As with last year’s unforgettable concert performances and audience participation celebrations, this year’s Rewind Scotland boasts another massive live outdoor line-up of the crème de la crème of 80s recording artists/performers.

Rewind Scotland will take place from Friday 20th July until Sunday 22nd July at Scone Palace, Perthshire, Scotland (www.scone-palace.co.uk).

Full details for ticket outlets and prices are available from the official Rewind Festival website - www.rewindfestival.com.

This year’s line-up is headlined by Big Country and Holly Johnson. Adam Ant & The Good, The Mad & The Lovely Posse are confirmed as very special guests. Other highlights include a rare appearance from Village People, Scottish icons Midge Ure, Jimmy Somerville, Altered Images and Average White Band, as well as the reformed original line-up of Five Star, Lightning Seeds, Marc Almond, Chesney Hawkes, Roland Gift and many more!

As in 2011, the organisers have announced that Rewind Scotland will once again take place at the historic setting of Scone Palace in Perthshire – the home of The Earls of Mansfield and the crowning palace of the Kings of Scotland.

The festival takes place on the weekend of the 20th-22nd July and, as well as the massive line-up of 80s artists, features loads of other festival fun from Silent Discos to Live Karaoke bars along with Camping and Glamping (Glamorous Camping) options.

click for hi res click for hi res click for hi res click for hi res Originally launched at Henley-on-Thames in 2009, Rewind The 80s Festival boasts the biggest line-up of 80s artists in the world, and in its first three years has featured such iconic 80s names as: Boy George, Tony Hadley, Rick Astley, Gloria Gaynor, Kim Wilde, ABC, Go West, Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw and many more.

2011 saw the first Rewind Festival take place north of the border and take Scotland by storm, and the festival in Henley-on-Thames sell out in advance for the very first time.

For an exclusive video preview of the artists, on Wednesday 18th January at 20:30, tune into "Fast Forward to Rewind Scotland" on Vintage TV (Sky 369 and Freesat 515).

Average White Band
AWB are regarded as one of the top funk and soul bands in the history of music. Best known for their timeless instrumental mega-hit "Pick up the Pieces" they’ve had a career full of several gold selling albums and Grammy nominations. "Cut the Cake" and the 1980 UK top 20 hit "Let’s Go Round Again" attracted wider audiences to their ‘authentic’ R&B sound. The current band line-up continues to record and tour around the world, to on-going critical and audience acclaim.

click for hi res Big Country
Internationally-renowned Scottish rockers Big Country will be making their Rewind Festival debut, headlining on 21st July in Perth this year, adding to another six major UK/Irish festival dates the band perform at this summer. Formed in Dunfermline, Fife in 1981, they enjoyed huge success in the 80s thanks to their unique brand of rock music and such massive hits as “In a Big Country” "Chance" and “Fields of Fire (400 Miles)” taken from their multi-platinum album 'The Crossing" produced by the legendary Steve Lillywhite. Sadly band founder member Stuart Adamson passed away in 2001. The band reformed in 2011 with a new line-up fronted by The Alarm’s Mike Peters and original members Bruce Watson, Tony Butler, Mark Brzezicki and Bruce’s son Jamie Watson. "The band are looking forward to this summer’s festivals, celebrating our 30th anniversary and recording new material" said Tony Butler. In recent months they have been in the studio with Steve Lillywhite once again, Youth and Bill Nelson working on a new album for release in 2013.
Jimmy Somerville
Glaswegian Jimmy Somerville first shot to fame back in 1984 with groundbreaking band Bronski Beat. Their debut single "Smalltown Boy" introduced the world to Jimmy’s unusual "falsetto squeal" (his own words), making the top three in Britain as well as being a huge hit all over Europe. Having had several lively pop dance hits in ’84 and ’85 with the band, Jimmy left for a rest after the pressures of new found fame took its toll. Within months he was back forming the Communards with his old friend Richard Coles and enjoyed a string of hits with their mixture of good old fashioned "gay" disco and more bluesy, acoustic, political and social comment songs, including a hedonistic cover version of the Philly soul classic "Don't Leave Me This Way".

