Blues Guitar Virtuoso Eric Gales To Perform With Lauryn Hill On The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon!

Blues Guitar Virtuoso Eric Gales To Perform With Lauryn Hill On The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon!

Los Angeles, CA - Superstar guitarist Eric Gales will be performing live with one of the most celebrated artists in modern R&B, ex-Fugee Lauryn Hill, on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon this July 30. The duo will perform “Feeling Good,” their collaboration for the Nina Simone tribute album Nina Revisited, which accompanies the release of a brand new Netflix exclusive documentary about the late singer called What Happened, Miss Simone? This is not the first time that these two talents have worked together - Hill tapped Gales to help her record studio tracks for her as yet unreleased follow-up album to the blockbuster The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill. Meanwhile, Gales’ own solo album Good For Sumthin’, released in October of last year, has been highly praised, and a new live CD/DVD recorded at The Viper Room is due to be released by the end of the year. Gales will also embark on a massive world tour taking him to India, Germany, and Sweden beginning at the end of this month. See below for dates.

Eric Gales came to national prominence in 1991 when he won Guitar World’s Best New Talent award. A brilliantly dynamic performer, Gales started releasing solo albums and wowing audiences in 2001 with a style and sound that frequently reminds listeners of the late great Jimi Hendrix, whose upside down Fender Strat playing Gales emulates. No wonder then that Gales was asked to headline the extremely popular Experience Hendrix Tour joining a line-up that includes a true who’s who of guitar masters including Eric Johnson and Zakk Wylde both of whom make guest appearances on Good For Sumthin’. Look for more releases from this extraordinary performer on Cleopatra Records!

Cleopatra Records artist: Eli Cook - Primitive Son - New Release Review

I just received the newest release (April 29, 2014), Primitive Son, from Eli Cook and it's a rockin, snarling blues guitar release. Opening with War Horse, Cook and gang (Wade Warfield on drums and Rob Richmond on bass) crank up a Led Zep feel with a southern twist. It has a mesmerizing groove and cool guitar riffs. Revelator has a bit more pop to it adding Vinny Appice (drums), Jorgen Carlsson (bass and B3) and Steffen Presley and Greg Hampton on backing vocals. Sweet Thang has a slinky sound and features Tinsley Ellis on additional guitar. High In The Morning, a southern influenced track features Sonny Landreth on some slick slide work. Reese Wynans adds some Vocals remind me quite a bit of Black Label Society. Won't Be Long is a real nice little acoustic ballad featuring Cook on acoustic slide and vocal. Motor Queen steps out with real attitude... a club swingin blues rocker with Leslie West joining on guitar. This track has a lot of attitude and is one of my favorites on the release. Be Your Fool, still with more of a rock blues swagger, features Rod Piazza on harp but certainly has more of the flavor of Led Zep, Skynyrd or G&R than the old masters but still quite entertaining. Swing A Little Harder is a stripped down track with only Cook on vocal, bass and guitar and Wade Warfield on drums. A blend of spoken lyrics and heavier rock gives it a different style sound. Again the closest thing that I can compare it to is BLS. With interesting guitar riffs and a solid beat... cool track. Shake The Devil Down is consistant with the bulk of the release with solid vocals and well executed guitar riffs over a solid bottom. Tall & Twisted is again accompanied by acoustic guitar and understated drums by Warfield and bass from Rob Richmond. Modern country blues. The Great Southern Love Kill has a hotter flame featuring Artimus Pyle on drums and Pat Travers on additional guitars. A more straight up blues rocker and an easier melody actually brings this track across a bit more crisply. Smokin hot guitar riffs on this track break the uneven but consistent drum rhythms. Amphetamine Saint has a real blues rock swagger. I like Cook's vocal style more on this track and guitar heavy Eric Gales adds nicely to the mix. Title track, Primitive Son, is more vocal heavy with instruments more in the back. A straight forward blues rocker, this track definitely demonstrates the relationship between blues and progressing metal. Wrapping the track is Burying Ground, a heavy blues rocker with interesting guitar work and a heavy drum beat. Cook is carving out a niche for himself in this heavy blues rock/metal sound and I'm certain he will find a strong audience.

