"I love to pay tribute to those who influenced me, but at the same time, I like to be true to who I am" explains M'ore, whose influences include guitar greats Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, Joe Satriani, Johnny Winter, and Albert King.                              David M'ore - Some Background   From the beginning, traditional Blues and British Neoclassical Hard Rock played a very important role in the evolution of the David M'ore style. Born in Argentina, he picked up an old guitar that his Godfather bought him for his eighth birthday and immediately began to explore vintage records. "The aggressive sound of the guitar drove me emotionally insane", M'ore says. "I still listen to those old records from Johnny Winter. That's where it all began".    A born troubadour, M'ore frequently moved around the world as well as throughout the U.S. before finally settling in Hollywood in 1990. After the split-up of his band Blind Hole and his refusing to accept the oncoming Grunge Movement, M'ore escaped to Sacramento in 1993, winning a Sacramento Music Award there in the process.   If you're a fan of excellent guitar playing and enjoy hard rock that strays towards the blues rather than heavy metal, it's likely David M'ore's expressive and explosive guitar attack is for you  . Concord Records artist: Danielle Nicole - Wolf Den - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Wolf Den, from Danielle Nicole, and it's dynamite! Opening with title track, Wolf Den, Danielle Nicole who has a super voice leads the way on vocal, playing a funky cool bass riff highlighted by Mike "Shinetop" Sedovic's keyboard work. Very nice opener. Anders Osborne sets the stage for, How You Gonna Do Me Like That, an R&B style track with solid vocals, a great bass riff and tight drums by Stanton Moore. Shinetop takes a nice keyboard solo on this track giving it an authentic "era" feel and Nicole shines on bass. On soul ballad, Take It All, Nicole really shines on vocal and her bass work is spot on. A simple yet clean and tasty guitar solo from Osborne gives Nicole a vocal breather but this track is all soul and solid. Rocker, You Only Need Me When You're Down, has a great driving tom tom rhythm and over driven guitar tone from Osborne. A breakout guitar solo highlights this track with it's Spencer Davis like feel. Very cool! Somber ballad, Just Give Me Tonight, shows extremely expressive vocal work on Nicole's part. Osborne digs down with a really nicely phrased guitar solo of his own, making this one of my favorites on the release. Easin' Into The Night has strong commercial potential with it's easy feel, strong melody and an almost Bonnie Raitt feel. Didn't Do You No Good has a rock beat with just a twist of country and a pinch of soul. Putting me in mind of a contemporary Aretha track, Rock Steady, this track has great movement with strong vocal from Nicole, really cool bass riffs from Nicole, a hard driving bottom from Moore and rock guitar from Osborne. Super! On Waiting For Your Love, Nicole shows the composure of Stevie Wonder with really really nice vocals and excellent guitar work from Luther Dickinson. One of my favorite contemporary funky blues tracks, I Feel Like Breakin' Up Somebody's Home, is up next and Nicole sounds like she means business. Her vocals are powerful, her bass work authoritative and with super guitar work by Dickinson, this track slams it! It Ain't You is a solid R&B style radio track which makes you take a few double takes at the photo on the CD cover, to believe that that voice is coming out of that lady. Very nice! New Orleans flavored, In My Dreams, gets a great drum rhythm from Moore and bass line from Nicole. Her vocals are solid and natural and with the addition of slick guitar riffs from track author, Anders Osborne and flavorful key work from Shinetop, this track will get you squirming in your seat. Wrapping the release is super funky, Fade Away. This is a really nice track to conclude such a hot release with an almost Little Feat styling and Nicole's bass riffs and sassy vocals leave you wanting more. This really is an excellent release and one that definitely suggest that you check out!

Glenn Frey has passed - My thoughts are with his family

Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist for Eagles, died Monday. He was 67.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our comrade, Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016,” the band said in a statement. “Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia. The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery. Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.”
Frey wrote and provided vocals for many Eagles hits, including “Heartache Tonight,” “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Tequila Sunrise” and “Take It Easy.”
The musician, with Don Henley, also co-wrote “Hotel California” and “Desperado.” Eagles won six Grammys and five American Music Awards during its run, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
Frey also had a successful solo career after Eagles broke up in 1980. His debut solo album, 1982’s “No Fun Aloud,” contained such Top 40 hits as “The One You Love,” “Smuggler’s Blues,” “Sexy Girl,” “The Heat Is On,” “You Belong to the City,” “True Love,” “Soul Searchin’,” and “Livin’ Right.”
He had an acting career as well, landing a role in the first season of “Miami Vice.”