click for hi res Five Star
Dubbed "Britain’s answer to the Jackson Five" with their dynamic sound and fabulous dance routines, Five Star rocked the British and US pop charts in the 80s. Named and managed by their father Buster Pearson, the band scored a total of 16 top 40 singles, 6 of which went top ten, and achieved a multi-platinum selling UK no.1 album in 1986 with "Silk & Steel". A formidable live act in the 80s, they sold out 6 nights at Wembley Arena to an audience of more than 60,000 in their 1987 UK tour. The five siblings make their Rewind Festival debut in 2012, celebrating their 25th anniversary in the music industry.
Chesney Hawkes
After shooting to fame as the title character in the film "‘Buddy’s Song" in 1990, Chesney Hawkes quickly became one of Britain’s best-loved stars. The following year, he released the single "The One and Only" (penned by Nik Kershaw) from the film’s soundtrack which went on to become the 20th biggest selling single of the 90s. Chesney has never been far from the spotlight since, with numerous TV appearances and new material, finding a whole new generation of fans who want to see him perform live.

click for hi res Go West
Celebrating 25 years together and as one of the greatest singer-songwriter duos to emerge in the eighties they had their first hit "We Close Our Eyes" in 1985, the first of many including "Tracks of My Tears", "Call Me" and the opening song to the hugely successful film "Pretty Woman", "King of Wishful Thinking". Fantastic performers with a huge repertoire of hits, Go West are a real treat live.
Right Said Fred
Brothers Richard and Fred Fairbrass are as recognisable now as they were back in 1992 when Right Said Fred became the first UK band since the Beatles to reach No.1 in the US with a debut single. That single – "I’m Too Sexy" – hit No.1 in thirty two countries and garnered an Ivor Novello Award before further hits like "Deeply Dippy" (another Ivor Novello) and "Stand Up For The Champions" contributed to the band’s overall haul of twenty million records worldwide.

click for hi res Midge Ure
One of Britain’s most prolific and well-respected songwriters, co-organiser of the Live Aid concerts and former member of such iconic groups as Visage and Thin Lizzy; Midge Ure is a man of many talents. True musical royalty, he received an OBE back in 2005 for services to music and charity. Midge achieved huge success in the 80s with the synthpop band Ultravox, with worldwide hits such as "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" and "Vienna", going on to have a successful solo career too. Having performed a reunion tour with Ultravox back in 2010, this summer he plays solo bringing his extraordinary back catalogue to Rewind.
Limahl
One might think of Limahl in the same bracket as Boy George, Phil Oakey or Margaret Thatcher as having one of the defining bouffants of the era! But, the original duo tone spiky mullet man was oh, so much more than his legendary hair and the wave of sometimes dodgy imitation haircuts he inspired; Kajagoogoo, the band he fronted, so much more than their crazy name and angular posturings. Music mattered with a million selling debut album "White Feathers" and five chart hits over two years: - "Too Shy"(no 1) – "Ooh To Be Ahh" (no 7) – "Hang On Now" (no 13) – "Only For Love" (no 16) and "The Neverending Story" (no 4).

Les McKeown's Legendary Bay City Rollers
When Les McKeown became lead singer of the Bay City Rollers just days after his 18th birthday, the addition of his voice and personality transformed the band from potential one hit wonders into an international super group, notching up nine UK top ten hits including two number ones. Their first two albums, "Rollin’’ and "Once Upon A Star", stayed on the album charts for a total of 99 weeks and "‘Bye Bye Baby", the Rollers’ first No. 1 single, was the UK's biggest selling single of 1975. Between 1974 and 1978 the Bay City Rollers achieved no 1s in pop charts across the world with such songs as "Saturday Night" and "I Only Want To Be With You". Adam Ant and The Good, The Mad & The Lovely Posse