Direct Music Distribution artist:The Bluesmasters - The Bluesmasters Volume Two - New Release Review

In dedication to Pinetop Perkins and Hubert Sumlin, both who played on this recording, a second volume of The Bluesmasters has been released. Featured are Mickey Thomas (vocals), Cassie Taylor (vocal and bass), hazel Miller (vocal),Eric Gakes (guitar) Rusty Anderson (guitar), Tim Tucker (guitar), Doug Lynn (harmonica), Aynsley Dunbar (drums), Larry Thompson (drums)and Ric Ulsky (Hammond B-3). First up is Sam Cooke's Bring It On Home To Me done jumps style with Taylor on vocals and Tucker kicking out a hot riff on guitar. Elmore James tune Talk To Me Baby gone swing shuffle again finds Taylor and Tucker rocking the joint with a cool harp riff from Lynn pushing Tucker on guitar. Johnnie Johnson standard Tanqueray gets a shuffle feel and Miller leads the way for a totally different feel altogether. Willie Dixon's I Just Want To Make Love To You gets a slinky feel. Don Nix ballad Same Old Blues features Taylor at her best and Tucker lays down a real strong guitar solo. I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water, made popular by Ella, features Thomas and Taylor trading lead vocals and Lynn on harp. Big Boss Man features Miller again on vocals stomping out the blues. Fine Cadillac done shuffle style features Gales on vocal and extensive guitar with Taylor and may be the best track on the recording. Thomas is back on Willie Dixon's Red Rooster and he sounds as good as ever. I particularly like the harp work by Lynn on this track. Robert Johnson's 3220 Blues is well managed by Taylor and group. Get Me A Car highlights Perkins on piano with Thomas on vocals alternating back and forth between the latin and shuffle rhythms. Jimmy Reed's Honest I Do again featuring Perkins and Taylor is done New Orleans style with some tasty guitar riffs added over top of the solid piano leading the way.

If you want some solid blues with traditional flavoring, this may be your ticket.

When You've Got No Place to Go - Eric Gales

Eric Gales (aka Raw Dawg) (born October 29, 1974, Memphis, Tennessee) is an American blues-rock guitarist, originally hailed as a child prodigy. As of 2011 Gales has recorded ten albums on major record labels, and has done session and tribute work. He has also contributed vocals on several records by the Memphis rap groups, Prophet Posse and Three 6 Mafia.
Gales picked up the guitar at age four. His older siblings, Eugene and Manuel (Little Jimmy King), took to teaching him many songs and licks at a young age, in the style of Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, B. B. King and others. In 1985, the young Gales began to play at blues competitions with his brother Eugene backing him on bass. Although Gales plays a right-handed guitar "upside-down" (with the E-bass string on the bottom), he is not naturally left-handed; he was taught by his brother who is left-handed and never second-guessed the untraditional technique.

In late 1990, Eric and Eugene Gales signed with Elektra Records, and together with drummer Hubert Crawford released 1991's The Eric Gales Band and 1993's Picture of a Thousand Faces. Guitar World magazine's Reader's Poll named Eric as "Best New Talent", in 1991. During this time he scored two rock radio hits, "Sign of the Storm" (#9 U.S. Mainstream Rock) and "Paralyzed" (#31 U.S. Mainstream Rock) and had spots on television programs such as The Arsenio Hall Show.

In 1994 Eric performed with Carlos Santana at the Woodstock 94' concert.

In 1995, Eric Gales teamed up with both of his brothers to record an album under the band name of The Gales Brothers. Left Hand Brand was released in 1996. 2001 saw Gales return with his album That's What I Am on MCA Records.

Gales has more recently released the albums Crystal Vision, The Psychedelic Underground,The Story of my Life and Layin' Down the Blues on the Shrapnel Records label. His most recent album is 2010's Relentless, with a new album for 2011 entitled Transformation due in August.

He maintains a strong friendship with record producer Mike Varney. Gales has one daughter, Jasmine (born 1992), and on August 31, 2001 he married Susan Gales.

In 2004, he contributed a cover of "May This Be Love" to the album Power of Soul: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix. In 2008, he, along with other guitarists, participated in the touring tribute to Jimi Hendrix, Experience Hendrix. the touring group of musicians included Billy Cox (of Band of Gypsys fame), Eric Johnson, Chris Layton (drummer for Stevie Ray Vaughan's rhythm section, Double Trouble), Doyle Bramhall II, Brad Whitford (of Aerosmith) and was the last tour that Mitch Mitchell played on.

In the winter of 2010, Gales returned to the touring circuit in Europe with TM Stevens on bass guitar and Keith LeBlanc on drums. The tour was billed as VooDoo Chile and featured works of Jimi Hendrix as well as original material from both Gales and Stevens.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

YES! WEEKLY PRESENTS THE 26TH ANNUAL CAROLINA BLUES FESTIVAL
26TH Year Brings Major National, Regional and Local Blues Artists to Greensboro

The Piedmont Blues Preservation Society has secured an all-star line-up of three national, one regional and
two local blues acts to perform at the 26th Annual Carolina Blues Festival, presented by YES! Weekly, under
the big tent at Festival Park in Downtown Greensboro, May 19.

Headlining the festival is Smokin’ Joe Kubek and Bnois King, two raucous, high–energy Texas roadhouse
bluesmen that perform blistering solos, irresistible shuffles and subtle ballads. Also appearing is Eric Gales, a
guitar phenom and dazzling soulful technician. Even though you might have seen him playing at the Hendrix
Experience held recently at the War Memorial Auditorium in March this left-handed virtuoso with the upsidedown
guitar is certainly no Hendrix clone. Our third national act is “The Georgia Songbird,” EG Kight, who has
been on tour opening for BB King. She’s a brassy, gutsy, blues singer and guitar player that can really belt out
the blues.

