Opiniones:

“En una época en donde las leyendas del género se despiden de los escenarios, es conmovedor encontrar artistas como McCray, quien además de aportar una excelente voz y una exquisita técnica en la guitarra, aporta tal vez lo más importante del blues: el sentimiento”.

The New York Times - 2011

The Jackpots:

Damián Duflós – Armónica y Voz

Rafo Grin – Guitarra y Coros

Músicos Invitados:

Mariano Iglesias - Batería

Charly ArosBajo

Biografía - The Jackpots

Living With The Blues - Cliff Aungier

9 April 1941, Croydon, Surrey, England, d. 12 March 2004. It was while watching a television documentary about ‘Big’ Bill Broonzy that Aungier was inspired to buy his first guitar. Before that he played trumpet for the Air Training Cadets, and aspired to be a pilot in the Royal Air Force. From his early influences, and having seen Broonzy playing, Aungier soon adapted his own style. He began playing the obligatory floor spots in folk clubs, when Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and Alexis Korner were on the circuit. Later, with Gerry Lockran and Royd Rivers, Aungier started a folk and blues club at the Half Moon in Putney, London. His 1965 debut album Wanderin’ was produced by Jimmy Page and featured the work of harmonica player Royd Rivers. Aungier recorded an album for Polydor Records in 1968, and another for RCA Records the following year, neither of which were released. He did, however, receive a silver disc for his cover version of Tim Hardin’s ‘The Lady Came From Baltimore’.

Gradually, with the media hype machine in full swing, Aungier lost faith in the way his music was being presented and left the scene for a while. Disillusioned at the lack of control over his own work, he spent much of his time performing in Belgium and the Netherlands, with only the occasional appearance in the UK. Later, with no contractual obligations to hinder him, Aungier recorded 1984’s Full Moon, with a line-up that included Paul Millns (vocals/piano), Micky Moody (guitar), Nigel Portman-Smith (bass), Nic Pentelow (saxophone) and Chris Hunt (drums). The album featured a diversity of material, from ‘You Win Again’ by Hank Williams, to Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s ‘I Need You To Turn To’.

Throughout his career, Aungier toured with acts such as Yes, Elkie Brooks, Ralph McTell, Pentangle, Joan Armatrading and Fairport Convention. He also performed regularly with his own Full Moon Band. Additionally, he presented a weekly folk and blues radio series for a regional network and also The Rhythm And The Blues for the UK Forces Broadcasting Service

Jack of Spades - Mance Lipscomb

Mance Lipscomb (April 9, 1895 – January 30, 1976) was an American blues singer, guitarist and songster. Born Beau De Glen Lipscomb near Navasota, Texas, United States, he as a youth took the name of 'Mance' from a friend of his oldest brother Charlie ("Mance" being short for emancipation).
Lipscomb was born April 9, 1895 to an ex-slave father from Alabama and a half Native American (Choctaw) mother. Lipscomb spent most of his life working as a tenant farmer in Texas and was "discovered" and recorded by Mack McCormick and Chris Strachwitz in 1960 during the country blues revival. He released many albums of blues, ragtime, Tin Pan Alley and folk music (most of them on Strachwitz' Arhoolie label), singing and accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. He had a ffinger-picking guitar technique, and an expressive voice. Lipscomb often honed his skills by playing in nearby Brenham, Texas, with a blind musician, Sam Rogers. His debut release was Texas Songster (1960). Lipscomb performed old songs like "Sugar Babe," the first song he ever learned, to pop numbers like "Shine On, Harvest Moon" and "It's a Long Way to Tipperary".

Trouble in Mind was recorded in 1961, and released on a major label, Reprise. In May 1963, Lipscombe appeared at the first Monterey Folk Festival in California.

Unlike many of his contemporaries, he did not record in the early blues era, but his life is well documented thanks to his autobiography, I Say Me for a Parable: The Oral Autobiography of Mance Lipscomb, Texas Bluesman, narrated to Glen Alyn, which was published posthumously, and also a short 1971 documentary by Les Blank, A Well Spent Life.

He died in his hometown of Navasota in 1976, two years after suffering a stroke.

Matchbox - Carl Perkins

Carl Lee Perkins (April 9, 1932 – January 19, 1998) was an American rockabilly musician who recorded most notably at Sun Records Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, beginning during 1954. His best known song is "Blue Suede Shoes".

According to Charlie Daniels, "Carl Perkins' songs personified the rockabilly era, and Carl Perkins' sound personifies the rockabilly sound more so than anybody involved in it, because he never changed." Perkins' songs were recorded by artists (and friends) as influential as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Johnny Cash, which further cemented his place in the history of popular music.

Called "the King of Rockabilly", he was inducted into the Rock and Roll, the Rockabilly, and the Nashville Songwriters Halls of Fame; and was a Grammy Hall of Fame Award recipient.