click for hi res Roland Gift
At one time picked by People Magazine as one of their 50 most beautiful people, Roland Gift came to attention with the release of the first Fine Young Cannibals album. His high, soaring voice was immediately recognizable, his style being both on classic soul singers and modern techniques that provided him with an edge. It was with the second FYC album four years later, however, that the band began to break internationally, with "She Drives Me Crazy" being heard everywhere.
Lightning Seeds
Lightning Seeds were formed by Ian Broudie in 1989, after having been involved with numerous bands in post-punk Liverpool, including Big in Japan and Holly Johnson, he decided to go it alone. Lightning Seeds have been entertaining audiences for over 20 years, and it’s easy to see why when witnessing their unmissable live performance. Ian Broudie conceived the band and penned the majority of the critically acclaimed debut album Cloudcuckooland, featuring the hit single Pure. The band’s 1994 album, Jollification, saw the Lightning Seeds garner the attention they rightly deserved, spawning the hit singles Lucky You, Change, Perfect and Marvellous. In 2006 they released of The Very Best of the Lightning Seeds and in 2010 the band returned to the live arena with a full UK tour and studio album.

click for hi res Marc Almond

He first rose to fame in 1980 after forming Soft Cell, recording four albums and enjoying several Top 10 hits including the international classic and BRIT Award winning "Tainted Love". After Soft Cell went their separate ways in 1984, Marc went on to have a diverse and acclaimed solo career, continuing to tour and record new music to this day.
The Straits
Formed by former members of Dire Straits Alan Clark, Phil Palmer and Chris White, due to the substantial demand to hear the band’s much loved catalogue of great songs, The Straits includes three original members along with some of the top session players to form a great new combo. Terence Reis was handpicked as the front man for The Straits for his voice with elements of Mark Knopfler, JJ Cale and Steve Earle and his guitar technique that’s remarkably similar to Knopfler’s own. Listen out for such rock classics as "Sultans of Swing", "Money for Nothing" and "Brothers in Arms".

click for hi res ABC
Fronted by the dapper Martin Fry, their debut album The Lexicon of Love crashed straight into the charts at number one, showcasing a string of hits including "The Look of Love", "Tears Are Not Enough" and "Poison Arrow". After five further albums and a greatest hits, ABC bowed out of the spotlight in the early nineties, only to resurrect the name at the end of the decade much to the delight of their fans. Whether performing as a band or with an orchestra in the Albert Hall, Martin Fry is the consummate show man.
Wang Chung
Wang Chung came out of the post-punk, New Wave scene in the UK going on to achieve global success selling millions of records. Throughout their 30 year career they have released 5 albums and 2 Greatest Hits compilations. They have had 6 US Top 40 hits including a number 1 and international Top 40 hit, "Dance Hall Days", achieved cult status with their soundtrack for William Friedkin’s movie "To Live and Die in LA". In the process of all of this (and somewhat unintentionally), Wang Chung became part of the contemporary culture of North America. Their huge smash "Everybody Have Fun Tonight", with its now famous line "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight"' saw the invention of a new US verb; 'to Wang Chung', the band being name-checked by everyone from Homer Simpson to Frasier Crane.

B for Blues - THE DANA DIXON BAND

Fronted by the powerful singer/harmonica player Dana Dixon and featuring the outstanding Blues and Slide playing of guitarist Dave Dixon, the band play a mixture of authentic Texas & Chicago blues, tough R&B and superb original numbers. .. Since their formation and the launch of their critically acclaimed debut album "Boogie Woman", the band have garnered fantastic reviews from the British and overseas press for both their recorded work and excellent live act. .. Arguably one of the most exciting live acts in Britain today, the band have played at practically every major blues festival in Britain and Ireland, and perform in blues venues up and down the UK, Europe and USA. .. In the many reviews she has received, Dana has been likened to many of the blues greats - Koko Taylor, Big Mama Thornton, Maggie Bell and Janis Joplin - with much emphasis placed on her powerful vocals and harmonica skills. .. Dave Dixon, whose guitar playing "has to be seen to be believed", is an official endorsee of Gibson guitars (USA), and Rotosound strings (UK). .. Were Going Wrong - Jack Bruce

