Luke Winslow-King to release new album Everlasting Arms

*Album out on September 30 on Bloodshot Records

*Exclusive launch with Brooklyn Vegan of the new single, “Everlasting Arms”

+

Luke Winslow-King (www.bloodshotrecords.com/artist/luke-winslow-king) is releasing a new album Everlasting Arms on September 30 via Bloodshot Records. The pre-order sale link is available here (www.bloodshotrecords.com/album/everlasting-arms).

Winslow-King is a guitarist/singer/songwriter from New Orleans, LA by way of Cadillac, MI. Following his critically acclaimed Bloodshot Records debut The Coming Tide in 2013, LWK (for brevity’s sake) has been as hardworking a musician as they come. Subsequent tours in the United States and overseas with his singing partner (and now wife) Esther Rose and a mutating band (including the core of upright bassist Cassidy Holden, drummer Benji Bohannon, and trumpeter/keyboardist Ben Polcer) landed the group in front of larger audiences while sharing the stage with the likes of Jack White, Pokey Lafarge, Taj Mahal, Chris Thile, and Rebirth Brass Band. Winslow-King’s second release for Bloodshot in as many years, Everlasting Arms finds inspiration in the developmental experiences of life and has LWK & Co. building upon previous creative efforts with a wider scope, exploring a sonically and stylistically panoramic songwriting vision, carrying on in balancing tradition with modernity.

Brooklyn Vegan announced the album release and launched the lead single for the album-titled track, “Everlasting Arms.” You can listen to and share the track here: https://soundcloud.com/bshq/01-everlasting-arms-1/s-WIbkL?in=bshq/sets/luke-winslow-king-everlasting-arms-out-930/s-J8j5C

Bloodshot Records artist: Bobby Bare Jr.'s YOUNG CRIMINALS' STARVATION LEAGUE - Undefeated - New release Review

I just received the newest release (4/15/14), Undefeated, from Bobby Bare, Jr.'s Young Criminals' Starvation League and it's interesting and quite diverse. Opening with an catchy track, North Of Alabama By Mornin', Bare and his troop of musicians show that they mean business with grinding beat and gripping guitar riffs. If She Cared is a straight up pop track featuring bare on lead vocals blended nicely with Carey Kotsionis on backing vocals. Matt Rowland on keys takes a easy pace in a sort of Paul Hornsby fashion. The Big Time is another track with a light poppy sound with Richie Kirkpatrick and David Vandervelde on guitars/bass. Don't Wanna Know has a really melodic sound with a hit of a Pink Floyd melody. A very nicely blended vocal with Kotsionis and some cool guitar effects makes this one of the releases most memorable. The Elegant Imposter has a really unusual rhythm pattern and a cool melodic interlude. Title track, Undefeated, has a really interesting sonic backing with simple guitar, drums and bass. Backing vocals from Kotsionis along with Bare and Jordan Caress make this track an immediate track for airplay. Loosely ripped guitar solo in this track is the star of the release instrumentally. Excellent! My Baby Took My Baby Away is a quirky little ditty with a touch of the Beatles and a touch of Harry Nilsson (and possibly Tiny Tim). Blame Everybody (But Yourself) has some real soundtrack like characteristics and a poppy overtone but with a bit of David Bowie bite. Interesting. As Forever Became Never Again is another track with a strong melodic line, in this case really reminiscent of an Apple band with caliope feel. Don't Stand At The Stove wraps the release with a more rocking feel and floating guitar riffs. Overall this is a curious release with a lot of strong songwriting and interesting instrumental work. Check it out.

Bloodshot Records artist: Dex Romweber Duo - Images 13 - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Images 13, from the Dex Rommeber Duo and it's a full blown sub with everything. Opening with Roll On, an off tempo rocker with strong drumming from Sara Romweber and a driving guitar work from Dex. This track is a heavy metal/punk/surf track and I really like it! Long Battle Coming is wound much looser kind of like a blend between Johnny Cash, a classic western theme and Motorhead. Interesting touch. Baby I Know What It's Like To be Alone has a early 60's movie soundtrack feel to it, and with it's own standard for cool. The Who's So Sad About Us is a poppy tune like a mix of The Everly's, The Kinks and just 60's pop in general. Nice track with a lot of airplay potential. Prelude In G Minor is a slick instrumental with metal, rock, surf and progressive features. I like it! Blackout is an all out instrumental surf track and I am a sucker for new surf tracks. This is well done with that "Batman" like basis and simple guitar excursions. What's not to like? I Don't Want To Listen is a sappy ballad worthy of Elvis himself. You miss Elvis... here you go! Beyond The Moonlight is a straight forward rockabilly track with minimal instrumentation and authentic hand claps. Romweber tweaks up his guitar for just a moment to lay in a very simple guitar melody. Cool track. We'll Be Together Again is a well written ballad with a strong hook. Again this track could easily find it's way to the radio with it's solid melody. Blue Surf is pretty self explanatory. You like surf music...this is surf music plain and simple. Romweber really cranks the guitar up on this one and Sara is pushing all the way. Excellent! One Sided Love Affair is the best ballad on the release with a solid country style delivery and simple acoustic guitar accompaniment. Wierd (Aurora Borealis) is another track that stretches the mind with a Twilight Zone/ Outer Limits SiFi kind of sound feturing Melissa Swingle on saw. This release is serious but fun. I hope that you take the time to enjoy it.