Joining our national acts is Mel Melton & the Wicked Mojos, a smoking’ hot Zydeco-Cajun band out of
Durham. They can really get the house up on its feet after they start cooking those Zydeco rhythms touched
with roadhouse blues. House of Dues is the PBPS Blues Challenge Band category winner performing New
Orleans Funk, Blues and R&B. Rounding out the line up is the Piedmont Blues Preservation Society’s Blues
Challenge Solo/Duo category winner, T.A. James, providing his blues guitar virtuosity with a modern take on
life and love.

Tickets are on sale now at www.piedmontblues.org, and can be purchased at the Carolina Theatre Box Office,
310 South Greene Street, (Mon-Fri hours are 12p to 5p), charged by phone, (336-333-2605), or online at

RED HOUSE - BILLY COX, JOHN D'AMATO, ERIC GALES, NIC LAURITANO

You might say that John D’Amato was born with the blues. John was born blue
due to a lack of oxygen caused by a congenital heart defect (which was
corrected at the age of nine). This led John down a different path than most
children, one of seemingly endless doctor visits and medical tests, lonely
hospital stays and painful medical procedures all of which were to determine if
they could correct John’s problem before it killed him. Fortunately through the
grace of God and a doctor at Yale University a surgical procedure was
developed that saved John’s life.

This experience had a profound effect on John
At an early age John learned the lessons of fear, pain and loneliness, but he also
learned the lessons of faith, hope, the grace and power of god and the healing
power of music. Ask John about the blues and his reply will be
“God gave us a way to help ease our pain. Help us forget our problems, our
fears, our mistakes and to cry to God for help and healing. That’s what the blues
is all about”

Here's Eric Gales' take on the National Anthem - Interview with Eric Gales

Blues guitar phenom Eric Gales was born and raised in Memphis, learning to play at age four from older brothers Eugene and Manuel in imitation of their upside-down, left-handed style (a tradition actually passed down from their grandfather, Dempsey Garrett, Sr., who was known to jam with the likes of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf). Winning his first blues contest at 11, four years later Eric signed to Elektra to issue his 1991 debut LP, recorded with Eugene on bass; Picture of a Thousand Faces followed in 1993. Manuel (who previously performed under the alias Little Jimmy King) reunited with his siblings for 1995's Left Hand Band, credited to the Gales Brothers.

A newly matured Gales returned in spring 2001 to release his debut for MCA, That's What I Am. Often billed as the second coming of Jimi Hendrix, Gales, an adequate singer at best but a dynamite guitarist, suffered for the comparison. Always influenced by Hendrix and the power trio format, Gales' next albums, 2006's Crystal Vision and 2007's Psychedelic Underground, both released by Blues Bureau Records, seemed like facsimile Hendrix albums, right down to the album art. His next two releases from Blues Bureau, 2008's The Story of My Life and 2009's Layin' Down the Blues,Relentless, found the Hendrix influence muted somewhat, but Gales, a breathtaking guitarist at times, still seemed to be looking for a way out of the Hendrix shadow and into his own voice. Gales returned in 2010 with a collection of 13 originals.

Little Wing - Tomo Fujita and Eric Gales

Tomo Fujita possesses all the elements of great musicianship: astounding technical ability, flawless rhythm skills, and a total command of his instrument. But if asked, Tomo would tell you that music is not just about playing. It’s about feeling. He has a remarkable ability to inject emotion into every phrase he plays, whether the style is blues, jazz, funk or rock.

Tomo earned a degree at Berklee College of Music and has been a faculty member at Berklee since 1993. Perhaps the most famous of his former Berklee students are Soulive guitarist Eric Krasno (Kraz) and John Mayer. Tomo is also affiliated with the major music schools in his native Japan. His articles have been published in the Japanese magazines Jazz Life and Jazz Guitar, and he is a regular contributor to the Japanese edition of Guitar magazine. His instructional materials are especially popular in Japan, where guitar players have bought more than 100,000 copies of his videos and books.

Tomo has performed with some of the best, including Phil Collins, John Mayer, James Genus (Saturday Night Live), Will Lee (Late Show with David Letterman), Kenwood Dennard (Jaco Pastorious, Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Smith), Darryl Jones (Miles Davis, Sting, Rolling Stones), Paul Jackson (Herbie Hancock, Headhunters), Ronnie Earl, Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, Steve Jordan and Susan Tedeschi. Tomo also enjoyed a guitar-playing gig in a Boston production of the musical Rent.

Influences: B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Pass, Larry Carlton, Ray Charles, James Brown, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and many others.