John Symon Asher "Jack" Bruce (born 14 May 1943) is a Scottish musician and songwriter, respected as a founding member of the British psychedelic rock power trio, Cream, for a solo career that spans several decades, and for his participation in several well-known musical ensembles. Best recognized as a memorable vocalist and bass guitarist, Bruce has been referred to as a "World-class pioneer in his main instrument; a composer of some of the most endurable and recognizable rock songs of our time; an accomplished classical, jazz and Latin musician and one of popular music's most distinctive and evocative voices." He is also trained as a classical cellist. The Sunday Times stated "... many consider him to be one of the greatest bass players of all time."
After leaving school, he toured Italy, playing double bass with the Murray Campbell Big Band. In 1962, Jack Bruce became a member of the London-based band Blues Incorporated, led by Alexis Korner, in which he played the double bass. The band also included organist Graham Bond, saxophonist Dick Heckstall-Smith and drummer Ginger Baker. In 1963, the group broke up and Bruce went on to form the Graham Bond Quartet with Bond, Baker, and guitarist John McLaughlin. They played an eclectic range of music genres, including, bebop, blues and rhythm and blues. As a result of session work at this time, Bruce switched from double bass to electric bass. The move to electric bass happened as McLaughlin was dropped from the band; he was replaced by Heckstall-Smith on sax and the band pursued a more concise R&B sound and changed its name to the Graham Bond Organization. They released two studio albums and several singles, but were not commercially successful. They did, however, influence a number of other musicians, such as Keith Emerson, Jon Lord and Bill Bruford. In 1960, Jack Bruce married his first wife at age seventeen. He failed to mention her name in interviews citing the short-lived nature of the union. One son was born but he was estranged from his father. In 1964, Jack Bruce married Janet Godfrey, his second wife. They had two children together and divorced in 1973.

During the time Bruce and Baker played with the Graham Bond Organization, they were known for their hostility towards each other. There were numerous stories of the two sabotaging each other's equipment and fighting on stage. Hostility grew so much between the two that Bruce was forced to leave the group in August 1965.

After he left, Bruce recorded a solo single, "I'm Gettin Tired", for Polydor Records. He joined John Mayall and his John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers group, which featured guitarist Eric Clapton. Although his stay was brief; the Universal Deluxe double album Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton contains all the known tracks featuring Bruce.

After the Bluesbreakers, Bruce tasted his first commercial success as a member of Manfred Mann in 1966, including "Pretty Flamingo" which reached number one in the UK singles chart (the only number one record of his career) as well as the freewheeling and ground-breaking jazz-rock of Instrumental Asylum. When interviewed on the episode of the VH1 show, Classic Albums, which featured Disraeli Gears, Mayall stated that Bruce had been lured away by the lucrative commercial success of Manfred Mann while Mann himself recalled that Bruce attended recording sessions without having rehearsed but played songs straight through without error, opining that perhaps the chord changes seemed obvious to Bruce. The complete Manfred Mann recordings with Jack Bruce are available on the 4-CD EMI box set Down the Road Apiece.

Whilst with Manfred Mann, Bruce again collaborated with Eric Clapton as a member of Powerhouse, which also featured Spencer Davis Groups's vocalist credited as Steve Anglo. The 3 tracks were featured on the Elektra sampler album What's Shakin'. Two of the songs, "Crossroads" and "Steppin' Out", were to become staples in the live set of his next band.