Bloodshot Records artist: Lydia Loveless - Somewhere Else - New Release Review

I just received the newest release (February 18, 2014), Somewhere Else, from Lydia Loveless. This new release is quite pleasing with a pop country style but more meat than you would expect from the genre. Opening with Really Wanna See You, an uptempo rocker, Loveless has a sweet "Stevie Nicks" like voice and the band is quite tight. Wine Lips, a slower but mid tempo track has strong radio potential waith just a pinch of country in the guitar riffs setting it apart. Chris Isaak is a real nice track and showcases Loveless' vocal style quite well. With just a tinge of retro styling this is one of the best tracks on the release. To Love Somebody has light airy feel sound and a clear hook. Another track that could easily garner strong airplay. Hurts So Bad has a Philly soul with pop country style but with distinctive Loveless touches making it one of the most memorable tracks on the release. Head has a British sound but style keeping with contemporary pop country feeling another very cool track. Verlaine Shot Rimbaud is a quiet acoustic ballad with edge. Picking up texture and emotion as it grows, this is another track which could easily hit the charts. Somewhere Else opens with a soft pedal steel part just dabbing at country styling but remaining in the pop arena. Loveless really has an attractive voice and is likely to attract many regular listeners with this kind of outing. Everything's Gone takes one more step into the country with a more introspective ballad. Not masking it's intentions, I think this is one of the stronger compositions on the release. They Don't Know, a track made popular in the US by Tracey Ullman keeps it's basic pop outline but with just a twist of country and Loveless' seductive vocal timbre. This release really doesn't venture far into the blues arena but it is an enjoyable release.

Bloodshot Records artist - Nothin' But Blood - Scott H Biram - New Release Review

I've just had the opportunity to review the most recent release, Nothin' But Blood, by Scott H. Biram and it's really cool. Opening with Slow and Easy, Biram finger picks his way through a authentic western (cowboy) sounding track with not only clever dexterity but with an authoritative voice. Gotta Get To Heaven has a springy country feel with acoustic guitar and tambourine. Country riffs are inserted on electric guitar and Biram rattles off lyrics in a rhythmic pattern. Sounding like he's playing the track just for me and possibly a small intimate crowd gives the song a real personal feel. Alcohol Blues has a rockier feel with gruff vocals. You can just hear the the track getting ready to burst through the grind of the electric guitar and amp. A one man band, overdubbed electric guitar for soloing is necessary but cool. A nicely composed bar track this is a real ass kicker. Great sound. Never Comin' Home is a sweet ballad with traditional style country guitar playing. Biram had a very cool voice and it is nicely showcase along with his painterly lyrical writing on this track. Only Whiskey has a punky sound not unlike a blend of the Pixies and the White Stripes or a light version of the Dwarfs. I really like this track and regardless of the comparison, this track sounds extremely fresh. Jack Of Diamonds is the bluesiest track so far with slide guitar (resonator) and simple percussion with hill country style vocals. A good story teller, Biram could ride this train for quite some time, keeping his slide work efficient but vibrant. I especially like his explosive attack near the end of the track. Excellent! Nam Weed is an acoustic ballad showing an introspective view of life and loneliness (not unlike Neil Young from Gold Rush era). Backdoor Man, a rework of Willie Dixon's with a twist of Doors, track is very cool with almost "Wolf" like vocals. A simple, cool blues track with rudimentary guitar work is very effective. Church Point Girls is a rowdy punky blues track with a great driving guitar riff. With a lot of edge, and over driven guitar, I love this track. Settling back into an easy country style, Biram has the release at his fingertips, controlling a mack truck like a tonka toy. Supplementing his vocals and fluid guitar work with harp, this is another very cool track. Around The Bend opens with a very primitive sound like hill country. Leading to an electric barrage of great riffs and over driven metal sounding vocals, Biram wields a lot of power with just one instrument and his own voice. Going from the simplest of tiny acoustic sounds to the most over driven...Very cool. I'd like to see this in concert! Amazing Grace is done acapella with harp. Simple and straight forward. When I Die is a simple country ballad that could garner decent airplay if pushed. Done in a country/gospel style this is nicely done. Wrapping the release is classic blues track John The Revelator. Sung in matched vocals and in spiritual style and accompanied by slide and tambourine, the track has texture and grit. A very cool conclusion to a very cool release!