THREE HANDED WOMAN - B. B. and THE BLUES SHACKS

At the age of 13, Andreas Arlt gets his first guitar. Since then, he has flatly refused to ever put it down again. He gets just two guitar lessons, the rest of his tuition is absolutely self-taught. In the course of the years, he investigates the complete spectrum of musical styles, until – during the 1980s – he stumbles upon the order form of his current record label – “Crosscut” – specializing in the Blues. The Hildesheim boy orders a pile of discs and dives deeply into this truly traditional American music. With this move, the guitarist, who is traeded as one oft he best in Europe, has found his direction. He proceeds to infect his brother Michael (vocals and harp) with this particular kind of fever, and in 1989 they start the band "B.B. & The Blues Shacks".

On the 20th May, 1994, the band gets the chance to appear at Bremen´s big cultural event, the „Breminale“, depping as substitutes for indisposed colleagues. DThey take this opportunity by the throat, and they truly boogie themselves into their first record contract.

Meanwhile, they have achieved well over 2000 gigs, recorded ten albums, and they are hailed as the German Blues band. The five-piece eternally tours all over Europe, but their sojourns also lead them to Russia and America.

It´s easy to determine what fascinates them in terms of their chosen field, R´n´B and Soul. Andreas Arlt: It´s the music that touches us. There are those songs which call up those feelings so authentically as if we had just created them.” The five musicians (Henning Hauerken, who really hits the accelerator pedal with his double bass, Dennis Koeckstadt – the beautiful boy with tons of feeling on the piano, Bernhard Egger - specially imported from Austria to supply those Blues Shacks drums) around the Brothers Arlt have never been bulldozed by Hip-Hop or Indie Rock.

Lil Ed Williams and the Blues Imperials with special guest Joe Louis Walker

Lil' Ed Williams (born April 18, 1955, Chicago, Illinois, United States) is an American blues guitarist, singer and songwriter. With his backing band, the Blues Imperials, slide guitarist Williams has built up a loyal following
Williams and his half-brother James "Pookie" Young, received childhood encouragement and tutelage from their uncle, J. B. Hutto, and by 1975 the half-siblings had formed the first version of the Blues Imperials.

A decade later and Alligator Records offered them the chance to record for a forthcoming compilation album. In the event they cut a full album's worth of material that was released as Roughhousin' (1986). They then appeared at music festivals and toured widely. Their second album release was entitled, Chicken, Gravy & Biscuits (1989), and their third LP, What You See is What You Get was issued in 1992. At this point the group disbanded, while Williams issued two solo albums; Keep On Walking, followed by Who's Been Talking (1998), the latter with Willie Kent.

In 1999 the release of Get Wild marked the group's reunion, and has been followed in subsequent years with Heads Up (2002), Rattleshake (2006), and Full Tilt (2008) .

In June 2008, Williams and the Blues Imperials appeared at the Chicago Blues Festival. The same year Williams guested on Magic Slim's album, Midnight Blues. In June 2009, Williams appeared as a guest on the radio quiz game show, produced by Chicago Public Radio and National Public Radio, Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!

Tommy McClennan - Bottle It up and Go

Tommy McClennan (April 8, 1908 – circa 1962) was an American Delta blues singer and guitarist.
McClennan was born on a farm near Yazoo City, Mississippi, United States, and grew up in the town. He played and sang blues in a rough, energetic style.

He made a series of recordings for Bluebird Records from 1939 through 1942 and regularly played with his friend Robert Petway. He can be heard shouting in the background on Petway's 1942 recording "Boogie Woogie Woman". McClennan made an immediate impact in 1940 with his recordings of "Shake 'Em on Down", "Bottle It Up and Go", "Whiskey Head Woman" and "New Highway No.51".

He left a powerful legacy that included "Bottle It Up and Go," "Cross Cut Saw Blues" later covered by Albert King, "My baby's gone" (covered and adapted by Moon Mullican), "Deep Blue Sea Blues" (aka "Catfish Blues"), and others whose lasting power has been evidenced through the repertoires and re-recordings of other artists. McClennan's "I'm A Guitar King" was included on the 1959 collection issued by Folkways Records, The Country Blues.