Delmark Records artist: Magic Sam Blues Band - Black Magic - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Black Magic, from Magic Sam Blues Band and it's nothing short of great! Magic Sam passed only days before the original release of Black Magic back in 1969 and this shows Sam with his allstar studded band and a few additional/alternate tracks. Opening with Roscoe Gordon's, I Just Want A little Bit, Sam leads the way on guitar and vocal for a snappy blues rocker. The great Eddie Shaw is right there blowing a great sax solo and Sam handles guitar with Mighty Joe Young. What Have I Done Wrong has a cool R&B underpinning supported by Lafayette Leake on piano, Mac Thompson on bass, and Odie Payne on drums. Willie Dixion's classic, Easy Baby has a super soul feel with strong horn work from Shaw. With it's Boogaloo style, Sam has this track hopping. Slick guitar work and rolling rhythm gives this track extra spark. Lowell Fulsom's, It's All Your Fault Baby has a great unique take showcasing Sam's vocal styling and tidy guitar riffs. Shaw's sax work gives the track depth and classic double stops and beautiful guitar runs make this one of my personal favorites on the release. Don Nix's Same Old Blues has a great swing and excellent solo's from both Sam and Eddie. Excellent! I really love Sam's take on You Don't Love Me Baby with a great tempo and spicy riffs from Shaw and Sam. Freddie King's San-Ho-Zay is a crisp rocker with Sam hittin the strings just right. You Better Stop is a really nice slow blues number with fluid "Magic Sam" riffs over Eddie Shaw tone and Leake piano riffs giving it just perfect balance on Payne's snappy drumming. Excellent! Otis Rush's Keep On Loving Me, Baby really gets up and goes. Sam leads the way with clean, simple guitar riffs, echoed by Shaw and grounded by Thompson and Payne. What Have I Done Wrong (alt)is tight with alternate vocal tracks. The alternate on I Just Want A Little Bit has some great sax work by Shaw so make certain you catch this! The alternate on Everything's Gonna Be Alright has a great feel and stinging guitar solo. Keep On Doing What Your Doing has a great Chicago feel with warm sax from Harris and cool guitar riffs from Sam, coupled with his soulful vocals...very nice! Blues For Odie Payne is a real hot one with Sam and Young each taking an excellent solo before letting Eddie off the chain for a super solo as well. Excellent! The alternate for Same Old Blues has a great groove and Sam is in it. Dig his guitar phrasing on this one! The alternate 2 on What Have I Done Wrong is a great R&B number with super vocals and close work between Shaw and Sam. Wrapping the release is the alternate to Keep On Loving Me, Baby with high energy and powerful vocals. Sam's guitar work is clean and concise speeding to a conclusion about to erupt. Excellent ending to an excellent release! Also included is an excellent 16 page booklet with some great photos and notes not published before.

Ruf Records artist: Laurence Jones - What's It Gonna Be - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, What's It Gonna Be, from Laurence Jones, and it has a bluesy, pop rock release. Opening with title track, What's It Gonna Be, Laurence Jones shows poise and polish on a solid radio rocker. Don't Need No Reason has contemporary rock lines but blues roots. Backed by Roger Inniss on bass and Miri Miettinen on drums, Jones plays some flat rock out riffs, then changing to a laid back shuffle rhythm and bluesy ruffs on this cool track. On Evil, the band grinds into a cool blues rock groove and Jones takes a meaty solo showing his patience as well as his explosive nature. Very cool! Touch Your Moonlight has a Eagles of Death Metal pop rock style. I really like the attack and tightness backed by building guitar intensity. Soulful ballad, Don't Look Back features Jones with Sandi Thom on vocals. This is a really simple pop track with nice duet work and straight bluesy guitar riffs for strong radio appeal. All I Need is a straight up pop rocker with warm support from Julian Grudgings on keys. Being Alone has a catchy melody and strong commercial potential with the starch of 38 Special.Led Belly's Good Morning Blues gets a nice redo with a Willie Dixon/Paul Rogers blend. I particularly like Jones' guitar work on this track combined with it's large step rhythm making it my favorite on the release. Bad Company's Can't Get Enough get's a pretty straight up cover with Dana Fuchs joining on lead vocal with Jones. Was a classic hit 40 years ago...why not now? Set It Free is really well constructed with a lead guitar riffs as memorable as Bob Seger's Main Street or Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street and again with a strong melodic nature and backing vocals by SJ Mortimer, making it a solid radio player. Wrapping the release is "country" rocker, Stop Moving The House, with driving piano work from Grundings and mature vocals and guitar slinging from Jones. Solid conclusion to Jones' newest.