Hurdy Gurdy Man - Donovan

No, I really don't consider Donovan when I think of blues, but then again, Jeff beck was featured on an early album and the Allman Brothers thought enough of his stuff to do a 2 sided jam of his Mountain song.
Donovan (born Donovan Philips Leitch, 10 May 1946) is a Scottish singer, songwriter and guitarist. Initially labelled as an imitator of Bob Dylan, Donovan quickly developed an eclectic and distinctive style that blended folk, jazz, pop, psychedelia, and world music (notably calypso). He has variously lived in Scotland, London, California and Ireland, and currently lives with his family in County Cork in Ireland.

Emerging from the British folk scene, Donovan shot to fame in the United Kingdom in early 1965 with a series of live performances on the pop TV series, Ready Steady Go!. Initially signing with the British label Pye Records in 1965, he recorded a handful of singles and two albums in the folk music vein, but after signing a new contract with the US label Epic Records his popularity rapidly spread to the US and other countries. After extricating himself from his original management contract, he began a long and successful collaboration with Mickie Most, one of the leading British independent record producers of the era, scoring a string of hits in the UK, the US, Australia and other countries. His successful records in the 1960s included the UK hits "Catch the Wind" and "Colours" in 1965, while "Sunshine Superman" topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart the following year, and reached #2 in Britain. Donovan was the first artist to be signed to CBS/Epic Records by then-new Administrative Vice President Clive Davis, who later became head of the CBS Record empire.

Donovan and Most collaborated on a series of hit albums and singles between 1965 and 1970. He became a friend of leading pop musicians including Joan Baez, Brian Jones, and The Beatles. He taught John Lennon a finger-picking guitar style in 1968. Donovan's commercial fortunes waned after he parted ways with Mickie Most in 1969, and he left the music industry for a time.

He continued to perform and record sporadically in the 1970s and 1980s, but gradually fell from favour. His gentle musical style and hippie image was scorned by critics, especially after the advent of punk rock. Donovan withdrew from performing and recording several times during his career, but he underwent a revival in the 1990s with the emergence of the rave scene in Britain. Late in the decade, he recorded the 1996 album Sutras with producer and long-time fan Rick Rubin and in 2004 released a new album, Beat Cafe. Donovan was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.

His music loves range from Junior Kimburgh, The Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, Peter Green, Jimi Hendrix to North Mississippi Allstars. Previously with Mulehog, he, too, has played to credible-sized audiences, ripping up such well-known Glasgow venues as King Tut's, ABC2, and Ivory Blacks.

John Murphy - Drums

John's tools of the trade are a Pearl Export Drumkit & Paiste cymbals played with Vic Firth drumsticks. His musical influences range from The Black Crowes, Humble Pie, The Black Keys, RL Burnside, The Stone Roses to AC/DC. Prior to Dixie Fried, Murphy was a recording artist with much-loved alt-country outfit, The Scuffers, a regular performer at prestigious live music venues such as The Barrowlands, ABC, King Tut's, The Garage etc.

We are a couple of good mates, who have very similiar taste in good music. We have played in several different local bands over the last 10 years or so, but after just getting together every weekend for around a year getting very drunk and having a jam, we figured why the hell not let people hear our sound. To our complete surprise we found an audience of like minded people who also enjoy our take on good music. We play our take on the blues as good as 2 white guys from Scotland can.

We play deep down and dirty Mississippi Blues Rock, is our best description. Released our first EP on Big Rock Candy Records summer 2010. Album released 3rd July 2011.

Good Friend Blues - Dave Arcari

"Dave plays like he got his skin turned inside out and pretty soon my skin was inside out too listening and it was all good. That boy bleeds for you – he a real down deep player and a soul man..." SEASICK STEVE

SLIDE guitarist & songwriter Dave Arcari’s alt.blues sounds owe as much to trash country, punk and rockabilly as they do pre-war Delta blues and have been showcased via six internationally-acclaimed solo CD releases. His latest album – Devil’s Left Hand – was released on Buzz Records on 1 November 2010.

