I started a quest to find terrific blues music and incredible musicianship when I was just a little kid. I also have a tremendous appreciation of fine musical instruments and equipment. One of my greatest joys all of my life was sharing my finds with my friends. I'm now publishing my journey. I hope that you come along!

Tasha Taylor Sings Sweet For Her Fans - CD OUT 3/18

Tasha Taylor Sings Sweet For Her Fans
Honey For The Biscuit Is Soul-Bearing
Out March 18
Daughter of Stax Legend Johnnie Taylor
Carries Family Tradition Proudly
“This record has a lot of relationship heartache, missteps, and some confusion. I think it’s about searching for something via someone.”- Tasha Taylor

Ruf Records recording artist Tasha Taylor has always carried the torch for Soul and Blues. Now, with her dazzling third album, Honey For The Biscuit, set for an March 18 release, the US singer/songwriter/musician unveils thirteen new songs that push her beloved genre into the spotlight. “I’m carrying on the next generation of rhythm, blues, and soul,” says Tasha. “Bridging the gap between one generation and another; it’s my family business – as well as my passion.”
As the daughter of R&B trailblazer and Stax giant Johnnie Taylor, Tasha’s genealogy is auspicious. And yet, while lesser talents might trade on that hallowed surname, Honey For The Biscuit is a personal statement bearing her unique thumbprint. “I started writing this record three years ago,” recalls the singer/producer, “and I wrote most of the songs on my guitar.
Recorded in LA, Tasha was joined in the studio by a core all-star band. Tasha (Vocals, guitar, percussion), Nathan Watts (bass), John Notto (guitar), Jon Taylor (guitar), Don Wyatt (piano/organ), Munjungo Jackson (percussion) with the following on drums; Gerry Brown, Ronald Bruner, and Stanley Randolph. Then to round it out, a full brass section with Jamelle Williams, Matthew DeMeritt, and Lemar Buillary to make Honey For The Biscuit a thrilling reboot of the great American genres, taking in the soul, funk and every shade of blue.
“I always bring a soul element,” notes Tasha, “and this record also has a touch of Nashville, which was a new thing for me to explore. Three songs were written with Tom Hambridge and Richard Flemming, (“Leave Dog Alone,” “How Long” and “Weatherman”) and overall this record has more of my blues side exposed, from subject matter to musicianship. It also inspires some dancing, so be ready for that!”
Special songs dovetail with special guests. There are the light-footed guitar lick and gang chants of “Family Tree” (featuring Keb’ Mo’). The handclaps and doo-wop refrain of Little Miss Suzie (Robert Randolph guesting on lap steel). The full-throttle, funky ode to a cheating man on “Leave That Dog Alone” (Samantha Fish supplying fiery guitar/vocals). The brassy belt of “Same Old Thing” (Tommy Castro at the microphone) makes Tasha smile, “I got very lucky and got some great friends to play, nice honey for my record.”
Even amongst that blues royalty, it’s Tasha’s neck-tingling vocal that demands top billing, her raw delivery digging to the emotional depths. The lyric sheet, meanwhile, opens up her diary from a period of upheaval. “It’s been nice looking back on what is essentially a snapshot of my life,” she admits, “and realizing what you can learn from your experiences. There’s a lot of testimonials about dealing with and searching for stuff, about love, lust, and life. I think I’ve come through a lot of stuff when I hear this record, and I’m glad to have those lessons in my pocket.”
It’d take more than a broken heart to break her stride. Flick through her backstory and it’s clear that Tasha hasn’t just inherited her father’s talent, but also his tireless work ethic. Though raised in Dallas, Texas, her de facto childhood home was the tour bus. “I didn’t have a lot in common with other kids’ family lives,” she reflects. “On the road, that’s where I grew up. It was a very different job for one’s dad to have, but I learned the most from watching him on stage from the wings.”
For a period, Tasha seemed bound to a different road, as she moved north to study drama at Boston University, before taking featured roles in hit TV shows including “Ugly Betty” and “House”. It’s a parallel career that continues to thrive, but the music in her DNA could not be denied, so Tasha went on to compose original soundtracks for shows like “Men In Trees” and “Lipstick Jungle”, before making ripples with her solo debut, 2008’s Revival.
Three years later, that album was followed up by Taylormade: a whip-smart set of Tasha’s self-penned material that tipped its hat to her late father with a spring-heeled cover of “Who’s Makin’ Love.”
“He was an inspiration and a special talent,” she reflects. “I remember being on the road with my dad and if I was worn-out or sick, he’d say, ‘You don’t have to sing if you don’t feel good – or you can be a trouper.' I guess I always choose to be a trouper.” True to Taylor Snr’s advice and example, Tasha has earned an international reputation for high-velocity shows that leave it all on the stage and lift her audiences above their troubles. “It’s very high-energy and deep emotion,” she explains. “Onstage, I feel the soul of the music, and I put my everything into my performances because of that. I love to see the audience connecting to the emotion of the music.”  In 2016, Tasha hits stages across Europe and America armed with Honey For The Biscuit: the third breakout record that realizes her potential spreads the word about the genre she has always championed and carries that magical surname into a bold new age. “If one person leaves with a new favorite song,” she considers, “then I’m happy…”

BONAMASSA EVOLVES AS BLUES-ROCK MUSICIAN WITH NEW ALBUM “BLUES OF DESPERATION”

RELEASED WORLDWIDE ON
FRIDAY 25th MARCH 2016
GRAMMY-nominated blues-rock guitar icon Joe Bonamassa announces today that his brand new studio solo album, Blues Of Desperation (Provogue), will be released 25th March 2016.
Like his previous solo disc, 2014’s Top 10 Billboard hit Different Shades of Blue, the new album features all-original material, and it sees the maverick superstar guitarist, singer and songwriter tossing away the rule book as he continues to reinvent and redefine the blues-rock genre like no other artist working today.