Although nothing is known of what happened to Petway, McClennan was occasionally seen in Chicago with Elmore James and Little Walter, two other artists who came from the Delta. McClennan is reported to have died from alcoholism in poverty in Chicago, Illinois, in 1962

Floyd Jones - Stockyard Blues

Jones was born in Earle, Arkansas, United States, on 8 April 1908. Raised in the church, he developed an interest in music at an early age and learned to play guitar after his brother bought an old broken guitar for $3. When he was proficient enough he started playing for country dances, and by 1939 had arrived in Chicago. In Chicago he became one of a number of musicians, performing on Maxwell Street and in non-union venues, who played an important role in the development of the post-war Chicago blues sound, often performing with his first cousin, singer and guitar player Floyd Jones. By the late 1940s he was capable of playing any kind of music requested, and had learned to play piano, banjo and bass (including a home-made bass made out of a wash-tub, a broom-handle and a clothes line), in addition to guitar. He was regarded by his contemporaries as the best guitar player on the Chicago scene, and was warned by noted slide guitar player Muddy Waters not to “fool with that slide” when Jones sat in with Waters’ band one night.
Moody Jones (April 8, 1908 - March 23, 1988) was an American blues guitarist, bass player, and singer, who is significant for his role in the development of the post-war Chicago blues sound in the late 1940s.
Jones is most significant, and best known, for his association with his cousin Floyd Jones and harmonica player Snooky Pryor, and for the singles he recorded with them in 1948 which were among the first recorded examples of the new style. The track

Chickenhead Man - T-Model Ford

James Lewis Carter Ford (born c. 1920, Forest, Mississippi, United States) is an American blues musician, using the name T-Model Ford. Unable to remember his exact date of birth, he began his musical career in his early seventies, and has continuously recorded for the Fat Possum label, then switched to Alive Naturalsound Records. His musical style melds the rawness of Delta blues. with Chicago blues and juke joint blues styles

According to records, Ford's year of birth is between 1921 and 1925. According to his half-sister (still alive in Tennessee), he was born in 1922. Starting with an abusive father who had permanently injured him at eleven, Ford has lived his entire life in a distressed and violent environment, towards which he is quite indifferent.

Ford, an illiterate, had been working in various blue collar jobs as early as his preteen years, such as plowing fields, working at a sawmill, and later in life becoming a lumber company foreman and then a truck driver. At this time Ford was sentenced to ten years on a chain gang for murder. Allegedly Ford was able to reduce his sentence to two years. He ensuingly spent many of his years in conflicts with law enforcement.

Currently, Ford resides in Greenville, Mississippi and for a time wrote an advice column for Arthur magazine. Reportedly, he has twenty six children.

According to music writer Will Hodgkinson, who met and interviewed Ford for his book Guitar Man, Ford took up the guitar when his fifth wife left him and gave him a guitar as a leaving present. Ford trained himself without being able to read music or guitar tabs. Hodgkinson observed that Ford could not explain his technique. He had simply worked out a way of playing that sounded like the guitarists he admired - Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf.

Ford toured juke joints and other venues, for a while opening for Buddy Guy. In 1995, he was discovered by Matthew Johnson of Fat Possum Records, under which he released five albums from 1997 to 2008.

Since 2008, Ford worked with the Seattle-based band, GravelRoad. The project began as a single event, with Ford needing assistance to play the Deep Blues Festival in Minnesota in July 2008. GravelRoad, long time fans of Ford and performers already scheduled for the festival, agreed to provide support for a ten-show US tour for Ford through July.

Ford had a pacemaker inserted at the end of that tour, but appeared on stage again with GravelRoad in 2008, 2009 and 2010. He suffered a stroke in early 2010, but despite difficulty with right-hand mobility, managed to complete a successful tour with GravelRoad. This tour concluded with an appearance at Pickathon Festival. Ford and GravelRoad opened the third day of the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival, in New York over Labor Day weekend, 2010, curated by American independent film-maker Jim Jarmusch.

GravelRoad backed Ford on his 2010 and 2011 albums, The Ladies Man and Taledragger, both released by Alive Naturalsound Records.

Watch Out, Girl - John Lee Granderson

Granderson's guitar work combines agile fingerpicking with a steady but understated rhythmic pulse; his harmonic and rhythmic conceptions reveal echoes of the Memphis-area string bands of his youth, especially on uptempo numbers like the title tune. This disc is both a significant historical document and a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience.

We are a couple of good mates, who have very similiar taste in good music. We have played in several different local bands over the last 10 years or so, but after just getting together every weekend for around a year getting very drunk and having a jam, we figured why the hell not let people hear our sound. To our complete surprise we found an audience of like minded people who also enjoy our take on good music. We play our take on the blues as good as 2 white guys from Scotland can.

We play deep down and dirty Mississippi Blues Rock, is our best description. Released our first EP on Big Rock Candy Records summer 2010. Album released 3rd July 2011.

THE NEAR THE JAIL grew in the shadow of the S. Teresa jail in Florence and are deeply connected with blues language. Through several musical experiences they came together again, 5 years later, to carry out their blues idea. The four performers are: Frederick Maguire (vocals) , Marco Enot (guitar) , Alessio Caselli (bass) , Vik Usai (drums). Their repertoire is vast: It varies from classic blues to rock/blues, winking at rock 'n' roll, several covers and their own pieces