In 2010 Arcari added two hugely successful shows at the legendary Glastonbury Festival to his impressive list of festival appearances which includes BluesAlive (Czech Republic & Poland shows), The Great British R&B Festival, Peer Festival (Belgium). He has also played industry showcases at the North by North East (NxNE) music festival in Toronto, Canada and he was a finalist the UK Indy Music Awards reaching the top four in his category (best male solo artist).

With more than 100 UK dates a year plus regular shows in Finland, Estonia, France, Germany, Belgium, Poland and Canada, Arcari is one of the hardest gigging live artists on the circuit.

A series of shows with folks including Steve Earle, Alabama 3, Seasick Steve and Jon Spencer along with his relentless UK and European tour schedule have established Arcari as a formidable international solo performer who is fast building a media reputation as a 'hell-raising National guitar madman'.

Amos Moses - Sensational Alex Harvey Band

Alex Harvey (5 February 1935 – 4 February 1982) was a Scottish rock musician. With The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, he built a reputation as an exciting live performer during the 1970s glam rock era
Harvey was born in 1935 in the Kinning Park district of Glasgow, Scotland, a working-class neighborhood, where he spent his childhood and youth.[2] By his own account, he worked in a number of jobs, from carpentry to waiting tables at a restaurant to carving tombstones, before finding success in music. He first began performing in skiffle groups in 1954.

His musical roots were in Dixieland jazz and skiffle music, which enjoyed considerable popularity in England and Scotland during the late 1950s. From 1958-1965, he was the leader of Alex Harvey's Big Soul Band, playing blues and rock and roll songs and spending considerable time touring in the United Kingdom and Germany. He also won a competition that sought "Scotland's answer to Tommy Steele." Harvey became strongly identified with British rhythm and blues music, although he was equally able to play rock songs.

After leaving the Big Soul Band, he briefly tried for a solo career but with little success. By 1967, he found a positive direction for his career when he became a member of the pit band in the London stage production of the musical Hair. This band recorded the live album Hair Rave Up, which contained Harvey originals and other songs not from the stage show. In 1970 Harvey formed Rock Workshop with Ray Russell; their first, self-titled album contained an early version of "Hole In Her Stocking", later to appear on Framed. Harvey remained with Hair for five years.

Harvey was also instrumental in the formation of the band Stone the Crows by introducing his younger brother, Leslie Harvey, to singer Maggie Bell. Tragically, Les Harvey was electrocuted in a freak accident while performing with the band in 1972.

Rose's Home - Big George & The Business

George Ross Watt (Big George) was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1958 and brought up in the slums which housed the shipyard and engineering workers. It was a beginning that gave him a lust for life and made him uncompromising on the music he loved and composed, and as the years have rolled on has shown that he has a god given talent to write and entertain.

After playing in the typical local band circuit for many years, he was hired by one of his all time heroes, James Dewar. James Dewar was another Scot with a god given talent of performance and musical ability and played with such bands as "Stone the Crows" and the "Robin Trower band". Unfortunately after four years the partnership came to an end, when James Dewar was forced to retire through ill health. When this situation arose Big George knew the time was ripe to form his own band and as a consequence of these events, we now have "Big George and the Business".

In the initial stages Big George tried a number of different formats and local musicians until he found himself with a three piece band. He was joined by Greg Orr on Drums and Tam McLucas (Shifty) on Bass, Shifty also took over the management of the band and his organisational skills propelled the band onto the next level. This version was rapidly acclaimed for their raw, gutsy, uncompromising style of Blues, and it was only a short time before they were nationally recognised. Releasing their first album " The Alleged Album" only further enhanced their growing reputation for a rockin' style of Blues, which no other UK band could match.

