I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Wild Heart Records artist: Charlie Wooton Project - Blue Basso - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent release (August 23, 2019), Blue Basso, from Charlie Wooton Project and it's really good. Opening with funky rocker, Jaceaux, Wooton sets a terrific bass line with Keiko Komaki heating up the keys, Doug Winbish on bass and Jermal Watson on drums. Excellent opener. Rolling into a cool radio style R&B number, Arsene Delay has lead vocal on Reflections. Her vocals are sweet and float on the tune with glistening key work and jazzy guitar riffs by Daniel Groover. Come On Come Over has a great funky bottom, and instrumental style vocals, an aggressive bass line and a snappy drum line. One Night is a bluesy ballad with my favorite vocals by Delay. Anders Osborne sits in with a real nice guitar solo giving the track a bit more sting. Very nice. One of my favorite tracks on the release is Fulton Alley with really funky bass and guitar lines. This track, which really crosses over into fusion really humps. Excellent! Guitar wiz Sonny Lanreth steps up on Tell Me A Story and his wicked slide. Delay's vocals are deep and rich and with it's Latin framework, really cuts a nice swath. On Front Porch, an country style acoustic blues, Landreth is back and this time on resonator, paired with Wooton and Groover trading riffs. Very nice. Wrapping the release is the Rolling Stones, Miss You, with a hot New Orleans style drum line and really funky bass work from Wooton. Eric McFadden sets a melodic guitar lead trading off with Delay on vocal. As the track winds up it also winds out with a flurry of guitar riffs and that steady thumping bass line by Wooton. Very nice closer for a very cool release.

Wild Heart Records artist: Jonathon Long - Self Titled - New Release Review

I just had the opportunity to review the most recent self titled release from Jonathon Long and it's an fun rocky ride. Opening with Bury Me, with definite rock and country roots, Long leads the way with cocky vocals and solid guitar, joined by Julian Civello on drums, Chris Roberts on bass, Phil Breen on keys and additional guitar work by Samantha Fish. Soul track, That's When I Knew, has a super melody and pairs Long with Fish on vocals for a real nice blend and Fish's sting guitar riffs really punctuate the track nicely.  The addition of Michael Harvey on fiddle on  Americana style track, The Light works really nicely. Very clean and fresh. Shit kicker, Natural Girl has plenty of swagger and a solid hook. With solid vocals, top loaded piano, a ripping guitar solo and tight drums, this is a cool track. With a definite twist, Pour Another Drink is a great track. Smokey lines, sassy vocals, great piano texture and a solid bottom makes this my favorite on the release. R&B track, Where Love Went Wrong is a light poppy sound, a nice melody and warm jazzy guitar work by Long. Wrapping the release is blues rocker, Pray For Me with a powerful lumbering sound and Long's best vocals on the release. An aggressive guitar attack, paced by Roberts and Civello give this southern style track just the right kick to cement the closer.

Wild Heart Records artist: Julie C Myers - Rock On Fearless Journey - New Release Review

I just received the newest release, Rock On Fearless Journey, by Julie C Myers. Opening the release is a daring cover of ZZ Top's My Head's In Mississippi featuring Troy Lancaster on guitar, Tommy Harden on drums, David Dorn on keys and Steve Bryant on bass. Cool! Up next is a nice R&B track, Can't Get My Heart Around That. Myers teams with Tanya Hancheroff on vocals. Mike Rojas lays down a cool key part and Lancaster is back with smooth slide work. Your Eyes Are Telling On You is a pop rocker with a country twist. Dorn on synth adds depth and Harden's drumming is tight. Mark Douhit plays a nice sax intro to smooth pop jazz, Take A Horse To Water. The overall vocal mix and lead on this track makes it the radio favorite on the release. Ballad, Your Time Is Through, has an interesting country feel with vocal harmonies with Jason Nix and Hancheroff as well is what sounds like baritone guitar work. Nice. Your Side of Town is an interesting soul tune done to a light hip hop beat. Douhit's sax work as well as clean guitar riffs by Lancaster are notable. Broken Down Angel is a straight up country rocker with slick guitar riffs played against vocal harmonies. Rojas' piano work on this track is particularly cool and Lancaster pulls full modern country riffs on guitar. Baby Blue is a sweet love song with easy electric guitar by Dan Hodges and acoustic guitars by Pat McGrath. Look Out My Window - Still Raining goes without saying as a blues pop track with a bit of sting. Destination Unknown rolls back to the country edge with a 2 step feel. Vocal harmonies and horn work by Douhit give this track a lot of spunk. Hot Rod Heart has a definite country rock feel but with edges softened by Douhit on sax. Pop track, Dancing In The Moonlight maintains it's original light feel and easy feel with extended keyboards from Dorn. David Essex classic, Rock On shows it still has a lot miles on it with this new cover. Myers shows her versatility across the spectrum of musical styles.
