Overton Music artist: Russ Green - Stone Cold - New Release Review

 I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Stone Cold , from Russ Green , and it's a driving blues rocker. Opening with Lint Redux , you are immediately in the middle of a swampy blues with modern effects. With a firm foot stomp by Felix Pollard on drums and Vic Jackson on bass Russ Green on harmonica and vocals really has the earthy feel. Giles Corey on slide gives the track great grease and Green's harp work is strong. Excellent opener. 12 Feet of Water opens with a terrific harmonica aria before grinding into a super drum driven romp. With the feel that I can only describe as Hill Country , Green delivers such soulful vocals, comforted by Joe Monroe on keys, this track just grabs you. Green's harmonica is like a shuddering wind blowing through you with the thumping bass of Vic Jackson and Vince Agwada on guitar. Excellent! This month, we offer two lovingly restored albums from 1973, both produced by soul
genius Swamp Dogg (aka Jerry Williams Jr), with more to come in the following months.
"Gag A Maggott" is now available on Vinyl & CD Digipack from the mailorder.

Re-released for the first time on vinyl since its original release in 1973, Swamp Dogg's "Gag A Maggott" was recorded at TK in Miami with an all-star cast. The CD Digipack version features two unreleased bonus tracks recorded live at KSAN radio in 1972, and includes a 6 page booklet with new liner notes and rare photos. The song "Choking To Death (From The Ties That Bind)" was recorded by Canned Heat in 1974.

Produced by legendary soul singer/ songwriter/producer Jerry Williams Jr., aka Swamp Dogg, and featuring Duane Allman on two songs, Irma Thomas' "In Between Tears" is finally back on vinyl with its original cover for the first time since 1973.