With a good management structure and the release of the Alleged album the band hit the touring circuit traveling extensively throughout the UK, Europe and Scandinavia. When time permitted the band eventually managed to return home long enough to write and record their second album, "All Fools' Day". By this time their reputation had spread across the Atlantic and they were invited to appear in the Montreal Jazz festival, hard rock cafe, Theatre St Denis and other venues in Quebec and Ontario in 1992. Since those days the band have made frequent returns to Canada and America and have graced many a stage with the likes of Buddy Guy, Larry Davis, John Campbell, Bo Diddley, Mick Taylor, to drop only a few names.

While in Canada in the late 1990's the band recorded half of their next album, "Home of the Wolf", in Montreal. The title track of which was inspired by Big George being made an honourary member of the Mohawk nation following a gig at the Kahnawake reservation. While the first album was gutsy and raw and the second saw the band expanding with piano and other instruments, the Home of the Wolf album explodes with the potential shown in the first two. It has now shown George graduating from an accomplished guitarist to one of the finest guitarists, singers, writers and Producers that was ever to grace a stage in the world of the Blues. In addition to his work in the Blues world he has also worked widely in the world of television penning and performing for many highly acclaimed UK television programmes.

In recent years in between touring George also involves himself with the local community, in the teaching of many kids in music and in particular guitar tuition. He has also now produced and recorded a large number of young up and coming bands from all over Scotland in his custom built studio. His patience and diligence in this field has earned him great praise from the local community in which he lives.

With smokey tones that would make Joe Cocker jealous and a style of guitar playing that would have had Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan nodding in approval, Big George is an unforgettable performer who has thrilled crowds all over the world for several years. Wherever this band travel, they take no prisoners and leave no one in any doubt.............that they are...........The Business.

The Band members are:-

George Ross Watt (Big George) on Guitar and Vocals.
Tam McLucas (Shifty) on Bass.
Greg Orr (Orbit) on Drums.
Tommy McIntyre (Fingers) on Piano & Keyboards.

Poor Boy - Rev Doc and The Congregation

We are blessed with a plethora of excellent blues bands in the UK, which boast an impressive array of talented musicians. However, among that treasured collection there is only a handful that transcend their intrinsic ability to deliver a complete package of entertainment. Rev Doc and the Congregation are significant members of that esoteric category and they have been absent from the frontline for far too long. Refreshed and re-energised, they are now back with a vengeance.

The sublime guitarist Al Brown, backed by the exceptional rhythm section of Davy Boyle on drums and Alan Thompson on bass guitar, opened the proceedings with a lively instrumental before setting the scene with the introduction of a slow blues for the strolling entrance of Rev Doc. A couple of Little Walter numbers provided the vehicle for some terrific harp work from the Doc, followed by the shuffling “The Blues Is Killing Me” and “Running Down The Road”. John Lee Hooker’s “No Shoes” inspired a wonderfully lyrical guitar solo, beautifully underpinned by the rhythm section, and an extended harp solo delivered on walkabout amid the tightly-packed audience. “Don’t You Fool With Me, Baby” was blessed with another dose of Brown magic, while “Must’ve Been The Devil” rocked along to great effect. The Doc then ended the first set with one of his much-loved party pieces, a fabulous rendition of “Parchman Farm”

The slow and moody “Somebody’s Knocking” set the second session in motion in advance of fine versions of a couple of old favourites – “Bright Lights, Big City” and “Matchbox”, the latter enhanced by excellent bass and drum lines as the Doc joined the dancers with impromptu gyrations. Al Brown added a blistering guitar solo to James Cotton’s “Straighten Up, Baby” before the slow blues, “Black Friday Blues”, led into a tremendous delivery of Billy Boy Arnold’s “Rockinitis”. After a calming shuffle, Rev Doc blew everyone away with scintillating virtuosity on a solo performance of “Gypsy Wind”, handing over to Al Brown for an equally enthralling Freddy King instrumental while he got his breath back. The blissful evening was rounded off with “Boneyard Man” and another John Lee Hooker composition by way of an encore. The explosive response from the crowd underlined their delight at the resurrection of Rev Doc and The Congregation. Amen to that.