For “When I Die”

"The one-man band is a tour-de-force of gutbucket guitar squabble, vocals so feral they'll make you lock your doors at night, and a live set that goes down like a cocktail of whiskey, amphetamines and black-humored despair." — LA Times

+

Scott H. Biram (https://www.bloodshotrecords.com/artist/scott-h-biram) will release a new album Nothin’ But Blood on February 4, 2014. The full-length is Biram’s ninth overall album and fifth with Bloodshot Records. You can preorder the album here: https://www.bloodshotrecords.com/album/nothin-but-blood

Listen to “When I Die”:

Nothin’ But Blood was recorded at Biram’s home studio and Cacophony Studios in Austin, TX – the first time he recorded at an outside facility in several releases. The album features The Dirty Old One Man Band’s distinct songwriting cocktail, encompassing a penchant for sludge metal, the raw sucker punch of punk rock, profound truths of sentimental acoustic blues and country, the cleansing power of gospel hymns and spiritual ballads, and folk tales from the early 20th century.

When you boil it all down in a simmering cauldron, Nothin’ But Blood is storytelling about wrongdoing and redemption. Scott H. Biram’s music is from the soul, for the soul, of the soul – and with this album, the spiritual buckshot lodges deeper than ever.

In support of the new album, Scott will be touring nationwide in February and March with Larry and His Flask, with details to be announced soon.

INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIAN ROGER KNOX RELEASES
NEW ALBUM STRANGER IN MY LAND
TODAY, FEBRUARY 12

PLUS, THE LAUNCH OF HIS NEW SINGLE “BLUE GUMS CALLING ME BACK HOME” w/ KELLY HOGAN, JON LANGFORD AND OTHERS

Featuring producer/collaborator Jon Langford (Mekons, Waco Brothers), Charlie Louvin’s possible last recording, guest appearances from Kelly Hogan, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Dave Alvin (Blasters, X), the Sadies, Sally Timms (Mekons), Andre Williams, the Pine Valley Cosmonauts, and others.

Elegant, suffused with meaning and essential. – Canada.com

Both a revelation and a fine album in a style that seems timeless, Stranger in My Land should, in a fair and equitable world, bring Knox an appreciative audience in America, and it may well illustrate how much American country music has lost and left behind in its brazen pursuit of the pop charts. 4 out of 5 stars. – All Music.com

Part travelogue, part National Geographic special, and part crash sociology course, Stranger in My Land, the new album by Roger Knox is surely to be the most important album you will listen to all year, and might just be the most important album of the decade… Stranger in My Land is a five on a five scale listen. – Cool Album of the Day

To commemorate the album release, we would like to share a song stream from Stranger In My Land, the Kelly Hogan and Sadies featuring “Blue Gums Calling Me Back Home.” You can listen to the track here - http://soundcloud.com/bshq/roger-knox-and-kelly-hogan - and embed/share the song via Facebook, Twitter, etc.

You can order the new album at your favorite online retailer or over at Bloodshotrecords.com.

Bloodshot artist Jon Langford (Mekons, Waco Brothers) met Roger Knox – the Koori King of Country or Black Elvis – on a visit to Australia several years ago and, when he heard Roger’s story and captivating music and the potentially-soon-to-be-lost subculture of this utterly unique cultural collision (a.k.a. Indigenous Australian country/western music), knew he had to put out his next record. Stranger In My Land is a collection of songs originally written by Indigenous Australian artists who were Knox’s predecessors, some tunes previously recorded but difficult to find as well as several unrecorded, handed-down folklore songs (which without this recording, could be lost forever). It is powerful and moving material, suffused with longing, alienation, resilience and hope; universal themes arising out of a previously unexplored context. It carries the weight of a Harry Smith document, but with a spirit that remains relevant in today's world.