David M'ore - Passion, Soul & Fire - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Passion, Soul & Fire from David M'ore and it's smokin! Opening with The Devil's Land, a really crisp Texas blues rocker it brings to mind the late great Stevie Ray and his intensity but with a voice that is a cross between Billy Gibbons and Howlin Wolf. Yeah, think about that. This is a super track and one that really hits the spot with M'ore slashing his way on lead guitar and joined by Wade Olson on drums and David De Silva on bass. Excellent! Love Again really hits ZZ Tops' old sound with the gravelly vocals and lead bass rumble. With an aggressive attack and atmospheric backing, M'ore rips a really nice solo on guitar. Stronger Thank I Realize has a almost floating feel along the lines of Robin Trower. M'ore has his own heat and his guitar work really never sounds like someone else. It is straight and tight and aggressive. Very cool! Johan Sebastian Blues rings in my ears with a touch of ZZ Top and a touch of classically oriented Dutch rock giants, Focus. This is a cool, adventurous track with ripping guitar work and great rock beats. You Said That You Love Me is one of those rock giant blues tracks that bands only come up with once in their careers if they're lucky. This is M'ore's, Since I've Been Lovin You (Led Zep) with vocals like Leslie West. Crankin' in at over 10 minutes, sit back, kick up your feet, close your eyes and cruise. Excellent!! Sweet Little Baby opens with simple acoustic guitar riffs but soon blossoms into a fat, sliding machine with thick, greasy vocals. This track has an orchestral Euro feel and solid blues riffs back to back. The 12 Song opens with a Jeff Beck (Willie Dixon) riff and opens into a cool shuffle with creamy guitar tones. M'ore does an excellent job of setting a warm stage for himself to solo over making this another track that really smokes. Cold Blooded is basic rocker with a catchy guitar romp. Every Time I Think Of You is another of my favorite tracks on the release with an Albert King underpinning but with modern blues rock guitar swagger. Very cool! Funky It Up is an interesting track with a light funky bass riff and rock drums but with a more light metal guitar attack. A cool instrumental that hits you just right. Liar returns to the Texas shuffle style with a dominant walking lead blues line. M'ore never lets up on this one, delivering smoking guitar riffs beginning to end. Wrapping the release is Mistreated, a straight forward rocker with a foot on the throttle guitar style never stopping but shifting from 3rd to 5th for tension. Very nice closer to a really super release!

Hurricane Ruth Publishing artist: Hurricane Ruth LaMaster - Winds Of Change - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Winds Of Change, from Hurricane Ruth LaMaster and its a powerhouse. Opening with boogie woogie track, I Feel Lucky, Hurricane Ruth takes charge on lead vocals backed by Brian Curtis on keys, Doug Wilcox on trombone, Mike Gilette on tenor sax, Sande Hackel on bari sax, Frank Huston on guitar, Gary Davis on bass and John Sluzalis on drums. Dick Garretson takes a nice trumpet solo and Curtis really hits the keys. Smokin! Willie Dixon's Built For Comfort is low slung and Ruth is laying it on thick. Huston sets down a greasy guitar solo and the horn section really riches up the mix. Ruth sells Percy Sledge's, When A Man Loves A Woman, as a simple soul ballad with plenty of feeling and the horn section adds punch. Wrapping the release is Delbert McClinton's Going Back To Louisiana with Dixie swing. Ruth really lays it out there on this one with nice guitar runs by Huston and splashes of horns throughout. Cool closer for a cool release.
