Heibutzki, was published in 2003. It has a voluminous discography. Gatton was ranked 63rd on Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Guitarists of all Time in 2003. On May 26, 2010, Gibson.com ranked Gatton as the 27th best guitarist of all time.

Interview at the old 8 X 10 Club in Baltimore. Interesting that he never mentioned Roy Buchanan as an influence; likely due to their on-going feud. But one listen and you can tell who his primary influence was. Those he mentioned were doubtless both influential and worthy.
ReplyDeleteBuchanan played a longstanding gig at the Crossroads Lounge in Bladensburg, MD. Gatton is the only guy who could give Roy a run for his money on the Telecaster and their rivalry in the DC/Baltimore area is legendary.