“I want people to hear my evolution as a blues-rock musician,” says Bonamassa, “somebody who isn’t resting on accomplishments and who is always pushing forward and thinking about how music can evolve and stay relevant.”
The writing sessions for Blues Of Desperation took Bonamassa back to Nashville, where he’d composed Different Shades of Blue, to work with some of Music City’s top tunesmiths, people like James House, Tom Hambridge, Jeffrey Steele, Jerry Flowers and Gary Nicholson.
“These are some of the best guys in the business,” Bonamassa raves. "Lyrically, you’ll hear the proverbial trains, mountains, valleys and other blues references about heartbreak and loneliness, but there are also some poignant moments about getting away from the stressful, crazy demands of life and losing yourself with your special someone. I think anybody will be able to relate.”
Bonamassa and his long-time producer Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Journey) convened at Nashville’s Grand Victor Sound Studios (formerly known as RCA Studio A), and during an intense, five-day period they recorded 11 galvanizing songs with a crack group of musicians including drummers Anton Fig and Greg Morrow, bassist Michael Rhodes, keyboardist Reese Wynans, horn players Lee Thornburg, Paulie Cerra and Mark Douthit, and background singers Mahalia Barnes, Jade McRae and Juanita Tippins.

Of his decade-long collaboration with Shirley, Bonamassa says, “I can explain our relationship with one word – ‘trust.’ I completely trust in Kevin and his musical promptings. He pushes my musical ability by challenging me to not just rest on my laurels or settle for ‘good.’ He expects more out of the other musicians as well and will not hold back when he sees us falling back into our usual routine.”
“Which sometimes calls for unorthodox measures”, says Shirley, who admits that his idea of augmenting Bonamassa’s usual recording band with second drummer Morrow was engineered to “ruffle Joe’s feathers.” “I wanted him to work a little harder, like in his early years,” he says, “so I brought in an additional drummer, just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons.” Of the results, Shirley raves, “Recording Blues Of Desperation is one of the most exciting recording projects I've done. What a joyful noise we made!”

Blues of Desperation is Bonamassa’s most powerfully diverse and boldly realized album yet, with the material ranging from the gutsy, gritty blues call to arms of This Train (Joe’s guitar is set to “rude” throughout) to the elegant yet emotionally shattering ballad What I’ve Known For A Very Long Time to the soul-nourishing, acoustic-based Americana of The Valley Runs Low, on which Bonamassa’s voice rises up majestically to meet Barnes, McRae and Tippins in gospel-like rapture. And then there’s the bleary, tequila-soaked Drive, dripping with the kind of raw, wicked and unsettling sensuality that could make David Lynch go green with envy.

About Vicksburg Call

For over two decades David Gogo has been recording and performing all over the world, bringing his magnetic and accessible groove-fueled blend of blues and rock to audiences of all ages.  The British Columbia based guitarist and vocalist's name has become synonymous with the Canadian blues scene, and with good reason.  Vicksburg Call (September 4) is Gogo’s 14th release and is poised to add even more acclaim to an already impressive inventory.  He’s earned numerous accolades, including five JUNO nominations and multiple Maple Blues Awards.  He has thousands of tour miles under his belt and has played on stage with B.B. King, Johnny Winter, Bo Diddley and Otis Rush as well as opened for ZZ Top, Buddy Guy, Charles Bradley and many others.

Undoubtedly a rockin’ blues album, Vicksburg Call was recorded in a studio with a live, intimate atmosphere, which yielded an overall grittier sound with lots of feeling.  "I wanted this album to have more of a “band” feel to it, rather than just going into the studio and basically dictating the parts to the musicians", says Gogo.  "I also wanted as many songs as possible to have a very live feel and be easily transferrable to the stage."

With the help of his backing band consisting of Bill Hicks on drums and Jay Stevens on bass, each of the tracks on Vicksburg Call are replete with the grooves, emotion and soulful delivery that David Gogo is known for. From the opening rocker “Cuts Me To The Bone”, the  bluesy “Fooling Myself”, featuring Kim Simmonds and the haunting “There’s A Hole”  with a guest appearance from Shawn Hall of The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer.  Vicksburg Call also highlights Gogo’s aptitude for selecting cover songs that one would not expect to hear on a blues album including Neil Young’s “The Loner”, Stephen Stills’ “Jet Set (Sigh)”, and Annie Lennox’s “Why”.

“In the time that has passed since the last album, there has been a lot of loss in my life with the passing of friends and colleagues in the world of music. There were many sad days, but also tears of joy when I think back at fond memories from my time on the road”, Gogo recalls. “Relationships can also have their ups and downs as the years pass by, and many of my new songs deal with this. I tried to write from many viewpoints of love and loss, reconciliation, regret, acceptance and hope for new horizons.”

Gogo’s passion for blues and his extraordinary, virtuosic guitar talents are laid bare alongside his emotions on this album - a combination that grabs you from the opening bars and keeps you hooked through all 10 tracks.
